This all seem to start happening to me after doing a windows update. asus mb 12g memory nvidia video card had gtx250 and upgraded to gtx 650 TI corsair H60 water cooler 850w power supply no heat issues as I have run monitors and everything is in the green I dont overclock I keep my machine clean, and it room tempt is cool all my devices an motherboard have latest drivers I have not done microsoft updates becuase of so many past issues that I have had as it seems to always cause problems. Because there was a reason that I was kinda forced to do the updates, the same day I started getting that display error with my gtx250 card. I thought my card was going bad since it was a couple years old and replaced it with a gtx 650 TI and I continued to get that error. Usually if i dont move the mouse for awhile or scroll anything on a screen it will just set there, but if i move something i get the error. I have done a complete re-install an even without the updates I continue to get this error message. I have talked to some local computer business and some good computer friends and they have started getting this same issue. Most of them that I talk to run win7 x64, and most of them started having this problem after windows 8 was released and after they had done a update for the system. To remove more doubt, I have loaded a couple of other operating systems and booted from them and I have not seen the problem. I will admit that I didnt run these others for more then a couple hours, but i never had an error. This would seem to show that my hardware is good and the problem is with an update that microsoft has released. I run win7 x64 for a long time and never had this problem untill the end of last year and now it is like having malware from microsoft. thank you for any additional ideas to resolve this issue without having to turn everything off so it will work. I am running win7, 64 bit version. I cannot download/install service pack 1. When I use auto windows update, all the other upgrades will install except for the service pack. When I first attempted to install, a box would state that 53% of 87.2 mb had downloaded and when it would just start to try to install, an error message would pop-up, stating it didn't install (error # 80004005). I ran the microsoft self fix and also troubershooting programs and now 99% of service pack will download and attempt to install, again without success. I have downloaded entire service pack onto my desktop and it also will not completely install, it looks like its going too but doesn't, same error code appears (80004005). I used microsoft's chat and was directed to use same troubershooting programs that I have already used without success. I read on a Forum yesterday something about too many network pipelines (max of 14, default # 8), I went into registery and mine has 14, kept it that way and afterwards changed it to 8 but either way it didn't work.Microsoft wants $99 to attempt to fix, my friend is having the exact same problem so it's not just something in my computer having a conflict. One thing I didn't understand when performing registry check to see if pipelines were no higher than 14 is the person who wrote post in Forum mentioned after checking for up to 14, click Decima I option and click ok, didn't understand how to do. I would appreciate any info from anyone that can help, I have no idea where to go from here... Thanks View this thread

I have had a strange issue starting about 4-5 days ago. My system will restart while swapping windows with alt+tab or if i go from one monitor to the other.I have run several stress tests on the hardware to rule out hardware failure (everything came back with flying colors) swapped my new ssd (had it up and running for about a month) with an old HDD and the problem was repeatable. I have updated all the drivers for the video card (470GTX) and stress tested the hard and power supply to make sure that that was not the issue. Kept both under load for about an hour with no issues. I have even killed the second monitor and run only one and can still make the system reboot by hitting alt+tab. As long as I dont alt+tab or swap windows I dont encounter the error. I have checked the system logs and nothing is popping up, i get a critical from the restart stating that windows was not shutdown properly but I dont get any other errors within the time frame of the error +/- 2-3min.AVG and my other malware software is up to date and I have had no new installs but a few windows updates. I have checked the temps of the system, they seem to be in normal operation and don't spike to high to cause a shutdown. I am quite stumped on the fix, I have looked through the forms and for answers and the only one that fixed the same problem said he copied the explorer.exe file to the sys32 folder. I tried this as well and it didn't fix the issue for me. Anyone have any ideas? Or if you need any info or dxdiag files just let me know. View this thread

I've installed Windows 8 from DVD packed with new laptop. After that, checked windows updates. It said, around 35 important updates are to be installed in size of 500MB. After installing all updates free disk space decreased 5GB! It's too much, I think. I've run disk cleanup cleaning unnecessaty update files but only few hundred MBs were released. The folder C:Winndows biw comprises 19.2GB. Were there updates in size of 5GB really or how can I free up unnecessarily consumed disk space? View this thread

Hi can I remove windows 8 which came with my laptop & replace it for an earlier version as it's the worst O.S. I have ever used. Apps are O.K. for phones & ipads but not for a laptop or P.C. it simply is useless, when you finish with something for example Skype you have no way to close it & if you go anywhere near the edge of the screen whatever you were using before pops up, it's infuriating to say the least, & trying to find anything is horrendous, why get rid of the start on the taskbar, madness. google chrome you can not minimise or maximise or drop to taskbar only exit. It won't install certain updates & continually crashes. All in all a disaster & one I want rid of. View this thread

Not yesterday was I playing with my PCDJ Red Mobile 2 software on my Windows 8 laptop. Now it won't even load. I have tried to change setting, etc. But wound up putting it back to what was recommended. I recall there were a couple of updates Windows made and I had to restart it. I don't know if those updates affected the software. Can you help? View this thread

My system had 5 hard rives in it. I purchased a couple of new hard drives to increase storage capacity and performance. During the process of installing them and moving files around and for no apparent reason, one of the WD 1TB hard drives changed its configuration from normal to EISA. Of course, I could no longer access this drive using explorer and was forced to kill the partition and reformat the hard drive. How does this happen and how can the configuration be changed back so that one doesn't have to loose all the files on the hard drive. If windows can arbitrarily configure it for EISA there should be a way to change it back.Dalton Seymour View this thread

I hate to be stupid, but I need a question answered. I already have Security Essentials installed on my computer. It is set to scan at a certain time each week. What I want to know, is this: If my computer is set to the Standby Mode, will it be able to scan? Or do I need to leave my computer on when it is set to scan. Thanks for any help that I can get. I purchased a new Gateway desktop with Widows 8 but I didn't realize that it was designed for a touchscreen and I don't have one. I hate it and want to go back to Win 7. What is the best way to do that? Microsoft said call Gateway, Gateway said to call where I bought it and TigerDirect said to call Microsoft. How's that for passing the buck? I tried a Win 7 shell but it's not the same. Any ideas? View this thread

When it tries to search for updates, the search process goes on and on, and you can't cancel or close the window; ie, it's effectively frozen. Even task Manager can't end the process! When I tried to restart, then the restart process got stuck, had to do a Force Quit! Tried to change the style of receiving update from Automatic to Choose, and that process froze too!!! A real pain, I may bail on this laptop and go back to a Win 7. Any ideas? View this thread

I have a new windows 8 64 bit system on a new HP Pavilon g6 laptop with Norton Internet Security installed and activated. I want to remove the Norton software and use Windows Defender. I can find no switch to turn off the Norton software. Do I need to turn Norton Internet Security off before I uninstall it and use the Norton clean-up tool? If so, how can I get it turned off??
