I must have switched Defender off by mistake. I have tried the All-App from Start screen and I have tried security in Action Centre; all I get is a message saying that Defender is switched off and some other program is in its place. I must be doing something wrong, I have also tried following the instructions on Windows Help page only to get the same reply View this thread

Hi,I bought a Windows 8 Professional (Upgrade) DVD format with a 32 and a 64 disk I upgraded my PC from Windows XP 32 bit to Windows 8 32 bit. However, I now want to install the 64 bit Version, my processor is x64 and I want to have all 32 of my GB of RAM usable. When I inserted the Windows 8 Upgrade (64 bit ) I got a error message that said the my system is currently 32 bit and that i can’t use that install dvd to insert the other one. Is There a way to upgrade from Windows 8 32 bit to 64bit? View this thread

Everytime I install updates, my computer won't start properly so I have to go to system restore: a huge waste of time. I'm on Vista and am currently refusing to install offered updates. Eventually, the pressure to install becomes too great (deemed as vital, essential etc). My computer will not restart, I have to switch it off and that generates start up repair which always goes back to a point before the updates to make it work. CRAZY! View this thread

I have a customer running Windows 7 Pro SP1. Windows update is continually offering two updates, Internet Explorer 9 and KB2799494, but both are already installed. IE 9 fails to install with error code 9C48, KB2799494 installs correctly again and again. The System Event Log and Reliability Monitor indicate that the problem started on 13th December the day after the computer suffered a disruptive shutdown. The following day around eight updates failed to install and were continually re-offered. Over time the number appears to have reduced leaving the two that are currently proving problematical. I have followed the instructions in KB910339 "Windows Update Or Microsoft Update Continually Offers The Same Update" as follows: Run the "Automatically diagnose and fix common problems with Windows Update" Fixit with security software disabled - no problems found. Run the Fixit to reset Windows Update with security software disabled - this found and corrected a corruption problem with the database and reset Windows Update (I didn't restart the computer before running Windows Update again as it didn't ask me to). Virus scanned the computer with Norton and Trend Micro - nothing found. The customer still has the problem and any additional suggestions would be welcome. View this thread

I restarted my computer to get the updates, it started to update and completed up to 9 of 14. now its not going forward any more. it stuck at 9 of 14. don't know what to do. cant use the machine at all. Since I have upgraded to windows 8 pro i have been having lots of problems for one lots of my games do not run and never plan to, however this is my biggest problem. The worst problem is that half my files have been deleted mixed around and pulled apart! This means that I no longer have any Microsoft office (which weren't free!) and I also lost windows media player this is a real annoyance because until I get it back I can't watch any films or listen to music, I looked at the microsoft website and it said I can get media player back through the store app, no, I can't. I spent quite a while on the store app looking for this app and could not find it. The worst part of all this is that microsofts support is the worst! I can not find anything useful and the only way a can see to contact them is to do a live chat with them, i don't want to live chat! I cannot see any phone number, email address or further way to personally contact the microsoft team. Other problems: Printers won't connect, WiFi drops out, computer randomly shuts down without warning, apps close a minute after being opened been forced to download skype app instead of skype, and the skype app is terrible it goes through no matter what I am doing and it only shows me if people are set to online if they are set to busy,away or anything else it counts them as offline I finally got skype on my desktop but the skype app still overrides it I cannot turn out log out or shut down the skype app... my keys randomaly swap around e.g i am having to shift click 2 to get @ instead of shift clicking "' lots of external devices won't connect screen will not flip around ( i have the dell inspiron duo, which is a touch screen tablet and keyboard computer) It is impossible to search anything I didn't get my "40 pound free to shop" with pro, and more. The first problem is: I am unable to use either Bluetooth devices nor Card reader in my laptop. I have tried finding suitable driver from the manufacturer's site (Dell) but have not been able to find for both. Can anyone suggest how to get the same? Second problem is : I am getting a message as " Windows update available, Log-in to update the same" but when I am logging in to the system and clicking on Windows update or check for updates, I am not getting any available update for updating. Repaired .NET Framework 4.0, tried the Windows Update troubleshooting download, also used the .NET Framework cleanup tool and reinstalled the .NET Framework 1.1, 1.1 SP1 and 4.0 Client Profile - the update still fails. This is the only update that will not install (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS). I also have a Windows XP SP3 32 bit computer and a Windows Vista Home Premiun 32 bit computer that this update successfully installed on. Last update for XML 4.0 SP3 was KB2721691 on 8-29-2012. On Windows Update 36 "important updates" are shown as being available. Click INSTALL and each one succeeds, and Update shows 36 updates successfully installed, and says system must be restarted. Click RESTART NOW, and on the way down see "Configuring updates, do not turn off". On the way back up see "Configuring updates, do not turn off"; it gets to 15%, then see "Configuration failed, Reverting all updates". System goes down and up again, and 36 updates remian available. I have already tried the Fixit Tool, which says it diagnosed and fixed the problem ("Fixed Update Components"), but problem remains. View this thread

I have an HP 2000-bf69WM running windows 8 64 bit and ever since the last set of windows updates this error has been coming up and telling me that my computer encountered an error and needs to restart and it seems like it is very random it just happens when ever and is getting more frequent. It started about 2 days ago. I have updated the video driver which was a suggestion on the HP forums and still it is happening. A quick search seems to show that it is not just HP computers having the problem it is others as well. It is very annoying and is almost making my laptop unusable. I support 16 laptops all running Windows 7 Pro. Updates take a lot of time and bandwidth. Is there a way to download these updates to a flashdrive then install them on the individual laptops. The above mentioned error always comes up every time I try to download Mircosoft Security Essentials. I had to uninstall the one I had on my computer because a message would come up that said it couldn't be opened. So I thought I would uninstall it and then come to Microsoft to reinstall and now it won't do it. Please help! It was recommended that I download Windows Security Essentials, a free virus and firewall protection from Microsoft. Every time I try to download it, I get a 404 server error. I had to delete my previous antivirus in order to download, but now I'm stuck. I also get a lot of "error on page" messages at the lower left corner. Is Microsoft files correupted? View this thread

Hi all, This is clearly a dated upgrade for me to be making, but I need Vista SP2 in order to use an Easy Transfer cable. I have been trying to get an old HP PC running 32-bit Vista Home Premium to SP1 first, but have always encountered this error. I already ran the update readiness tool, which "successfully" scanned and fixed up the issue - but it didn't. I ran sfc /scannow several times and noticed a recurring error regarding a certain EucrosiaUPC font, which I couldn't even find in my Fonts folder. Could it be this corrupted file preventing my update? In addition I've tried installing from Windows Update and 2 different standalone installers, to no avail. Thanks in advance View this thread

After upgrading to Win 8 from Win 7 Pro x64 back in Dec 2012, I have been installing updates as they become available. Attempting to keep the process chronological. I was down to the last 6 updates (as of 21 Feb 2013). KB2267602 installed well. System restarted normally. When I then attempted KB2779768, it took a long time, and then rebooted, and rebooted again. The system then came up as if I had just freshly installed Win 8. It asked for my activation key. All my installed apps were gone. There was no option to do a restore point back to a known good state, prior to this latest update attempt. When updates have failed in the past, I was able to revert to a previous good state using "restore Point" I do not know what to do to remove this update and return to a stable OS condition. I recently installed my HP desktop with windows 7 (was running Vista w/ svc pak 2) Everything seems to be working fine but when I come back to my computer after being away for awhile it will be completely powered off (the monitor will be on but in sleep mode). When I try to restart I get nothing. I unplug the power source from the wall, wait 10 seconds and plug back in. Only after doing this will the power on the tower boot back up. I have tried all I can thing of and time after time after I am finsished with my session and leave the computer it powers off while away. I did recently install a new video card before I updated and I bought drive boost which reports back to me that my AMD Radon drivers need updated...is this where the problem is? If so I am having trouble figuring out how to install my drives properly. If I unistall the current drive all my graphics change and I lose connection w/ my monitor and it goes into sleep mode...please help. Thank You. View this thread

just installed XP Home on a computer, and having some issues.used a SP2 disk, then immediately installed the SP3 update. then, installed the IE8 .exe from Microsoft's site. after that, connected to Windows update and DLed everything until was fully updated and there was no more updates.well, it seems a bit weird. one of the services is named wrong. the "Human Interface Devices" service is still called "HID", when it should be the former since SP3 should have changed the name. and, some updates seem to be missing from the add/remove. it just doesnt add up when comparing it to another computer that has XP SP3 fully up to date. for example, IE8 only has 3 security updates listed (compared to my other computer's 12 or so updates), unless is that because installed it with the .exe file and it already included most updates?just a bit worried. want to make sure my computer is fully updated and there isnt any problems going on.
