  1. Hi and welcome to ExTS There are a few pieces of software you can try. Try Recuva first: http://www.piriform.com/recuva DO NOT install it on the drive that you have just formatted. Install it on the drive that has Windows on it then get the Recuva software to access the formatted drive - if it can. DO NOT add anything at all to the formatted drive. If you do the documents that you want will be completely overwritten. There are no guarantees - you may get something back.
  2. Hi and welcome to ExTS The message actually says " ......when these conflicting applications are closed" You don't need to "turn it off" - all you have to do is click the red X in the top right corner when you are viewing an internet page. It may show at the bottom of the screen in a panel with a blue "e". If it is there - right click on it > Close. The box you have posted says "Uninstall ......" ??
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS We need a bit more information please: I assume this is a desktop ? y/n How are you trying to connect - wired / wireless ? Do you have a router? If so ......make and model number please. Start > Run ....type in ....devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters What is listed ? Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
  4. Hi and welcome to ExTS This could be part of your problem. You should only have one AV on your system. If you have more they will conflict and create problems. Both are good - but you need to take one off. See how the system performs then.
  5. Absolutely no need for apologies - this is exactly what we are here for :) Glad to hear it is working now.
  6. With the on-board disconnected and the monitor connected to the Video Card - presumably you are getting a screen display ? The card must be "seen" as being there. That card has 2 PCIe 6 pin Power connectors. Do you have these connected ? What PSU wattage do you have ?
  7. For the cost of a cable it is worth a try. If the VGA connection is problematic a DVI cable would solve the problem.
  8. You are very welcome. Let us know how you get on :) Make sure that the Case you are ordering has enough Molex ( power ) connections for your use [ hard drive - dvd drive require molex power connections ]. Most Video Cards require 1 or 2 ....6 pin PCIe power connections. These are supplied from the PSU. If there isn't a 6 pin PCIe connector you can get an adapter to convert a Molex connection.
  9. VGA is an analogue signal where DVI is digital or analogue ............it supports both. It is generally considered that a digital signal produces a much sharper picture. The DVI cable should give you a sharper picture - especially if you are using higher resolutions. On a 17inch monitor you may not see too much of a difference.
  10. Bad news - he is now lying 9th. - with 6 days to go. There has been some serious cheating going on and I cannot work out how. I have had a look at the voting and quite a few have a daily count of something like 90 / 147 / 120 / 2480 / 850 / 90 ....... The jump from an average of just over 100 to 2000 doesn't equate. My nephew's count is considerably more evenly spread. Am I just being cynical ??
  11. Hi, Yes. Windows comes with generic drivers so you will get a display - similar to Safe Mode. It may be better to disable it in Device Manager. Click the + next to Display Adapters. If your on-board Adapter is showing > right click > disable.
  12. Good News Acer UK have replied to my email and the result is your motherboard is a standard board and can be moved to a new case. Their e-mail is below: Thank you for contacting Acer UK. We regret the inconvenience experienced. Regarding your enquiry, yes the motherboard can be transferred to a standard case. With regards to your product’s warranty, please note the customer is able to add hardware on the unit. Acer would not support any additional hardware added by you nor support any compatibility issues/software conflicts arising from this configuration. Please contact a local technician while adding hardware to the product. We would like to inform you, as per our records the unit is out of warranty. I have written back and asked for confirmation regarding the PSU. But ......looking at your pictures and the sizes you have given me - your PSU, in my opinion, is non-standard. I suggest you wait a day or two for official confirmation - but it looks like you will need to go for a new case. Let me know what you think.
  13. Do you have on-board video? If so - Is it disabled in the BIOS?
  14. It does sound like a connection problem. Switch off at the wall - leave the plug in the socket. Take the Video Card out. Clean the contacts with a pencil eraser and replace. Try it now. Do you get the same problem with a different monitor? Borrow one to try ?
  15. Download MBAM from here: Click on Products > you want the free version. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Install > Update > Run It will produce a log. Copy this and post it here. Starbuck or etavares will advise further.
  16. Hi and welcome to ExTS Go to Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. On the Volume Tab under Device Volume, put a check in the box that reads: Place volume icon in the taskbar.
  17. Hi, D-Sub ( D-Subminiture ) could refer to the VGA connection / lead. You could have a poor connection. Try moving the lead gently to see if you get the same effect. Make sure there are no bent or broken pins in the VGA connection at the computer end.
  18. Starbuck could you take a quick look at the system please ?
  19. Hi and welcome to ExTS It does sound as if the driver you are using is not the right one. Where did you get it from? Did you uninstall old drivers from Device Management ?
  20. Re: Startup Start > type in ...msconfig ......ENTER Click on "Startup" tab. Most of what is listed is not necessary. You could write down which ones are ticked for reference later. Un-tick all EXCEPT your Antivirus and Firewall. > OK You may be prompted to restart. If you don't get the problem again it is obviously something in the Start-up that is causing it.
  21. Nev's advice regarding the recovery disks is good. The .AX file extension is related to Video Playback Programs like Quick Time. You could try running CCleaner. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download DO NOT use the registry option - run it on default settings. Found this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd388914(v=vs.85).aspx The language is technical - but the ksproxy.ax file is a genuine one. Will pick this up again tomorrow.
  22. Hi, Go here and let Dell scan your system for the Service Tag. Use this and see which drivers it comes up with for your system. EDIT: Ignore this - I missed the other posts. I will get back to you.
  23. Sorry - I was not aware the link I gave you was not free. My mistake. Realtek AC97 are general purpose drivers. Try this link: Use the green d/l button http://download.cnet.com/Audio-Realtek-ALC655-AC-97-AUDIO/3000-2110_4-168843.html
  24. Hi, Give this a go: http://xpdrivers.com/sound-audio/dell/_3_2390.cfm If that doesn't fix it ... Which Service Pack are you using? Start > Run .....type in ....winver.....ENTER
