I am trying to install through Windows Update "Update for Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 KB2769166 which shown as an important update but it keeps failing and is driving me mad. I have been researching this, and have run the System Update Readiness Tool which shows that all is OK. I have also run the Windows Update Troubleshooter but still no help. All I can think of doing is to hide the update, but this is wrong as it is an important update. Why does it keep failing and how do I resolve the problem. I am using Windows 8 and all other updates are just fine. Keith View this thread

I received a update , for windows 8 for x64 based systems (KB2771431). When I try to install it error code comes up, 800F081F. I have yet to find a fix . Can some one help me please. View this thread

Hello, I'm having issues with windows update...I cannot check for updates or install updates. When attempting to perform either of these I am prompted that the system administrator has to make changes to my computer. The problem is, I am the SA and I am logged in as such. Please help. We recently purchased a computer (Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430) with Windows 7 through NewEgg. When I have tried to perform Windows Updates, it always comes up with around 54 failures. The errors found lists: Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error. -Windows can't update important files and services while the system is using them. Save any open files, and then restart the computer. Is there any way to see what files/services they are so that I can try to stop them from running and perform the updates? Or do we think this computer is messed up and that I should send back? View this thread

Details: I had 80GB hard disk working last 6 years. OS was in this HD and was updating properly. Suddenly on 03/02/2013 its stopped functioning. So i bought a new 320GB HD, loaded OS Windows 7. Update KB2538242 keeps repeating when the machine is shutting down; it's the same update every time. At present I have 7 successful downloads for this update. Since this started about 2 weeks ago, I have not been able to download any other Windows updates, although I am sure that there are some new updates available.. I tried using the Trouble shooter for 0x80070002. a Potential Windows Update error, but the next time I shut the machine down, the update notice came back, and it is still with me. I had Win 7 Home Premium SP1 (32 bit) installed and working pretty well prior to my installing this ISO update. Recently downloaded the available Windows 7 ISO file to do a relatively clean update since my WMP had not been functioning correctly and I thought this type install might help. WMP was otherwise unable to function correctly. Install took 7 hours and now I can not boot into a normal mode. One error message says Blue Screen. I can boot into Safe mode from which I am writing this email. I receive BCCodes as messages and hope someone can guide me as to what next to do. After installing KB2592687, connections to a XP box will crash. It connects perfectly fine, but right after that, it crashes hard ("Remote Desktop Connection has stopped working...") The problem has existed ever since the update was release a while ago, and it still hasn't been fixed. Microsoft, shouldn't you have addressed this problem? I know I'm not the first one to report this problem. In the mean time, I'll advice everyone to disallow this update. Without it, RDP connections work just fine anyway. @Microsoft, please fix this. have been advised of 5 updates every day for the past few weeks which appear to be the same. Hello, I have recently purchased an ASUS Laptop preloaded with MS W7 Home Premium 64-bit. On receipt I have followed the initial setup process (set language, set date / time, wireless internet access, homegroup, etc.). I have NOT activated preloaded trial security software, or updated any maunfacturers drivers. I immediately created a repair disc, follwed by dvd recovery discs (4 off). Once completed I wanted to update Windows. This process is failing with error code 8024402c. I have searched the internet (using the IE Explorer 9 preinstalled) and attempted to do a number of things: 1 - run Windows Update troubleshooter - failed to download 2 - included http://*.update.microsoft.com, https://*.update.microsoft.com and http://download.windowsupdate.com in the exceptions list - after doing so and restarting the computer, the error code 8024402c persists. 3 - have follwed instruction to perform a 'clean boot' (disabling all services except MS services) - after doing so and restarting the computer, the error code 8024402c persists. 4 - checked c:windowssystem32driversetchosts - confirmed that all lines have been commented (#) out - after doing so and restarting the computer, the error code 8024402c persists. I have also followed the methods proposed in KB 2509997 as follows, with the results as noted. Method 1 - restart and try again - Windows Update result = same error code 8024402c Method 2 - system update readiness check - needed to turn off windows firewall to download the application - downloaded application then turned on windows firewall - ran download file Windows6.1-KB9477821-v25-x64.msu (install Hotfix for Windows) - the install (and presumably scan) completed without any reported errors - no errors detected in CheckSUR.log - Windows Update result = same error code 8024402c Method 3 - run SFC.exe - found corrupt files and was unable to fix - checked CBS.log - offending errors all for same file -- PINTLGB.IMD - google checking suggested that these files were not critical and could be ignored - Windows Update result = same error code 8024402c Method 4 - reset Catroot2 - completed per instructions - Windows Update result = same error code 8024402c Method 5 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINECOMPONENTS - this key is not present in regedit.exe - I searched for the listed keys PendingXmlIdentifier NextQueueEntryIndex AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving - none where found - Windows Update result = same error code 8024402c Method 6 - Register the Windows Update files - done per instructions - Windows Update result = same error code 8024402c Method 7 - no anti-virus programs have been activated - Windows Update result = not checked Method 8 - Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder - done per instructions - Windows Update result = same error code 8024402c Method 9 - Clear the BITS queue of any current jobs - done per instructions - Windows Update result = same error code 8024402c Method 10 - Download and manually install the 958056 update - there is no update history yet because no update has succeeded to this point - Windows Update result = not checked Method 11 - Rename Pending.xml - no file found - Windows Update result = not checked Method 12 - Run Chkdsk on the Windows partition - done per instructions - Windows Update result = same error code 8024402c Despite all of these supposed solutions, none has worked. I have this exact same situaion with a different laptop but running W7 Home Premium 32-bit. I was not so pedantic when I received the older laptop and have been searching for a solution for over 6 months (including some time ago in the forum). Having purchased a brand new laptop, having not activated any manufacturer installed software, and having NOT installed any other software of any kind, I was expecting that the original installation would succeed, and i would subsequently add software and check after every instance to identify the cause. It would now seem that the cause is related to Windows only.After all this, if I turn off Windows Firewall, Windows Updates operates effectively and I can also download software (bug fix) from the Microsoft support site. Microsoft recommends that Firewall is ON and that Windows Update is automatic - I want this to work that way please. The laptop is for my elderley father and I do not want him worried about these matters. Trying to find a solution has consumed inordinate time for me - at least 40+ hrs. I seek anyone's assistance. We have an ASP.NET 3.5 web app running on Windows Server 2003 IIS. When KB2742596 and KB2756918 got installed all WCF calls to services stopped working and give the error "System.InvalidProgramException Common Language Runtime detected an invalid program." I've found two workarounds - if we remove the patches the WCF calls work again. If we change IIS to say we are targeting the .NET 4 framework the calls work again. Too make things odder - this problem exists on two of our production servers, a cert server - but our development box with the patches installed still works fine. Any troubleshooting help would be greatly appreciated. View this thread

My Laptop is an Acer 5755G and I have owned it for one year running Windows 7 and MS Office 2010. During the last 3 months I noticed that the Firewall was not starting up eventhough the services andprocesses show that it has. I have purchased two software services to try an dresolve this and I fear that a virus or malware may be embedded into the Windows files. Hi.I work as a technician in a school, and we have a bunch of laptops that the students use that automatically restarted in the middle of lessons, with some disruption to the lesson.I know there is usually an option to delay the updates for 10 mins or 4 hours or whatever, but the students are not given this option as they don't have local admin creds (for obvious reasons).Any ideas for a way around this without giving them admin creds?
