I have a very peculiar problem with my mom's computer which she purchased from a major retailer and had Windows 7 pre-installed. It's a HP / Compaq Presario CQ57. Now if I was there when she purchased the computer I would have warned her to stay away from anything HP or Compaq but that's what she got. No wonder these companies are going defunct. I went into the system properties and the Windows is activated but every once in a while the computer says that the Windows is not genuine. I checked the computers Update history and it hasn't downloaded a single update since the day it was purchased. Whenever I try to use Windows Update it says that it must download the new updater but in the process of getting an error code of 8000FFFF which makes no sense at all. I've tried the Windows Fix it, didn't work but I think that since the computer thinks that the Windows isn't genuine that it's preventing it from downloading updates. When I click the link on the page when I get the warning that the windows isn't genuine it doesn't even give me a chance to verify the computers license. Is there a way to run a program to go thru this process manually. View this thread

Until now I had no problems with Windows Update (I am using Windows XP Professional). My last update ended in the following situation: The update process shows the successful installation of KB2742595, KB2742596, KB2736416, KB2736428, KB2737019, KB2737019, KB2729449, KB2604111, KB2604092, KB2604110, KB2656407, KB2604121. I started Windows Update one more time. Now, these updates are shown again "downloaded and ready for installation". I tried Microsoft Fix it center - no problems are reported. I repeated the installation of the updates 2 or 3 times. Windows Update allways shows the updates again "downloaded and ready for installation". View this thread

Windows 8 updated with KB2750149 on 1/29/13 and since that time Outlook 2003 is unable to send or receive emails. Set up check shows all connections and settings working, but download runs so slow that after 10 minutes it can't complete even one small email. Its not our internet because we have two other Windows 7 machines running the same programs with no problem. Any ideas? Should we uninstall that update? View this thread

A Chinese hacker has taken over my computer. He posted the program he used to gain control of my computer on a social website for artists called Douban. He received several million "likes". I feel very violated. The website has been shut down before, in the past, by the Chinese government for breaking laws...regarding ****, I believe. Is there anything our government can do ...is this a federal violation, or do I just need to get rid of the worm, and hope my life isn't destroyed? I used a translator to figure out what was going on with him. And his friends. Yes, I stalked them. They had cool sites ... as sad as I was that he had hacked me, I didn't mind stealing pearls of wisdom from some of his friends. How twisted is that? They were very smart and artistic. He keeps my C Drive filled up to the hilt. I can't do anything on my computer. He is the administrator of everything now. I can't do anything with my computer. I try to download my photos to a portable hard drive, but I can't open them. They are corrupt. I don't know what to do. This is only one of my problems. Before him, I also have been dealing with spyware on my computer. I just found my Chinese hacker by accident in the many months of trying to find who has the spyware on my computer. And on my cellphone. Isn't there a law that protects women? My iphone is basically useless now. It only lets me send and receive to a choice list of a very few people. I can't move or delete programs or pictures. I don't have control of it. I'd like to turn my cell phone and my computer both in to someone who can help me. I'd like to have my cyber privacy back. Whenever Windows Update attempts to install these two updates I get the above error codes. I have attempted to run FixIt, and each time it reports that "One or more Windows Update compontents are configured incorrectly", but even though the components are "repaired", the updates do not install. MS Installer has been giving me installation errors ever since, whenever I attempt to run any Office applications. I would guess that they are both related to the same root cause. View this thread

Hi I have uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft Security Essentials but it will not run. It starts momentarily but then disappears. I am unable to run a scan as I cannto get it open. As of the same time my Internet Explorerer has started redirecting to random websites whenever I 'open in new tab or window'. Has anyone come across this and have an idea on how to fix it. I have a photo program. The program is missing services pack 3. I go down and load 7 it loads some times. It works for a while. This used to down load photos from camera. It worked fine in windows 7 and XP. I"m sure there other that need it. . It loads some times . Could you set up a program. View this thread

I can't the find the fix for this. "Fix it" doesn't work nor any other tool on the MS website. I've tried many suggestions, startinga nd stoping Update and removing files in Software Distribution folder, etc., etc. etc. I remember getting something a couple years ago when this happened and fixed it.
