  1. Good to hear that you have resolved your problem. I we can help in the future - you know where we are.
  2. Hi, Echolife HG 520b This is a cheap router supplied by TalkTalk. I had a similar one that kept dropping the connection - I replaced the router. If you have had this router a while I would be tempted to replace it. You could always contact TalkTalk and ask them if it would be possible to replace it. The setup info is here: http://help.talktalk.co.uk/app/answers/detail/a_id/1607/~/wired-connection-setup-for-huawei-echolife-hg520b The router IP Address is 192.168.1.1 From your ping details - you could not ping the router at all when the connection was down. ============ I suspect you may need to replace the router - but try the following when there is no connection...... ping 127.0.0.1 This will confirm if the TCP/IP is OK. This should complete even if there is no connection. ============ Another possibility is the wireless adapter - but an intermittent fault is rare.
  3. Hi, If this was a McAfee or similar suite of programs ( AntiVirus etc ) then I will not say that you have wasted money but there are lots of free AV and anti-malware software available. This could be malware related ( or not :) ) Download MBAM from here: [ click on Products > you want the free version ] click here [You may get re-directed to a mirror site - this is OK ] Install > Update > Run It will produce a log in Notepad Copy this and post it here. ============= I don't understand this. Can you explain in a bit more detail please ?
  4. Hi and welcome to ExTS I am sure somebody here will be able to offer advice re. your laptop. There are some here who can empathise with this statement. :)
  5. Hi again, If you are considering dual booting Win7 and XP then I suggest that you scrap the problem OS. You can then install Win7 first. From here it is easy to create a second partition for XP. ( to do this with XP installed first is more awkward as you need software to create the partition ) If you want to go down this route there is a good tutorial here: click here You need to have installed Win7 first. There is a problem here too. You need to be sure that your system is Win7 compatible - and a 6 year old system may not be. ================= Have you considered re-installing the OS ( not a repair install ) ?
  6. Yes - I think the mounting holes are in the same place.
  7. I wrote a rather long tutorial on this very subject. Take a look here: http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=372
  8. It's Ken Do you have your router set up exactly as the image below? In particular - Connection #2 This may not be connected directly to a wall socket as shown but may be connected to a splitter or extension cable. At this point there should be a filter. User manual is here: click here Are the "Power" and "LAN" LEDs lit ?
  9. This last question is being addressed here: http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/13132-keyboard-driver
  10. Hi and welcome to ExTS Belkin G Wireless Modem Router Could you let us know the model number of this please ? If you have a wireless modem router you don't need an extra modem. Have you got filters on all equipment that is connected to the phone network ? Are you trying to connect by cable or wireless ? [ 3 questions ]
  11. Hi and welcome to ExTS Radeon 9550 From what I can find - this is an AGP card. see here This indicates an old motherboard and you do not to have a PCIe x 16 slot that newer cards would require. see here I don't think you are going to be able to upgrade this system to play modern games.
  12. What type of mouse are you using? If it is USB is there an option to try a PS2 ( round connection ) ? Assuming USB Mouse ......have you tried any other USB device and if so ....is it working ?
  13. You can ask the Post Office for a copy receipt. They do this at no charge. Enclose the copy receipt and they may reimburse you the postage. Keep us informed of the progress + let us know when you are up and running again :)
  14. Hi What makes you say this? Can you give us some specific details ?
  15. Hi, Welcome to ExTS Switch on and tap F8 constantly about once per second. Select "Last known good configuration" from the list of options. Let us know how you get on with this.
  16. They should provide a replacement. As Nev says - at least we have identified what is wrong and you now know what you need to fix it. Let us know how you get on.
  17. Hi, If you remove cards ( RAM / Video etc ) from the m/board you are going to get POST Beeps. If these beeps stay the same with cards in or out ............in other words 1 Long 2 short beeps then it looks like a motherboard or Video Card problem. If the Video Card is not detected you will get POST beeps. Does your m/board have a different slot to put the video card in ? If so - give this a try. Do you have a different Video Card to try ?
  18. From my previous link: Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver Try this
  19. That is good news. :) Thanks for getting back to us. Your USB Ports must be down a bit on voltage or current as we suggested earlier.
  20. We could have run "Speccy" software to tell us which CPU you had - there was no need to take it out. AMD and Intel invariably have info written on the CPU to identify it. If you haven't taken the heatsink off yet - you could put it back in and run speccy.
  21. Hi, If the m/b specs say 8GB max - that is the maximum TOTAL RAM it supports. 2 x 4GB................. [ not 2 x 8GB ] Socket 775 is a little dated now and this is why you are finding that the boards you are looking at do not support a lot of RAM. Also [ I should have mentioned this earlier ] if you are intending using a 64 bit O/S then your CPU must be 64 bit compatible. If you intend using your present processor then you will need to find out what it is first before you spend any money. =============== Your motherboard is a micro-ATX form factor. [ smaller than standard boards ] If you are using the same case then you need to select a m-ATX board. This is one I found that seems to fit your specs: click here You have gone about this the wrong way. You have bought the ram first then trying to find a m/board that is compatible. Your RAM - 1600MHz - will fit this board but will operate at a lower speed. You need to Google "micro ATX DDR3 8GB socket 775" to get more options. You then need to compare your CPU with the manufacturer's compatability list.
  22. Hi, Have you tried other devices in the USB Ports and do they work ? Start ...type in .....services.msc ......ENTER Scroll down and look for UPnP Device Host and Print Spooler Are they both set to "Automatic" ?
  23. It wouldn't "kill" the board - it just wouldn't recognise any more than 8GB. It may not even allow you to boot up. If the board specs say 8GB then you are wasting money buying more. One more point: If you are putting in more than 4GB RAM then you would need to install a 64 bit O/S A 32 bit O/S will not utilise any more than 3.5 GB.
  24. Hi and welcome from me too :)
