  1. Hi Jim The shorting out [ initial post ] could have taken out your motherboard. OR - the new Power supply could be dead. Do you have a volt-meter to test the output of the new power supply ?
  2. Hi Jim - sorry to hear that you and SHMBO have been having health problems. I wish you both a speedy recovery.
  3. If you have all new fibre cables - a new master socket - and a new router this seems to indicate that the fault lies with the supplier. I assume that you are going to show the attached results to the engineer when he shows up?
  4. Hi, When I had fibre fitted I had similar problems to you. Speeds down to what I had pre-fibre. The solution was found when the engineer replaced the master socket. He explained that it wasn't designed for Fibre and should have been replaced on the change over. It is worth asking if you still have the same socket fitted.
  5. Thanks for the extra info Jimmy - glad that you got it sorted. :)
  6. Hi Heidi, and welcome to ExTS What is the exact Model Number of your P-Bell machine please? If you press F12 - what options are you given ? Do you have a "Recovery CD" ?
  7. Jim, I will leave you in Rusty's capable hands as I am off on holiday for a few weeks :)
  8. Hi zippy, Can't you simply plug the USB stick into your computer then using the burning software - drag and drop the recording that you want and burn it to CD ? Or am I not reading this correctly ?
  9. Hi Jim, I don't have a favourite place to buy from - in fact it is some time since I bought my last machine. It sounds as if you are looking at buying a re-furbished one. If you are looking at eBay then be careful who you use. Look at their % and anything below, say, 95% I wouldn't bother. Also check out the country of origin. Amazon is now simply a market place. You could set yourself up as a company and sell there. So again, be careful if you intend buying from them. Remember not all reviews are genuine. Google is a great source of information.
  10. Hi, If it has happened twice then DO NOT attempt to use this machine. There is obviously a serious fault which would need to be looked at by a qualified tech / electrician. Please DO NOT attempt to repair this yourself. You could replace the PSU - which is most probably the cause - but DO NOT attempt to open up the PSU.
  11. Thanks for getting back to us. Happy to hear that you are up and running again.
  12. Hi zippy, Can't you video your slide show then upload the video ?
  13. Hi again, Good to hear that your monitor is now behaving itself. I assume that you still cannot use an ethernet cable but wireless is OK ? Go back to Device Manager. Make an exact note of the device listed for your ethernet connection. We may need this later. Now right click on it > Update driver. [ you will need to be connected to the internet ] If still no good - Device Manager again > right click the device > Uninstall Re-boot the machine. Windows should find "New hardware" and re-install the drivers. Try the ethernet cable again. *** What is the exact make and model of your machine please? ***
  14. Hi Mokies, Please confirm that this is a Win7 machine. When you hit F8 there should be an option to boot using "Last Known Good Configuration" - give this a try.
  15. Another computer gremlin ! Happy to hear that things are back to normal :)
  16. Hi, Go back to Device Manager Click the > next to "Display Adapters" Right Click on the NVidia then click on "Update Drivers" If this doesn't do it for you - go to the NVidia site and download the drivers from there.
  17. Hi bj, Please don't use System Restore - if you have malware on your system you will not get rid of it by this method. Also - regarding IP Addresses - I wouldn't worry about a changing IP Address too much. Many ISPs use dynamic addresses - in other words if you shut down your computer over night or for a long period, you will probably find that you are allocated a new IP Address when you log in again. I looked up a couple of your IP Addresses and they indicate Sky as your ISP. Is this correct? Please wait for a response from one of our security experts before you try anything else.
  18. Hi, What was the Operating System on the problem laptop ? What is the Operating System on the disk that you have installed ? If these are different then there may well be a problem simply swapping in a new hard drive. When you install an Operating System the hardware [ motherboard etc ] are recognised by the installation. If this changes [ as you have done ] then this often results in problems - even if the Operating Systems are the same. Also - if the Operating System is OEM then this is a one off installation and is "tied" to the original machine. Couldn't you swap the RAM over - or are the specs different ?
  19. Hi Pete and welcome to ExTS :)
  20. Just to confirm what Bob [AWS] has said: You have 4 IP Addresses recorded here - 3 from the UK and the most recent [ yesterday ] from France - the one shown in your image.
  21. I can't imagine the sadness that you are feeling at the moment Bob. Hopefully those close to you will be of some comfort. Time, as they say, is a great healer.
  22. Glad to hear you have, at least, partially fixed your problem.

Is it ? Do you still need to login ? Go to the Search box [bottom left of screen] and type in ..... services ...hit Enter Scroll down to "Microsoft Account Sign in Assistant" Is this service started ?
