  2. Hi I am just starting a new topic in the right section. Randy has already given me most of the ansers i need. Just some more things i need to know. Background: got a pc from some to repair - had a lot of virusses on and an old norton. i thought ok norton = crap = uninstall. ok. Do online scan find 41 viruses. install AVG and it found another 17. Now: I thought the updates will work but it still cant install them( 69 of them). Now someone told me reinstall windows i think this will be best but the person has programs that cant be deleted. also i for some reason thought if i uninstal ie i can reinstall it but now it has the ie with no add-on. so i cant use the activex control. i am going to do the other online scans now and do i turn the system restore off and on after the scans? Thanks for all the help (sorry for spelling)

  4. Hi thanx yeah i read alot about people saying registry cleaners is only looking for a disaster to happen. i am trying to avoid using it now. I am also busy trying to fix someone pc and i think there is alot of viruses on coz windows security updates wont install, there is like 65 updates that cant install i dont know why. I did an online scan with bitdefender and it found 45 virusses in 135 files. Then installed AVG and it found 17 viruses. Now i am trying to update windows but it wont install security updates. Any Advice? Do i need to run a spyware program as-well? or would the antivirus pick that up too? Thank you

  7. McAfee-Question: Is Windows a virus? No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do: They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that. Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that. Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too. Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. Sigh... Windows does that, too. Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2.) and the user will buy new hardware. Yup, that's with Windows, too. Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature. So Windows is not a virus. It's a bug.

Or do you think all of them will be like this one? Thanks for all the help. i had to disable my anti-virus just to download the file to submit to virustotal. (i always go save rather than install it is safer :-) )
  11. Hi all I am trying out an online casino to play poker, and it requires a file download. Now when i try and download it my bitdefender blocks it's it - says adware.casino.R. Now is this harmful or can i install it. I uploaded the file to virustotal.com and some anti-virus like nod32 and symantec dont detect it. Thanks in advance maynard Also 2 of the anti-virus programs says not a virus, but i want to be sure if i can install it and what is the risks? Thanks
