The system has all current updates for SP-1, yet the refresh pk for Media player 12 will not install. the message states that this is the wrong version for this machine. Yet this is a 64bit Win 7 Home Premium OS system. what is necessary to resolve?Thanks View this thread

I bought my new HP PC w/Windows 8 in November. For no apparent reason, it started crashing 3-6 times a day last week, going to a blue screen that says System_Service_Exception. My McAfee software is constantly scanning for viruses, worms, etc., so I don't think that's the problem. I am not an IT professional; can someone explain in layman's terms how to fix this? Thank you. I recently bought a new laptop which came pre-loaded with Win 7 Home. I immediately upgraded ti Win 8 Professional and have had nothing but trouble ever since! The main source of the problem seems to be this one Windows security upgrade which fails to install time and time again. The details are: Upgrade - kb2753842 Error code - 80073712 I rang my laptop supplier who put me on to Samsung and they advised a complete system restore, followed by re-loading Win 8 (and I presume Office as well). I'm loathe to go down that route and wondered if anyone can tell me what to do? I've tried manually installing the upgrade from Control Panel but that doesn't work either. What is this anyway? Internet Explorer or Microsoft seem to have a downloading problem. Maybe server related? I don't know. They seem to have a problem. Will it be a good idea if I should contact? Hi, For several days I have tried to correct and repair error 80070490 for windows update. No luck. Microsoft Fixit and Hotfix tools have bee run and both tell me that Update components have been repaired. Still does not work ! - Window s update location has been changed and must be repaired - is still required. Update files indicates that no updates have been downloaded and the check for updates is not responding. It worked so well until a few days ago I have no recovery disc with Vista and pc refuses to perform a system restore to a backup. So what would be the next step ?? My PC got infected with a malware (ms32trayX.exe) in January. Microsoft Security Essentials did not report the infection, however I identified and removed it using Malwarebytes (free anti-malware software). What can I do to further protect my PC from infections of this type? Please note that I have the latest Microsoft Security Essentials definitions installed. View this thread

I use Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 9. Thanks to a recent Adobe update I now have the following Trojan infections: Trojan:DOS/Alureon.A Trojan:Win64/Alureon Trojan:Win32/Tracur.Av Trojan"Win32/Meredrop Even though MSE Prerelease states that they removed these Trojan viruses it states that to complete the process I need to download and run Windows Defender Offline. When you click the download now button the site is not found. Every time I scan and remove these Trojans it deletes my dial up connection and it needs to be reinstalled. Prior to these infections MSE Prerelease has never quarantined or detected any other items since install on my computer. SuperAntiSpyware scan finds nothing other than cookies from sites visited. I had to reboot my and after the auto updates ran it will not restart. When I restart it gives me the message "launch startup repair recommended" then it says it is loading windows files and then the screen just goes blank. I have tried holding the F8 key down on restart but when I do I get a bell ringing that will not stop. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how I might fix it? View this thread

Compaq Mini on XP Home SP3, 896 Mb Ram memory I was unable to install KB2742597 and following suggestions on the net used dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip. First, in order to install Vodafone Internet dongle (as I was travelling) it installed .Net Frame 2.0. Later I installed the 4.00 installer from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718&ppud=4 and spent a whole day doing MS updates. Finally I seem to have reconstructed the original :Net versions: 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.00 and a new one 4.00 extended, along with Portuguese language. Even though the original KB2742597 ended up installing, now, I cannot install KB928416 (error 0x13EC) and KB2468871 (error 0x643). I have tried all methods given in MS pages including Mr Fixit and nothing works. help!!! qim View this thread

Hi, OS: Windows 7 Professional Recently, my windows update was not working, and the issue was sorted out by some of the troubleshooting I did. However, in the process i uninstalled the Microsoft Update Option, to get updates for other Microsoft products, using the Windows Update Agent. My Windows Update currently lists on the main Page - "You receive updates: For Windows Only" When I try to bring back this option, by clicking on the Link "Find out more" on the Windows Update main screen, at the bottom next to the text "Get Updates for other Microsoft products" http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70156 I am directed to the Microsoft Update Webpage, http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx but I am not given the option to accept any terms to install this component. Instead, I am directed to go to windows update, using the Start Menu on my PC. My question is, how do I restore the Microsoft Update Option that I previously had working through Windows Update? I am running Windows XP SP3. All updates are current. Earlier this week I received notification of 16 Office updates identified as critical. I downloaded and attempted to install. All updates error off with error code 0x700. I have spent the week running every conceivable solution offfered with no success. The common fix is to run Windows FixIt and I have run it to death. It always says a repair has been done and to try again. Windows update just won't complete successfully. The update process progress bar seems to indicate the update process is at the end of the installation when the systems indicates the updsate failed with this error code. The first of the 16 updates is Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2002 (KB2293422) but the problem is not unique to this update. The other 15 error off with the same error code. Can anyone offer a solution to this before I physically take this box and throw it from the rooftop? I have wasted a week on this and the frustration level is sky high. View this thread

Installed the latest Windows 7 update on my laptop. Got a message saying one bit didn't install properly. At the same time the left hand mouse button stopped working. Can only control the cursor by clicking with the right mouse and pressing enter - which has limited effectiveness. Tried system restore and it all worked again - but after foolishly reloading the update - the problem returned. Cannot now restore back to where I was. Can anyone help? Thanks. View this thread
