  3. Hi all Some older games are slow on my laptop. (counterstrike 1.6 and warcraft 3). They will run very smooth with no problems for a while and the suddenly they very slow for a short time and then fine again and then slow again after short time again, and it goes on like this the whole time. My laptop specs are way above minimum spec for both these games. I just dont know what is causing this. I dont know if it may get hot or something. Any ideas would be apreciated. Thanx

  6. Hi Is your hard drive and cd on same cable, if yes check hard disk is master and cd slave. also make sure the bios picks up the hard drive and cd.
  7. you can check the webpage first Click Start / Run Type regedit and press enter. Open the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder Open the CLSID folder Open the {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} folder Open the ShellFolder folder Change the "Attributes" data value from "40 01 00 20" to "50 01 00 20". Once completed change the "CallForAttributes" dword value to "0x00000000" (double-click and change value data to 0). You must change both of these values to get the rename to appear. After performing the above steps you will be able to rename the icon like any other icon. Right-click the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop and click Rename and rename it to whatever you wish. try this i found it on computerhope.com if you like you can look at the wbsite click here : http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000543.htm hope this helps
  8. Hi go to run and type regedit click the + by HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then SOFTWARE, Microsoft Windows, CurrentVersion, Explorer, Desktop, NameSpace then click on {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} and see if the value in data says "Recycle Bin". Post back and tell us what it says there. I DO NOT advise in changing any in the registry yet. First tell if the info there is correct. I think danzil knows more about changing things in the registry. Good luck
  9. Hi Do you have an anti-virus program on your pc. If you have do a complete system scan, also try an online virus scan if you dont have anti virus. First try that and see if it solves the problem. Go here for a online virus scan : http://us.trendmicro.com/us/home/index.html click where it says "housecall"
  10. Hi I would like to know what you think is the best anti virus program. Security is very important to avoid alot of problems. I was just wondering what is everyone's opinion on the best anti virus software. I am running BitDefender and think it is briliant. I also found this website on antivirus reviews check it out : http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ Cheers
  11. Is it only that one website or is it other websites aswell?
  12. Hi If it is the jack itself you can get an sound card and disable the onboard one in bios. (danzil must just correct me if i'm wrong :-) ). I think that would be cheapest. And also make sure like he said its not on mute and speakers power is on. Good luck.
  13. Hi just a silly question. I know my virtual mem should be 1 and a half times installed RAM. But on a laptop the graphics uses some of the physical mem as shared RAM. Now do i deduct the graphics mem from the total mem then times 1.5 to get a recommended virtual mem. I dont really think it wil make a big difference but it would be interesting to know. :-) Thanks
  14. Check this maybe it wil work i think its for xp though. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/copy.mspx?mfr=true sorry i found another page also with copy command but tell me if its the right ones. Look here : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259252
  15. I realy liked americas army on pc and need for speed underground 2 on PS2.
  16. Does this happen to any DVD or just one? Could be only the DVD. If it is a copied DVD it could just be a fualty DVD. As you can play music fine i doubt it is the speakers. What player are you using?
  17. Yeah there is just copy it over. real simple is'nt it. Or delete old stuff u are not using. Use add/remove programs.
  18. As far as i know microsoft has stopped support for windows 98. Also check out this : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/support/endofsupport.mspx
  19. Check on your motherboard manual what the max memory is it can take.
  20. boot up with the windows cd in and make sure the bios is set to boot from cd. You should be able to install it again it will ask you to format as well. LOSING all data. Hope this helps.
  21. If both pc's have network cards you can just use an cross-over UTP cable to connect them to each other. Or you can use an USB cable. Look at this for using an usb cable : http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/248
  22. could be anything, overheating perhaps. Check all fans are working, test your power supply as this could also be a problem. You should give more details on exactly what is happening. The more information you give the better.
  23. You will need to install the driver for your sound card, if you know what make it is you can try and download the drivers from the manufacturer website.
  24. Hi You can try this: Use any text editor (such as Notepad) to edit the System.ini file. Add the following line to the [boot] section of the file: drivers=mmsystem.dll Save and then close the System.ini file. Restart your computer. Or you can try this: Insert your original Windows CD in the CD/DVD-ROM drive, open an MS-DOS prompt, and navigate to the folder on the CD that contains the setup.cab files. These will be files numbered in sequence with names like Win98_21.cab, Win98_22.cab, etc. Within that directory, find the first CAB file name in sequence. Now enter the command--> EXTRACT/LC:Windows /A win98_21.cab rundll32.exe,--- replacing Win98_21.cab with the actual lowest-numbered CAB file name. This will extract a fresh copy of Rundll32.exe and put this essential file directly into your Windows folder.
  25. Should work fine as long as the PC2100 is in the first slot. DO NOT mix DDR and DDR2/DDR3, as long it is the same type. Just check to see if your motherboard supports PC2100.
