  1. Hi, I have merged your post to the original thread as it is obviously relevant. Sorry that you didn't get a response to your earlier posts. These temps are absolutely fine. This is a good idea. Use short bursts as the propellant can produce liquid deposits if the spray is used for prolonged periods. If it sounds as if it his hitting something as you say - then take a look. This is entirely possible. A fan control program will not make the fan any quieter.
  2. Hi and welcome to ExTS These are the suggested network Drivers for your machine: click here Is this a PCI card ( additional card in a slot ) ? If so - what is the make and model number of this card? Which one did you try?
  3. Hi, Your new m/board supports up to 8 GB DDr3 RAM. Your old board was DDR2 - so you will need new RAM. The CPU socket is the same LGA775 - you can double check the compatability on the Gigabite website. see here You need to know which CPU you have on the old board.
  4. Let us know how you get on with a different PSU
  5. Ray, Bite the bullet and uninstall AVG. Download MS Essentials from here: click here From Starbuck's post: If you do decide to remove AVG. Use the Add/remove and then go to: http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_...avgremover.exe download to your desktop. then double click to start the uninstaller. This will remove all traces of AVG. It really is simple. Essentials gets better reviews than AVG too :) If you are unsure - just ask.
  6. Hi and welcome to ExTS Not good. Did you make the Recovery Disks when you first got the machine? Try this: Switch on and constantly tap F8 about once per second There should be an option to "Repair your Computer" Try "Startup Repair" first.
  7. You are welcome - anytime :)
  8. Software is rarely accurate this is why I asked you to run speccy - "to confirm" You never said this in your first post ( the one I replied to ) You quoted the temperatures as If you have taken RAM / Sound / Video etc cards off the m/b disconnected the HDD and CDROM Left only the 20(4) way PSU connector attached and it is still restarting then you have a problem with your PSU or Motherboard. Try swapping the PSU for a known good one. To test it does not need to be the same wattage.
  9. Hi, Is this your present motherboard? http://reviews.cnet.com/motherboards/foxconn-g31mx-k-motherboard/1707-3049_7-33352426.html If so ..... Your CPU is socket 775. If you wanted to keep your present CPU then the m/board you select would need to be Socket 775 compatible. One more point: If you get a new motherboard you will need to re-install the Operating System on your hard drive. Windows is "clever" enough to recognise a new environment and it will refuse to boot up.
  10. Mine is so slow at times I think it DOES run on diesel :)
  11. Hi and welcome to ExTS You have probably opened up a can of worms with this question :) I prefer to just close the lid and let the machine go into sleep mode. It is accessible faster the next time I want to use it. My laptop is a few years old now and it is left on 24/7 - I just shut the lid and both of us go to sleep :) I think it is a matter of preference. I don't think there is too much extra load put on the hard drive when booting up - if this is just once or twice a day. If you boot up - shut down every 5 minutes then you are going to see problems eventually.
  12. Hi and welcome to ExTS Initially I thought ....overheating. Your CPU temp looks a bit on the high side. 72 deg is a max from what I can find. Just to confirm download speccy from here: click here You need to put the system under load and not look at the temps when idle. Check the case for dust. In particular look at the heat sink fan on the CPU
  13. Hi and welcome to ExTS Interesting Forum Name :)
  14. Hi and welcome to ExTS Firstly - if you took the hard drive from #1 and put it in #2 then unless the motherboard was exactly the same - which I don't think it is as you are getting an activation message, the system will not boot. The activation, I think, is because Windows detects a different environment. If this was the case it is unlikely to be the motherboard - unless you have on-board graphics ? Let's work on PC #1 switch off at the wall - leave the plug in to maintain the earth ( ground ) connection. Take any external hardware ( printer etc ) off the system Take all cards ( RAM / Video etc etc ) off the m/board. Disconnect the molex ( power ) connections from the HDD / CDROM Disconnect the data cables at the m/b end. Leave only the 20(4) way connection from the PSU connected. Switch on. If you have an internal speaker connected you should get POST beeps. You should also see fans spin and any m/board LEDs lit. Do you ?
  15. Hi, It is very unlikely to be malware - we can check that out later if all else fails :) try this: Start ......type in ......cmd ....do not hit ENTER Right click on the cmd.exe that shows top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the command prompt type the following commands: Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: type in ...... netsh winsock reset catalog .........ENTER Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. type in ,,,,,,netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log ........ENTER And just for good measure .... Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. type in ,,,,netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log .......ENTER Try the connection again.
  16. The external drive - is this an IDE or SATA drive ? If it is IDE have you got the jumper setting correct at the back of the drive ?
  17. Hi, Attach the cable as this is the least problematic. In the bottom right of screen there should be a monitor icon. Right click on this. "Connect to a Network" If you click on this - can you see your network? If you try to "Connect" by clicking on it to highlight - does it ask for a Network Key ? [ thinking about it - you shouldn't need to do this wired so try the above wireless ] Check this too: Start > type in ....services.msc .......ENTER Scroll down and look for : WLAN autoconfig .....this should be set to auto Wired autoconfig ......this should be manual or auto They should not be disabled. If you altered either - try connecting again.
  18. Hi, and welcome to ExTS You can try this: Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced Click on the "Reset" button. This will reset IE to default settings. Failing that: Boot up in Safe Mode with Networking Switch on - constantly tap F8 about once per second - select Safe Mode with Networking from the list of options. You should have internet access ( with a bit of luck ) If you do download F_Fox if you can I think you said that you deleted the AV. Do not do any more on the net. Install F_Fox and test again.
  19. Hi, Go back to Device Manager > right click on the ones with a yellow exclamation mark > Uninstall Re-boot. Go back to Device Manager and let me know what is there now. Do you use a USB adapter for the wireless connection ?
  20. Hi and welcome to ExTS Is this your machine? [click on Tech Specs ] click here If so - this says that there should be an AMD Radeon HD 6450 video card 300 Watt PSU - is yours the Mini-case ( not the slim one ) ? ===================== The AMD Radeon HD 6450 is a PCIe x 16 card - so even if it is not there your motherboard should have a PCIe slot. Some Video Cards do not need additional power ( a 6 pin connector ) they take their power from the connections in the actual slot. If there isn't a PCIe 6 pin power connector from the PSU it is possible to get an adapter and convert a spare molex power connector. With 300Watts ( PSU ) your choice of Video Cards is limited. Please confirm that I have the right system linked.
  21. Hi patrick, Take a look here for your choice of Video Card click here I am not the best one to explain HD - TV picture quality as I don't use this set-up. I did find this that may explain one or two things for you: click here
  22. Hi dewey1 and welcome to ExTS I cannot see how this could be the motherboard as you have tried 2 different options with this PC ( wired and wireless ) which use different adapters. Start > type in ...devmgmt.msc ...........ENTER Click the + next to network adapters Let me know exactly what is listed please. There should be 2 devices. Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
  23. Hi Rob and welcome to ExTS I take it you don't have AutoCad on your system ? The file extension .coo is specific to this software which is an industry standard Design Package.
  24. Do you need further advice or is the thread concluded ?
