I'm using Windows 8 on Dell XPS 12 convertible. "Windows Defender can not be updated for some unknown reason. the message reads: "Windows defender couldn't download definition updates. This migfht be caused by a missing system file, an incorrect system setting, or a problem with a registry file" I've tried everything from different threads including http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/windows-error-code-8024402f-windows-update/d675d686-277d-4fcb-a588-229aa36bedc5 but still problem persisting. I tried to update manually, but it returns NSIS error of currupt file. When I tried to update windows defender through windows update, it is downloading 100% but suddenly returns the following error: Code 80246002 Windows update ran into a problem Can someone please help? There are some updates that are not installing to my computer, they either download but fail to install or don't download at all. I am running Windows 8 x64 and I'm getting an error SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION that forces my computer to restart but the problem is not fixed. However, there are no files in the C:WindowsMinidump directory to upload so you can check it for me. What can I do? Also, there aren't any updates available for my sound card therefore my speakers and headphones are separated hence I have to switch them manually, any suggestions? View this thread

Alright, I bought my laptop on boxing day last year, and this isn't the first time this has happened, and hour or so it will blue screen of death, I've rebooted 4 times now, and it's doing it again! It stopped for a month or two, but it's starting again. This is ridiculous! There never even seems to be any problems at the time! View this thread

installed Windows server 2008 R2 SP1 64-bits and want to analyze user defined characters for which I got EUDC.TTE file. I placed it in Windows/Fonts folder and now when I tried to find eudcedit.exe for which usually should be in Windows/System32 folder is not present. So i cannot proceed in my investigation for these user defined characters. The actual issue is printing these characters though our application, which am investigating. View this thread

When I select 'Progams,' 'Accessories,' and 'Activate Windows,' the system tells me windows is activated. However, Microsoft Security Essentials continues to display that Windows (XP Pro) is not validated and that I have 30 days to validate it. I keep seeing this message (4-5 times a week) even after repetedly updating or scanning with MSE. My security system is set to receive Automatic Updates, but I have received none in over two weeks. I am also unable to download updates from Adobe PDF, Flash, the latest version of LibreOffice -which keeps alerting me to the update, but then won't download it- and my Outlook contacts (formely Hotmail) will not display. Any help here? View this thread

Is anyone at Microsoft listening? This sums Windows 8 and your useless hardware to a tee (and it's actually pretty constructive...) http://www.loopinsight.com/2013/01/04/windows-8-review-the-thing-blows/ Surface RT was a failure... Surface Pro is a failure... Windows 8 is beyond a failure (Microsofts ultimate demise...shockingly bad that no-one in Microsoft had the balls to say this was a pile of ****.) Why aren't there mass sackings at Microsoft? Sinofsky wasn't alone..... Other spineless 'Yes men/women' were equally to blame.... View this thread

I am trying to get Windows updates, and when I search for them from the control panel, I get the 80070002 error. I am running Windows 7 64-bit. I have Trend Micro as my anti-virus software. I am able to connect to the intenet. I've tried some possible solutions described in many of the message threads here including the following: 1) Running the troubleshooter from here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter This actually made 2 changes but did not fix the problem 2) Ran all of the steps from this article to clean up temporary files http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Windows-Update-error-80070002 Did not fix the problem. 3) The steps listed in this article Error message when you try to use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates: "0x8024D007" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956701/en-us I tried Method 1 (registering the Windows Update files) - did not fix problem. Then tried Method 2 (Downloading and installing the Windows Update agent). I got an error when trying to install Microsoft Fix It. 4) The steps in this article: Error message when you use the Windows Update Web site or Microsoft Update Web site to install updates: "0x80070002" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956698 Method 1: Run the System Update Readiness Tool (checksur.exe). I downloaded and installed the x64-based version for Windows 7. This installed Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) - no luck here. Method 2: Rename the Windows Update Download Folder (there are no steps for Windows 7 fix here; I used Windows Vista steps). I followed all of these steps to rename the folder, but still am unable to check for updates. That's all I could find as far as potential solutions but I had no luck with any of these. Anyone have anymore ideas??? Thanks! View this thread

I just received a call from someone who says they are calling from Microsoft and it sounded like they were calling from India. They told me they are getting error & warning messages, many of them, and had me go to my computer management on the computer where it displayed over 10,000 error messages going back from 2009 when I bought the computer. He told me that I need to renew my license security for $120 to fix the problem. Is there real? View this thread

Extremely frustrated here and don't really know all this technical stuff. I have not been able to do any updates, now totaling 9! They are as follows: KB2789642 - Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 KB2760416 - Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites KB2760574 - Security Update for Office 2003 KB2760497 - Security Update for Word 2003 KB2742595 - Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 KB2697499 - Security Update for Microsoft Office suites KB2767887 - Update for Outlook 2003 Junk E-Mail Filter KB2736428 - Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 KB2726929 - Security Update for Office 2003 I have tried everything I know of. I done the Fix It, various repairs that were suggested by MS and can't get anything to update. When I ran the Fix It and updates didn't install the program had me do a diagnostic repair. That failed and just had me send it all on to MS. Through the entire process of trying to fix it all I get the same error message over and over again - msiexec.exe and all it wants me to do is send it on to MS. Last year I had problems with the .NET Framework (can't remember which one) but it was so bad that I finally paid an MS tech $99 to repair it. It took him 2 days with him having control of my computer. After that fix it updated a few times and since then nothing will update and more and more updates are piling up. I'm totally frustrated and have no idea which way to turn. I was going to have a tech do this again for me but now MS wants $259 before you can even chat with them!!!! That is outrageous!!! I am running Norton 360 Premium Edition as my anti-virus program. Have never had any other anti-virus programs installed on this computer. HELP ME PLEASE! View this thread
