  1. How does the system report that the drive is not available when you connect it? If you cannot get the drive recognised and to show up in Computer we will not be able to access it or run any checks on it. Try this - it has worked on occasion in the past: Wrap the drive tightly with clingfilm. Then put the drive in a plastic bag ( food bag ? ) and expel as much air as you can. Seal it up and put it in a freezer over-night. You are trying to stop condensation forming on the drive. Connect up to the adapter again and see if it is recognised now. This will not harm the drive ( it is not accessible anyway ).
  2. If this is correct this may be the problem. Contact your ISP and explain the problem. See if they can shed any light on the problem.
  3. This is what it says - virtual. It is not the actual Wireless Adapter but a feature of Win7 that uses the adapter to create a virtual network. What exactly is listed?
  4. Is this correct? The upload speed is usually much slower that the d/l speed. Compare the results with this one http://speedtest.net/
  5. Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc ....ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters You should have 2 listed. One will have "wireless" or "WiFi" in the device name. Right click on this > Update drivers. You need to be connected to the internet. Use the auto search option.
  6. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have split your post from the other thread - you are better with your own :) When you connect the old hard drive to the desktop if you go to Computer - does it show there? If you go to Start and type in ....diskmgmt.msc ......does it show there ? It actually recognises it as a hard drive - but says it is not available ?
  7. Your pc is slow Your dad's pc is slow. Your X-Box is slow. It looks like a connection problem. Try speedtest from here: http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ What is the download speed ? Also - ask your ISP to check the line for you ...............it may be a fault at their end.
  8. It would seem that the RAM is not your problem. For future reference the RAM is located under a panel in the base. http://www.techyv.com/sites/default/files/users/sharathr/laptop-memory.jpg Try using this speedtest: http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ You are interested in the download speeds for both wireless and a wired connection. Use the wireless connection where you would normally operate the laptop. Let me know what the two speeds are.
  9. Hi and welcome to ExTS I know Starbuck - (Admin and Security Expert) has views on Rapport which I am sure he will share with you. If your system is running better without it - leave it off. I know of no Admin or Moderator who has this software on their system. If you have a good AV and Firewall you do not need it. Starbuck or Etavares will be able to add more to this.
  10. Did you run MBAM ? Even if it appears to have fixed it - you still need a security expert to check out your system. Post the log.
  11. I don't know what sort of warranty you have - but how can you tell if the machine functions correctly if you can't use it ??
  12. What you describe could be due to a bad RAM module. I assume that you will not be invalidating the warranty by removing the RAM? Shut down and remove the battery and the power adapter. The RAM is located underneath a panel in the base of the machine. You probably have 3 x 2 GB. Locate the panel and if you have 3 modules - remove one. Run the machine. If it is no better - swap the module you removed for one of the others. (Note which one you have just swapped) Replace the last one and try. Obviously if your machine runs OK ( and it should ) with 4GB then the RAM you have removed is faulty.
  13. Hi and welcome to ExTS In cases like this ( new laptop ) I always advise having a word with the seller. You have spent a lot of money and you need the machine to be right. From what I can find - this machine comes with 6GB RAM. Is this the case with yours? I assume that you have Win7 64bit?
  14. Thank you - you are welcome. Cheque in the post .....................OOPS !!
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS I suspect that this may be malware related. Until one of our experts takes a look please download MBAM from here: Click Here Install > Update > Run it. It will produce a log. Copy this and post it here. One of our security experts will advise further.
  16. Apparently the drivers for that printer are embedded in Win7. I assume that you have Win7 64 bit? There is, however, an add-on that you can try. This may correct the scanning problem and appears to be 32 and 64 bit compatible. (you may need the serial number off the printer) http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0035869.asp?model= EDIT: RandyL found the 64bit drivers. http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0035913.asp?model Try these first then, if you still have the same problem, try the add-on link.
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS If you meant MP520 ( Canon ) try downloading the drivers from here: http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0035877.asp?model=
  18. Thanks for the feedback on this - we could have taken a long time to find that one :)
  19. Presumably if you paid for a service then you should contact whoever built the machine and ask them to put it right. I am unsure what warranty you have - but with some you cannot even go inside the case. Are you sure that you are not invalidating the warranty ? There is an explanation on testing a PSU here: http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10
  20. Hi David and welcome to ExTS If your system is overclocked and you re-set the BIOS to defaults by removing the CMOS battery this could affect the overclocking settings which is done from the BIOS. I don't think your problem is BIOS related. Custom Built How long ago? If you are getting no beeps then your system is not getting past the POST ( Power On Self Test ) stage. I have come across this before and the problem has been the Power Supply Unit. They don't just stop working - they can "break down" over a period of time. I can explain how to test this ( voltmeter ) and give you further instructions that require the motherboard cards etc to be taken off ( this is relatively easy ). If you wish to go down this route let me know.
  21. Thanks for that information. I suspect the RAM. Switch off at the wall but leave the plug in. Take the side panel off the tower. Locate the RAM modules and take out the new ones. There is a lever at each end that just needs to be moved away from the module and it will pop out. ( to re-install make a note of the position of the notch and the module will push back into place. The levers will click into place automatically) Try the machine with the old RAM in. Shut down normally and switch off again at the wall. Take the old RAM out and try the new RAM. If there is a difference there is probably a fault with one of the new RAM modules.
  22. 8 Gig is plenty - I assume you have Win 7 64 bit? I never asked you ..... What did you have done ?
  23. I don't think this is a router problem. How much RAM do you have installed? Start > type in ....winver....ENTER It should say "Physical Memory Available"
  24. Sorry - I don't know how I missed that. Does the system hang when booting in Safe Mode? Switch on and constantly tap F8 about once per second. You will get a list of options. Select Safe Mode from the list. Graphics will look odd.
  25. Sorry to have to ask this again ......is this delay with the external hard drive connected? Does it just go directly to the desktop ?
