Hello, have an older XP computer and had to restore system to original state. No install disk.... computer came loaded with Windows XP 2002 - Service Pack 2. Had a problem with Unmountable_Boot Volume and the only way to solve the issue was to use this function available to restore the system.Since doing so am unable to update Windows XP. Know I have to install SP3 and not sure if there are any other updates needed before doing this.. Automatic Updates is not working and cannot update windows directly from the Windows site. Have upgraded the Browser to IE8... is this a problem?...Need some help as to "how" to get this computer updated... don't know what order to do it in, etc...Any help greatly appreciated, thanks. While installing TurboTax error was issued regarding NET Framework. The software tried to fix problem but failed. I tried to down load the files below from Windows update site and after trying three times to download and install alll five of these files below download fine but all failed to install. I do know that when I looked at installed programs the .NET Framework 1.1 was not listed but NET Framework Client profile was on the system. I do not like windows 8 and would like to have the other windows on my brand-new computer. to be honest I wish that the whole stopping what ever you are doing on the computer because it decides that it wants to restart itself is really no convenient. I have downloaded wdo to a usb (twice now) but when I try to boot the computer, I get a black screen and a bluish windows logo, but nothing else. It is just frozen. I am trying to clean the Alureon virus from my computer and so far, nothing will clean it completely. View this thread

Initial question: I have just reinstalled windows 7 on my system and windows update is not checking for updates. When I go to the Windows update section there is a window with a red shield with an 'x' that says 'check for updates for your computer' with a clickable icon at the bottom saying check for updates. When i click it nothing happens. Tried using the fixit software but this 'encountered an error' and could do nothing. No error code given. So now when i click on the "check for updates" button i get a message saying: "Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. I have tried these 3 methods yet and did not work, even with my anti virus disabled.Method 1 Run Windows Update troubleshooter and check if it helps. a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard, this will bring the search interface. b) Type in ‘Troubleshooting’ and click on ‘Settings’ for the result. c) Under ‘Troubleshoot computer problem’ click on ‘View all’ on panel to the left. d) Open ‘Windows Update’ troubleshooter. Ok I've been on this for 2- 3 days now with NO answers OTHER THAN GET THE NEW WINDOWS 8 FASTER BETTER. I get error code 80070002 downloaded readyness tool 3x searched help center, ran trouble shooter till I'm blue, purple. green red and so on so on, got the "MICROSOFT DEBUGGING SYMBOL TOOL" which was NOT RESPONDING for 5 min then got copying new files which was USELESS waiting for same code 80070002 then I ran hotfix for the KB947821 (I think. which told me "UPDATES BEING INSTALLED" ONLY ONCE AGAIN TO GET "F" in errror code 80070002 did an ADMINISTRATOR delete on updates , turning OFF virues protection, fire wall and what ever the heck it told me. ran the same thing as above only to long and behold the imphamise "ERROR CODE 70080002" TO COME AND POP UP again ( now I see why my brothers and sister swear on the Apple product). I've spent More money from Win3.1 ,win98,win2000, winxp,win7, oh and now you got sell me WIN8 CAUSE IT'S BETTER,FASTER. can ANYBODY REALY FIX A WINDOWS PRODUCT OR DOES mr Gates need my 139.95 for the next Win product. IT"S error code 80070002 and solutions can find me ALL other ones but no real solution for this error. What next step Delete all start from scratch don't download anything that's not made from Microsoft? I ran sfc/scannow as suggested in my previous post and found a file it could not fix: 2013-03-03 11:26:35, Info CSI 000001fd [sR] Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:46{23}]"??C:WindowsSystem32"[l:22{11}]"autochk.exe"; source file in store is also corrupted Since both the working file and the source are corrupted, where can I get an un-corrupted version of "autochk.exe" and how do I go about replacing this one? hi, ie tells me that zone alarm is me default browser and search. I uninalled zone alarm sometime ago and want tnothing to do with it. I have been using ie as my browser evr since, but, upon reinsstalling ie today, it tells me that zone alarm is still running, but I can't find it. It is not in the control panel anywhere. I received a prompt dialog box while playing farmville on facebook saying: Microsoft Antivirus has found critical process activity on your PC. You need to clean your computer to prevent the system breakageThis box included an "OK" button.
