my system has crashed and will not start windows 7. this all started after i did a windows update. now when i try and start all i get is a message that windows 7 cannot start. when i go through all computer tests they all result in a passed test response. when i try a restore my system i get a message that the restore did not complete successfully because there was an unspecified error during system restore (0x8000ffff). any suggestions? Will MS fix the Updates Failure Problem and File Explorer Crashing? Too many Windows 8 users are experiencing “windows update” failures. KB2770917 KB2779768 I have been searching for user fixes and the suggested fixes do not work. MS does not seem to be resolving the problem. Win 8 is going the way of Vista and Win 98 as failures due to the lack of help from MS. I believe the constant file explorer crash is fixed in one of the updates that cannot install. If MS is going to address this, I would like to know. Otherwise, I need to reinstall win 7 as a stable OS. View this thread

I bout a gateway laptop about a year ago and it came with windows 7 programmed on it. I forgot to register the serial number in the six months i was suppose to. i began receiving message that this version of windows may not be genuine. i get it at least twice its a bit annoying. Over the past two days I have been swamped with every kind of virus know to man. I have run Defender and it has found several. I continued to experience problems so I downloaded Microsoft Essentials and it discovered six which were removed. However, I cannot turn on real time protection for some reason so my computer is virtually unprotected. During the course of fighting with all this, my speaker set up flashed on the screen just before everything went crazy so now my speakers don't work. In addition, I was forced to provide information from my modem in order to access the Internet so I believe my Internet connection has been jeopardized. I was also unable to access google = there was just a silly file saying there was a error and t"thats all we know". There is now a "thing" embedded in you tube which will lead to a fake google site. The source code for that site is full of Java stuff. I know there has been a problem with Java and I have removed it from my computer but apparently I have become a victim anyway. can i update windows 8 in my laptop which is 1-2 month old. someone told me if i update this i lose its genuinity because i have no product key of my OS. They just give some recovery disk when i bought it. Is it true? Running Windows 8 I am consistently getting these errors whenever I try to Update. I have tried various suggested solutions from these pages but none have resolved the problem. I am not behind a proxy, I do not use any 3rd party Anti-Virus or Firewall software, Internet Explorer and Windows Firewall are set to their defaults.
