  1. Hi and welcome to ExTS If you have AVG and McAfee on your system this could be causing the behaviour you describe. If you do have 2 AVs - take McAfee off and see if this makes a difference.
  2. Thanks for the feedback - good to hear that all is as it should be :)
  3. Hi Just sticking my nose in ....... Start > Run ....type in .......devmgmt.msc ..............ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters What is listed ? Are there any yellow exclamation marks ?
  4. Look at the attachment below - Are LEDs #2 #4 and #5 lit and Green ? ====================================== Click on the icon to access the internet. In the address bar where http:// www. ------ is normally found delete everything there and type in 192.168.2.1 This should take you to the router software. If you have not set a password try leaving this blank. You should see "Firewall" if you have a look around and if you click on this "Mac Address Filtering" should be there. This needs to be "disabled". If you change a setting click OK to apply.
  5. The Recuva software would not do this anyway - it is used for recovering files / photos etc. Have you tried searching for "Adobe" or "Photo Delux" in Start > Search ......All Files and Folders ?
  6. I still think you should report the seller to eBay - he will carry on selling useless stuff if somebody doesn't stop him.
  7. Confirmed earlier by the results of ping 127.0.0.1 Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Do you know if Mac Address Filtering has been enabled in the Router Software ? Your Network Adapter cannot communicate with the Router and this could be a cause.
  8. At $70 this is half price ( I found it for $140 on Amazon ) Also found this review http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=147&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=9 It is a good card. You just need to be aware that it is not new - and probably comes with no guarantee at all.
  9. Hi and welcome to ExTS Was this a recovery disk? If so - the machine would have been taken back to factory settings ........all installed software / files / photos removed. Is this the case? As Janeygee says - Recuva is a very good ( free ) piece of software. However, there are one or two things you need to be aware of 1. If your photos have been erased - the more you use your computer the less likely is the possibility that you will be able to get them back. ( basically, the sectors on the disk where they are get overwritten ) 2. You cannot install Recuva on the same partition ( presumably C: ) from where you are trying to recover the photos. You would probably need to take the hard drive out and attach it to another computer. Recuva would be installed on this other computer You can get Recuva from here: click here
  10. I tried to explain earlier - our security guys don't need Norton or any other Antivirus software to help you. You are only prolonging the procedure. If you can get an internet connection then d/l the software that you were directed to and post the logs here. Only then can they advise you how to clean up your machine.
  11. You may be interested in this link click here
  12. According to your system specs - you have one PCIe x 16 slot. This is what you would need for your new Video Card. Depending on what you select - you will probably need a new Power Supply Unit too as you only have a 375Watt as J-B has pointed out. You would need to select the Video Card first then make sure that you have a PSU that can supply it with enough power. Your choice of card will be limited by what you want to spend.
  13. Hi martyboy and welcome to ExTS This is one for the experts. Starbuck or etavares should be online soon to advise. J-B has left a message for them to take a look at your problem. Please be patient - one of them will get to you soon. ================ Did you select Safe Mode with Networking ............this should give you internet access :) The MBAM and OTL logs are usually the starting point if you can d/l the software and post the logs.
  14. This may help too click here
  15. Hi, You need to address this problem first. On the taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click Internet Explorer and then click Add/Remove. In the Internet Explorer dialog box, click Repair Internet Explorer, then click OK, and then click Yes to confirm the repair. Click Yes to restart the computer. Also try .. Start > Run ....type in ....sfc /scannow .............ENTER
  16. As J-B says ............report the guy to EBay and also give his details to AVG If you are looking for free AV software you could also give MS Essentials a try. ( Not both together ) Both Starbuck and I use this. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials
  17. What about this? Can you see anything in the background ? Your video is a chip on the motherboard and not a replaceable card. However - if you are getting graphics on the external monitor this would appear to be OK. I think we are looking at a backlight / invertor problem or a problem with the connection to the screen.
  18. Start > Run ....type in ....winver ....ENTER Which Service Pack do you have ? SP2 / SP3 ? Take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329632 A FixIt box should pop up - try running this. If you need to upgrade the Service Pack ( XP is on SP3 now ) this may correct the USB Problem.
  19. We cannot speculate ................ Post the MBAM log If this shows anything then etavares will advise further.
  20. OK - I am off to bed now ..............nearly 1-00 AM in UK :)
  21. Before one of our security experts comes along I have one or two questions: 1. How do you know you have a trojan ? 2. If you think you have malware on your system then DO NOT use that particular computer for internet banking or any similar transactions. 3. If you suspect that you DO have a trojan then contact your banks / card companies etc. and explain to them and ask their assistance. Change your passwords at the very least. 4. Download MBAM from here; [ click on Products ....scroll down ....you want the free version] [ You may get redirected to a mirror site ...this is OK ] http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_pro Install > Update > Run it It will produce a log in Notepad - copy this and post it here. One of our security experts will advise further.
  22. Hi This, presumably, is because you have not installed the chipset / video drivers. Can you access the internet ? What is the make and model number of the computer and / or motherboard ?
  23. Suggest that you buy a PCI Network Card ( not expensive ) - put it into the slot - switch on .............let Windows find new hardware and when asked - insert the installation CD. I suspect that you have a problem with the on-board NIC.
  24. With just the laptop screen ( no external monitor ) if you look closely - is the graphics there .....but very faint ? Plug in the external monitor. ( assuming that this is OK ) Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc .......ENTER Click the + next to display adapters What is listed ? Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
  25. If you have a laptop that is connecting to the internet on both floors ( wirelessly ) then the problem does not lie with the router. This is a last resort: Download WinSock Fix from here: ( make a note of the download location ) http://www.snapfiles.com/php/sfdwnld.php?id=107303&a=7120710&loc=2 You will need to put it on a memory stick and transfer it to your desktop. Run the fix and try the connection again.
