1. It is sometimes described as that - yes :)
2. Hi Ray It is a very long time since I used IE6 :) Take a look here - click here This may help too - click here
3. Hi farghi and welcome to ExTS :) I have my doubts that the clicking sound is coming from the motherboard. I suspect that it is coming from the hard drive itself. Can you take the drive out and connect it with an adapter or external enclosure to the USB port of a working computer ...... or use SATA leads and connect it direct to the motherboard of a desktop machine. The "no battery charge" could be due to the fact that the battery is 9 years old :) 17v seems a little low ............normally I would expect 19v ...........but the label on the unit itself should confirm what the voltage should be.
4. Hi Osprey Not sure if EaseUs will see a networked drive - but worth a go ... click here It will allow up to 2GB free - if the files are less than that then you are home and dry .....assuming it can see them :)
5. Definitely do not get a full height card. Your machine is described as a "Small Form Factor" in the manual and it also states there that the PCIe x16 slot is only suitable for Low Profile cards. Make sure that any card you consider is Low Profile. It will say this in the description of the card. You can compare the height and length of the card with a standard card to see the difference. [ The difference is usually in the height ]
6. Looks like a useful site Randy. :)
7. Changing the hard drive certainly wouldn't have caused a problem with the motherboard - if in fact the motherboard has a problem. One other thing ...... the power supply / battery. If the battery is low or not being charged and the power adapter is not supplying enough voltage you would not get anything on screen. You may get LEDs lit as they take very little current. You can check this with a Voltmeter if you have one. The output voltage of the power adapter should be around 19v. Take a look here - Alternatively ask a friend or a local tech - he should do this for free as it only takes seconds ......but ask first :)
8. This isn't looking good. Have you tried this with the hard drive out. Obviously it will not boot up - but you should get something on screen. If this fails then it is looking like a motherboard problem.
9. Hi Ray It is a long time since I used IE6 ..............does this help ? click here It is for Virgin Media - but the method should still be the same.
10. Nice one Seedy21 - I'm glad there is somebody here who knows a bit about iPads :)
11. If that connection is a DMS59 [ Dual Monitor System connection ] then yes it will. If the socket is not DMS59 then this gives you the same situation that you would have if you just added a splitter to what you have at the moment. The pic above is DMS59 .....it is difficult to tell from your pic. :) The advantage of DMS59 cards is that they tend to be low profile ( not as high ) and in your case this may be an advantage. Otherwise you need a video card with 2 outputs. I had a look around and cards with 2 VGA outputs don't seem to exist so as I stated earlier ... you would need an adapter from HDMI to VGA to convert the digital output signal to a VGA connection suitable for your monitor. The image above shows the back of a card that has 3 video outputs. The blue VGA connection you could use. The other connections you would need an adapter for so that you could connect your second VGA monitor to the card. If you look at the links in my last post they both show cards with 2 or more connections. EDIT: Just had a look around .... click here This card on eBay has the DMS59 connection Scroll down for other options. You don't need to buy from eBay - you can simply take the model number of the card and Google it :) Dual Monitor Set-up Win7 This link explains - click here
12. Can you possibly borrow a monitor and connect this up. This will tell us if the problem lies with the video side of things. Try taking the battery out and switch on using only the power supply. Also try using the battery only. You didn't swap the drives over with the machine switched on by any chance ?
13. Yes - afraid so. You are not going to get a new card for £15 - you may get a second hand one on eBay but obviously there are risks. I found a couple: click here click here Dabs are reputable ( UK based ) Both of these cards have 1 VGA socket. If you wanted to use 2 monitors with VGA connections you would need an adapter for one of the other sockets. Using VGA the signal is purely analogue. It cannot carry sound. No problem as your monitors will not have speakers. You no doubt have external speakers. DVI / HDMI are digital. You will get a better picture - but being used to VGA you will not be too bothered about that. You could use one of the digital connections to connect up to the TV. ( assuming that you have a digital connection on the TV ) I have used this for catching up on programs I have missed. Windows 7 has built in options for dual monitors. Hope this helps.
14. Hi This is very strange. Take the RAM modules out and switch on. ( they will be underneath a panel in the base of the machine ) If you get anything on screen now - put just one RAM module back in. Try booting - if black screen - try the other module. Out of interest ....if you still have a black screen ...try the old hard drive back in to see if it is still the same.
15. No. The splitter simply divides the signal on the output from the Video Card.
16. Hi again Take a very close look at the screen. Can you see any graphics - very faint in the background. ? I am assuming that you did have screen graphics before you added the hard drive ? Do you have a monitor that you can plug in to the laptop ?
17. It will show the same thing on two screens - if this is what you want then this is a far cheaper option :)
18. Accessing the BIOS is not related to the Hard Drive condition. You should get something on screen immediately you switch on. The machine will go through Power On Self Test .....nothing to do with the hard drive. [ it uses a programmable chip on the motherboard ] Do you see nothing at all on screen ?
19. You are not going to get much for this George. Have you considered a splitter ? Something similar to this .... click here It simply plugs into the VGA output on the present card.
20. Hi, Do you have the installation CD in the drive ? Have you set the BIOS to boot from the DVD CDROM as the first boot option ?
21. Next question ....which connections do your monitors have ? How much do you want to spend ?
22. Sorry George I am still a little confused. You mentioned "Dual Graphics Card " Do you want to use 2 cards in your machine - or do you want a card with 2 outputs so that you can operate 2 monitors ?
23. Some more information here - click here
24. Hi George The "Hardware Ref Guide" for your machine is here - click here According to the specs - you have only one PCIe x 16 slot What are you proposing to do ?
25. I will mark this one a "Solved" Gadgie - you know where we are if you have any problems in future :)
