  1. I asked in my previous post..... What have you got listed in device manager against Display Adapters ?
  2. Hi and welcome from me. This is shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted ...........but for others reading this if you have additional internal / external drives it is important that you remove them ( or at least the cables to them ) before you re-install Windows on the primary drive. shnib - the data should still be recoverable from the unallocated space ( with a bit of luck ). The software that is recommended a lot ( because it is free ) is Recuva. http://www.piriform.com/recuva/download I also found this thread: http://www.pchelpforum.com/hard-drives/91010-please-help-media-drive-now-unallocated-2.html I have not come across easeus software before. This guy says he used the paid for version. He could be posting just to sell the software ( cynical I know :) ) There is a "free" version - I suspect you will be limited to the amount you can recover or number of times you can attempt to use it. Give Recuva a go.
  3. You said you tried all 3 drivers from the Acer site - only one was "correct" - that was the bottom one. What is listed? When you tried to install the driver from the Acre site - you should have disabled the existing drivers from device manager. Right click on the listed device > disable Try the Vistax86 driver from the bottom of the list. Give this a try.
  4. Thanks Bob. The final judging will take place on 8th Dec. If he is selected he will go on to meet the judges in London.
  5. Is this your motherboard? Click Here If so - it is microATX small form factor. 7.5 inch x 6.7 inch The Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 is 6.6 inch long and is a low profile ( small form factor ) card. The PCIe slot looks to be reasonably accessible and if you have any space at the back of the motherboard ( at the RAM end ) all to the good, This card is virtually the same size as the width of the motherboard. The card has 1 HDMI ( DMS59 ) output. DMS-59 supports two DVI Single Link digital channels or two VGA analog channels on low profile cards. You would need an adapter if you wanted to run one or two DVI or VGA monitors. I assume that you are aware that this is not really suitable for gaming ? If the card length is going to fit on the m/board then it should do what you want - with the addition of an adapter.
  6. Hi, I use Microsoft Security Essentials - free from MS. There are a couple of other good free ones too - Avira and Avast. If Trend is what you have been using it may be beneficial to dump it and use one of these.
  7. Hi, The specs for your machine are here: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/0000/Acer/Aspire5315/Aspire5315sp2.shtml This could well be the problem. There may not be appropriate drivers for Win 7. I will see what I can find. You asked this earlier.... Your laptop does not have a card as such. It uses integrated graphics which is a chip on the motherboard. What is listed in device manager against display adapters? (see post 2 for how to get there) ================= From the Acer site: http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=50 The Chipset drivers are XP / Vista 64 bit / Vista x86 ( 32 bit ) The version is 8.2.0.1014 Is this what you have in device manager? There is no appropriate Win7 driver.
  8. You need to give us more feedback otherwise we are not going to get anywhere fast. you didn't answer this: This is important. From what I can gather they make quite a few - the model number would help. Do any computers work with this router?
  9. Hi Nev He is already self-employed doing something with graphics. I think the animation bit is just a hobby .....but who knows :)
  10. Just looking for drivers from the Acer site. That laptop appears to have had Vista or XP on it originally. Which OS is on it? 32 or 64 bit? Which Service Pack do you have ?
  11. Hi, The system file check was unable to repair quite a lot of problems that it found. Try running checkdisk to test the condition of your hard drive. It could be that you have a couple of bad sectors. Click on "Computer" Right-click on the drive in question - usually C:\ > Properties Select the "Tools" tab In the Error-checking area, click <Check Now>. You need to check for bad sectors. You will probably be told that chkdsk needs to run on the next re-start.
  12. Hi and welcome to ExTS If you are updating drivers for hardware you are best advised to get the drivers direct from the manufacturer's site. Start .....type in .....devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the + next to Display Adapters and right click on the Video Card. Click on Properties > then click on the Drivers tab. There should be an option to Roll Back the drivers to the previously installed ones. Give this a try.
  13. I suspect that one side of your video card has a problem. ( Which I think you suspected too ) The way to test this is to put the card in another system and see if you get the same errors. Failing this - if you take it to a good tech he will be able to tell you if the card is functioning properly. I suggest you ask him first how much it will cost to tell you if the card has a problem.
  14. To repair damaged / corrupt system files ( using sfc /scannow ) you would normally have been prompted to insert the Windows installation disk. This is where SFC stores the log of the scan. This can be a massive file - can you identify the unfixed errors ?
  15. I have done a little reading regarding your card. If it is showing 7950GX2 and 7900GTX in device manager - this is correct. If you are not seeing any yellow exclamation marks then the drivers appear to be OK. In Device Manager > right click on the 7950GX2 > Properties. Does it say that the device is working properly? Do the same for the 7900GTX Does it say that the device is working properly? You can try updating the driver software from here. Right click on the 7950GX2 > update driver > select the Auto option. How have you come to this conclusion ?
  16. I assume this means when you try to run something like Spybot or Malwarebytes (MBAM ) ? If you have MBAM try running it in Safe Mode. Switch on and constantly tap F8 ( about once per second ). You will get a list of options - select Safe Mode from there. Graphics will look a bit odd due to minimal drivers. If you can run MBAM post the log here. MBAM available here: Click on Products > you want the free version http://www.malwarebytes.org/
  17. There is very little that you can do with a laptop ( if it is suspected as being hardware related ). 2/3 things you can try: 1. Take the battery out and try booting from the power adapter. 2. Try booting on just the battery alone. 3. Take the RAM modules out. ( These will be underneath a panel in the base of the machine ). Put just one module back. Try booting. If no good - swap the modules over and try booting from the other one. 4. Outside chance ......try Safe Mode. Switch on and constantly tap F8 ( about once per second ) If you can get this far try Safe Mode and Last Known Good Configuration.
  18. You still have not answered this: If you have 7900GTX / 7950Gx2 listed as you say in your first post then right click on 7900GTX and disable.
  19. This implies that you have access to the router - but not beyond. Connect the problem laptop up to the router with an ethernet cable. Can you get an internet connection now? Which operating system is on the problem machine? Did you download anything just before you lost the connection ?
  20. He made the final Many thanks for your support :)
  21. Hi, This is of no use to you now - but guessing and buying hardware hoping it will solve your problem is not a good idea. Did you try "Last Known Good Configuration" ? You say that you have a docking station. Take the drive out and connect it up to another computer using this. Take off the drive any photos / files etc that you cannot afford to lose. (It could be that the drive is going bad) Do you get any clicking noises from the drive ? With the drive connected ( let's say it is showing as F:\ in "Computer" ) Start > type in ....cmd .........Do not hit ENTER yet .... Right click on the CMD that shows top left > Run as Administrator. At the prompt type .......chkdsk F:/f .............there is a space after chkdsk. (remember I used F: .............you will need to check in Computer what letter has been allocated to the drive.) This will check the drive surface for errors and attempt to fix any that it finds. It may take some time to complete - depends on the size of the drive.
  22. We are not going to get very far if you cannot answer all of my questions - unless you want one at a time?
  23. Hi How do you know ? Your Video Card is made up of 2 PCBs Each has a 7900 core. For those reading this the image shows the 2 PCBs which are linked together by a small circuit board. http://static.trustedreviews.com/01ea31%7Ccef3_3028-2.jpg I am unsure how your card can "split" as you suggest. Switch on and constantly tap F8 ( about once per second ) Select Safe Mode from the list of options If you can boot up .... Start > type in .......devmgmt.msc .......ENTER Click the plus next to Display Adapters What is listed? Are there any yellow exclamation marks ?
  24. Take a look at this: They are watching my nephew's animation. I think I prefer watching these two :)
  25. No Hard Drive ?? So - as I see it .....you have one possibly working PC with more hard disks than you can shake a stick at ..... and 2 boxes that are no use without a Hard Disk . Your question again?
