The attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. An attacker must have valid logon credentials to exploit this vulnerability. The vulnerability could not be exploited by anonymous users. View this security bulletin

Windows Update auto-installed IE10 and on reboot I had a small window top left of screen showing the above message. This never cleared (even after 3 hours+) and eventually I had to boot in safe mode and do a restore. I know from threads in other forums I am not the only one to have seen this. Does anyone know the cause and the resolution? (I am running latest version of W7 Home Premium). Mike View this thread

I have just spent 2 weeks and $100 with MS technical support, through all levels! They were NOT ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHY: On 2 PCs i had IDENTICAL problems: Aero glass effects disappeared (MS fix-it says incompatible video card, GTX 590 signature) Calculator no longer works! Autocad 2010 or 2011 no longer function and crash immediately upon start! I had 2 PCs with the exact same issue; i called MS and requested Support for a $100 fee. They informed me it MUST be a virus, as it is affecting 2 PCs that are on the same network and both have disimilar hardware and programs. After 4 days of virus searching, they decided i do not have a virus. After another 10 days, yes 10 days of driver reconfig and anything else you can possibly imagine (besides rolling back updates, grrrr) the problem still existed! On the 10th day MS Level 2 support decided to have me (upgrade) my OS using my win 7 oem disc... FIXED! Oh but guess what.... Autocad, adobe, infact every single peice of software had to be re-activated! Windows had to be completely updated again. So tonight i decided to create restore point, update, and then check calculator. Create restore point, then Activate each program then check calculator. After several hours of this, BAM calculator stopped working, aero stopped working, and AUTOCAD! I had found it! I have 10 PCS on my network, most are used by kids and employees, who only let windows auto update, and NEVER install non-important updates, hence why only my 2 PCs had the problem! After a little cross referencing, not one single WORKING computer had KB2670838! So i un-install it, BINGO! Aero works, calculator works, and AUTOCAD works! HOW DOES MS LEVEL 2 TECH SUPPORT NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!! THIS UPDATE IS BROKEN REMOVE IT! View this thread

I DO NOT RECALL CANCELLING THESE, AS THEY WERE IMPORTANT SECURITY UPDATES. I WOULD LIKE TO INSTALL THEM NOW HOWEVER THERE IS NOT A 'RETRY' BUTTON AND I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. View this thread

Windows did an automatic update when I shut down my computer. When I restarted it has reverted to Greek language from English. Even though English is highlighted in Control Panel. Have tried deleting Greek as a choice, changing location to US. Is it possible that one of the updates caused this problem? HELP View this thread

I originally received error 0x80070643 when trying to update MSE on my computer. After trying all fixes and resorting to uninstalling MSE and trying to reinstall, I now get error 0x80070645. I have spent six hours trying every fix I have found on the Internet to no avail. I definitely do not have any traces of remaining 3rd party security software and I have made sure Windows installer is active and have also tried all other tricks including two different registry cleaners. I would really like to use MSE but my computer is currently unprotected and unless I can get a resolution quickly I will be forced to purchase Norton, McAfee or some other 3rd party software. I have waited about 20 minutes and nothing. How can I get around this to install IE-10. I ended up doing a system restore. Tried resetting IE-9, no good. I have SP-1 and all updates. No anti-virus other than Windows. Nothing plugged in except laptop cooler. Wireless Network at home. View this thread

I gave administrative rights to a bogus fix it program. I need to get control completely back and squelch those blood suckers. How do I do that? I have stopped the program in startup and have run everything I know how to do. They are still (or somebody else) throwing wrenches in my system. Any help is good help from anybody in the community, I am open to all suggestions. When I start task manager I see dllholst.exe which quickly disappears. I have checked out several of the processes and see that some are integral in the operating system but have also found that hackers have counterfeited some of these files like smss.exe and dwm.exe and csrss.exe and lsass.exe etc. etc. How can Microsoft being the HUGE company it is allow this to happen? Again "Any help"? Please help as I Hate Hackers! View this thread

I recently changed the hard drive on my Toshiba SatelliteC655 laptop. Since completing the system restore, Window update and the troubleshooter will not work. I tried completing a clean reboot, but that did not fix the problem. Any suggestions? My OS is Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit. View this thread

Hey AllA few days ago I decided to Update my nvidia drivers to the latest update (Its probably been about 4 months since last working update)Installation was fine and easy, I clean installed the new drivers and it all went well until I turned it off, for the recommended/Required RebootUpon Reboot my problems started, immediately it was clear Windows 7 wasn't loading, and after a minute it flicked to the options - Restart Windows - Startup RepairObviously restarting Windows lead me to the same screen, so i used startup repair, initally it found nothing so i used a system restore point and turning it back on again the computer worked as normal, obviously with the old nvidia drivers. This wasnt really an issue, but just today I allowed windows update to download and install its new updates, and bam. The entire process began again, the computer wouldnt start and then id have to use the same system restore point.Probably one of the most frustrating things out, especially that now even windows 7 updates are causing my computer to crash.Any response, regardless of trolling, would be appreciatedMany thanksAlec View this thread

Hello, After the recent Windows 8 update (week of April 1st), my music files' properties (or tags) of mapped folders that are managed by the "Libraries->Music" no longer the metadata. This worked before the latest Windows update MY FOLDER SETUP: ============= - Mapped a drive to Network drive (e.g. m:music) - Created soft link: "mklink /d C:music M:music" to a local local folder (c:music) Added C:music is managed by Libraries->Music (this works fine. I see all my files under the Library->Music) However, when Media Player starts (or Xbox Music), all music files (+5000 songs) are stored in the same UNKNOWN album. Here is a summary of my findings which seems to indicate a bug with Windows 8: SUMMARY OF MY RESEARCH (debugging): ============================ -When I click on a music file under the mapped directory (e.g. M:music<albumX><song>.wma), all the music file's properties (tags) are correctly displayed (e.g. Name of album, Genre, Artist, Year, etc. are all good) - When I click on the soft link that points to the mapped drive (c:music<albumX><song>.wma), all the music file's properties (tags) are correctly displayed (e.g. Name of album, Genre, Artist, Year, etc. are all good) -When I click on the "Libraries->Music<albumX><song>.wma", the music file's properties (tags) are empty. This would explain why Media Player or Xbox Music put all the 5000+ songs into one UNKNOWN album as they cannot find the tags to categorize the songs by albums/artist. Q: Why are the music files tags visible when selecting the mapped drive (m:music) or softlink (c:music) but not in the Library->Music? Again, this worked fine before the latest Windows update and before I upgraded Xbox Music from the app Store. Thank you in advance for your help! Cheers! Robert View this thread
