  2. Hi and welcome to ExTS HelpPane is a non-system Windows process. From what I have read it is not considered to be CPU intensive. If you are experiencing 50% CPU usage it could be malware related. Spybot is not the software of choice for our Security Experts. Download MBAM from here: click on Products - you want the free version. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Install > Update > Run it It will produce a log in Notepad. Copy this and paste it here. One of our security experts will advise you further. Please be patient - they are extremely busy.
  3. Hi, You should have come here first :) Good to hear that you have solved your problem.
  4. Hi, You seem to have put together a nice piece of kit. With ref. to Video Card - you may wish to look here: click here You cannot go wrong with Kingston RAM or Corsair PSU. You may wish to consider a PSU with bigger Wattage just in case you want to upgrade the Video Card in the future. I am assuming that the Seagate drive will be used for storage and the OS will be on the solid state ? 64 bit Windows to go with the 8GB RAM ?
  5. From what I have read this is most likely related to TCPIP.sys being corrupt. Do you have your XP installation CD ? ( not recovery disks )
  6. Hi, MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) is not embedded in XP. You need Windows Media Player 10 or higher. Do you have Media Player on your system ?
  7. Our posts crossed - look at my last one :)
  8. System Requirements: OS: Windows XP/Vista CPU: 1.8 GHz RAM: 512 MB DirectX: 9.0 Hard Drive: 293 MB The above are the system specs for art of murder (deadly secrets) They are very basic - I assume that your system complies ? Right Click My Computer > Properties to find out how much RAM Which Service Pack do you have ? ============= Start > Run .....type in ......devmgmt.msc ...........ENTER Click the + next to Display Adapters What is listed? ============= Start > Run .....type in ......dxdiag .....ENTER What version of Direct X do you have? =============
  9. You are very welcome. Thanks for the feedback - somebody else may benefit :)
  10. Let me know how you get on with the change of channel frequency. You may need to try a few - try the extremes first.
  11. Please do the following when you can connect - then again when the connection has dropped. Start > type in ....cmd ......right click on the cmd.exe top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the command prompt type .....ipconfig /all .........ENTER This is a small black icon top left. Right click on this > Edit > Select All Right click on it again > Edit > Copy CTRL + V to paste both here. Please make sure there is a connection and there is no connection by looking at the monitor icon bottom left of screen.
  12. I thought we had found a quick fix :) ( seems not ) You have a wireless adapter. Unplug the cable and switch on the wireless ( if there is a switch ) You should see an icon bottom right of screen that looks like a monitor ...... right click on this. Connect to a network. You should be able to see yours. Click on this > Connect. You will be asked for the Network Key .......... Can you connect this way?
  13. The Video Card looks as if it should be OK. The PSU looks like a standard ATX one - is this the same size and shape that you have on your present system?
  14. I suspect that this is your problem. Experiment with the different channels to find one that doesn't conflict.
  15. Hi again, It looks as if Staples connected Wirelessly - did they ? If they did they may not meet the problem you are having: Your Ethernet Adapter Default Gateway is set to 0.0.0.0 This can be due to Apple's Bonjour Service. There is a fix here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970313 Scroll down to the FixIt Let me know how you get on.
  16. Hi and welcome to ExTS A wired connection is as simple as it gets. If you have swapped ethernet cables - that rules that out as a problem. If your machine connects on a different system then it is unlikely to be a setting on that machine. Connect the problem machine up to the router with the ethernet cable. Start .....type in .....cmd .......right click on the cmd.exe top left of screen > run as Administrator At the command prompt type in .......ipconfig /all .............ENTER ( space before /all ) There will be a small black icon top left. Right click on this > edit > select all Right click on the icon again > edit > copy Paste the results here using CTRL + V
  17. Hi, You could try changing the channel. Sometimes cordless phones and other radio-type electronics interferes with the connection. Try channel 7 or 11 It could be that the router is on the way out and the signal is not as good as it should be. I recently replaced my router ( provided free by my ISP ) for a bought one. Mine was dropping the connection regularly too.
  18. I think this is your motherboard: click here If it is ... There is 1 PCI express slot. You should, therefore, be able to fit a low profile (not a standard) PCIe Video Card. Next problem ..... You will need to upgrade the PSU if yours is only 220Watts
  19. Hi If I can add to what has been said: Playing games - even basic ones - needs a reasonable video card. On-board graphics, as Nev has already pointed out, just aren't good enough to cope with the amount of data handling needed. To advise on a suitable card we need to know what motherboard specs you have - particularly the slot where a Video Card to be located. I found this: click here If this is your machine it suggests it is an ultra Small Factor - which in itself limits the choice of Video Card. I cannot see any mention of PCI or PCIe expansion slots. This is what is necessary to house the Video Card. Let's see what the software comes up with - but you may be unlucky and your motherboard may not be equipped to accept a video card. You could always take the side panel off and let us know the reference number on the motherboard. Also - it looks as if your PSU is 220Watts. If you can add a video card this would need to be upgraded too.
  20. OK - let's take it from here: 1. I assume that this is on the monitor icon ....bottom right of screen ? 2. When your brother is connected wirelessly - is he in the same room as you ? 3. If not - test to see if he loses the connection from your location. 4. Does the laptop drop the connection if you are in the same room as the router? I suspect that this is a poor signal from the router or there is radio interference. 5. It may be linked to cordless phones - do you have any in the house. 6. What is the make and model number of the router?
  21. Hi, Linux based systems are less likely to be compromised by a virus attack - but I suspect that this will not last forever. Try AVAST click here
  22. I am not a gamer - nobody here ( that I know of ) is. 750Watt is reasonably future-proof. Some of the high-end Video Cards need more. As you say - £77 for an OS is not bad. I would suggest that this should be Win7 64bit. A 32 bit system will only recognise 4GB RAM and make use of about 3.5GB. As your system comes with 8GB RAM a 64bit O/S is the way to go.
  23. This is illegal in itself. You are now trying to install the same OS on yet another machine. If this Disk came with your original machine it is not going to be a multi-user license. We cannot assist you with what you are trying to do - I am sorry.
  24. I suspect that your XP installation disk has "DELL" written on it and the letters OEM ? It will be tied to a Dell machine. There is no way around this and it would be illegal to do it even if there was.
  25. Based on your other 2 posts I have to wonder if this is designed to waste our time too ??
