  2. Is this your m/board ? http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://c0.dmlimg.com/1fc1c1c2db5852e08ffc380475e26336f194f8360885c5d243c725985315d46f.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.adverts.ie/hardware/packard-bell-cuba-msi-ms-7301-socket-775-motherboard/179277&usg=___IK2veP5FWNaqAj59yKuCgFLPpA=&h=294&w=220&sz=16&hl=en&start=7&zoom=1&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=0lpZqyJA0IV4NM:&tbnh=115&tbnw=86&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcuba%2Bmotherboard%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26tbm%3Disch&ei=V8J9Tqa6OsGZ8QP--LWbAQ If so the chipset is VIA PT890 You can check by taking a look at the big chips on the m/board. VIA drivers are here: http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp As your m/board is an old one the driver from 2004 may do the job http://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/4in1/via_hyperion%204%20in%201_v453v.zip
  3. http://www.uselessgraphics.com/1193.gif Take a look here: http://www.ehow.com/video_4994420_make-windows-vista-recovery-disk.html
  4. Are you UK based ?
  5. Hi and welcome to ExTS I see you have been advising in a couple of threads - always good to have other input :)
  6. Hi, Locate ISBMgr.exe and rename it to oldISBMgr.exe ( the name doesn't really matter as long as it is different ) It may be found here ......C:\Program Files\sony\isb utility\ Alternatively : Start > in the run box type isbmgr.exe .....ENTER This will locate it on your system ( if it is there )
  7. http://www.volksgirls.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/dance_dancing-smiley.gif You are very welcome. Are you OK with this or do you still need assistance ?
  8. With the battery in place - what is the exact error message you are getting ? Is the battery a Sony battery or is it a replacement ?
  9. The key word here is - beta. This product is still in the development stage. There are no guarantees that it is functioning correctly. Personally - I wouldn't have it on my system.
  10. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have split your post from the other thread - you are better with your own :) Start > Run ......type in ......devmgmt.msc .......ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters 1. Is the wireless adapter listed? 2. Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ? ============= Take a look at the link below: http://www.wolfson.cam.ac.uk/computers/roomconnection/setdhcp/windowsxp.html Make sure that Obtain ip Address and DNS Server are both checked / ticked. 3. please confirm that this is correct.
  11. I don't think that would have solved your problem - has it ? Do you have a Vista installation disk? (not recovery disks) If so - we can use it to run a Startup Repair.
  12. Correction to PM - I didn't close this particular thread. (I don't think ??????) It is open again for business :)
  13. Hi and welcome to ExTS I know you have uninstalled the drivers but try this method: With the adapter connected ... Start > type in ....devmgmt.msc ....ENTER Click the + next to Batteries Right click Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery > Uninstall. Now take the battery out and wait for 1 minute. Replace the battery. Go back to device manager > click on Action on the taskbar > Scan for Hardware Changes Windows will re-install the drivers needed to control the battery power.
  14. Once you have copied it into Wordpad - click on File > Save As Name it Test.vbs Save it to the desktop On the desktop it will show up as an icon named "Test" Click on this and it should run the VBS script. If it doesn't - right click on it > Open with ..."Windows Based Script Host"
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS Have you replaced the battery recently? We have had something like this before. Goku - one of our Moderators - found a solution. See here: http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/2826-Laptop-battery
  16. Hi and welcome to ExTS If this is your card - this one has a fan. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Palit-210-1GB-Graphics-PCI-Express/dp/B003CMNX7K Are you sure yours has 1GB onboard memory ? Trying to determine the PSU requirements. How many Watts does your PSU supply ? ============== There is always the possibility that the card has a fault.
  17. This is VERY expensive. You could try connecting it to another machine and see if you can access the drive before you take any drastic action. We can explain if necessary.
  18. Let us know how you get on.
  19. If it was my machine - I would run the System Restore. Install the updates manually - testing after each one. At least that way you would know for certain if it was an update that is causing your problem. Obviously this is your choice.
  20. Hi, I thought for one moment that you had 2 AVs on your system. Take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950375/en-us/ It relates to the error... I will get back to you re. "drivers failed to load" error
  21. Just on the P-Bell site. How much RAM do you have? Apparently with 4GB RAM on that Cuba m/board XP will not detect the chipset. EDIT: Try the drivers here: http://download.cnet.com/Audio-Realtek-ALC888-HD-Audio-Driver-Version-A01/3000-2110_4-168836.html I found a guy with the same problem - same m/board and OS - this solved his sound problem. Give this a try :) If this fails - Take a look at the m/board again. Is "Biostar" written anywhere ?
  22. If you use recovery disks to restore to factory settings you will lose everything. If you have the original installation disk ( full install not recovery disks ) it is possible to try a Repair Install. If you are going to go down either of these routes I suggest trying to get your photos / files off the drive first by connecting it up to another system. It is also possible to run a diagnostic check on the drive from the other system. ================== This STOP error is not the easiest to diagnose: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330182
  23. Hi, This gives us something to work on. Please go back to Services Start > type in .....services ......ENTER Scroll down to the "Server" service and make sure it is set to "Automatic" ============= I was re-reading the thread .......in the OTL log it is showing evidence of McAfee Do you have Avast and McAfee on your system ?
  24. Hi, You are not the first - and will certainly not be the last to use the wrong jack socket :) Thanks for the feedback.
