In December I purchased a new laptop with Windows 8 installed on it. It's worked fine, but I've noticed that I've not received any updates, for any Windows 8 apps I have installed on it, in at least a month. This includes things like the Mail and Maps apps, which I know have been updated in the last week or two. Why aren't I getting any upgrades to anything? View this thread

Hi, I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2. Recently Window update has stopped working (Windows could not search for new updates). Tried Fixit, SFC, SUR tool, deleting Software Distribution directory (after running AVS and spyware checks) and rebooting many times. Please can anyone offer any advice? There were some problems with SFC but not sure how they related to WU. I can post other logs if required. The problem did not seem to be related to any windows update. Many thanks in anticipation. I purchased 8 GB of memory and a 750 GB (ST750LX003) Seagate SSD Hybrid Drive. My system had Windows 7 32 bit, 4 GB memory and 320 GB drive. The 320 GB drive is in a separate USB case now and is in it's original state. I loaded Windows 7 Ultimate on the new drive, everything went smoothly. I downloaded the Lenovo software for drivers and updates, it all ran fine. Installed Office 2010 Professional. When it came time to run WIndows Update, I get the message with the error code. I also cannot load .NET 4.0 because of the same error code. Windows is authenticated and passes Microsoft Genuine Diagnostics, yet nothing changes- no update. I have also loaded Intel Chipset software people suggest- no difference. This has been the third day working on this off and on and it's getting tiresome. Give me suggesntion, please, I want to get this behind me. This machine is not a toy, it's a tool for my business. Thank you, in advance, for you kind assistance! View this thread

We have run microsft removal tool, spybot, superantispyware, ms defender, Malware bytes and found nothing. We cannot update the office file validation add in or either of the recommended updates 2632503 and 2492386. We have been able to run defender update 915597 and 2809289 cumulative for ie8. We have run the updater fixit tool in both std and agressive modes. We have run sfc /scannow. Have run the fix that reregisters the dll's & is named register.bat. I have run out of patience, links & caffeine. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated, I am missing something don't know what! Summary: I cannot install Windows 7 updates. Is the problem a missing “COMPONENTS” subkey in my registry (see below)? Help!!! I am running a licensed verified Windows 7 Professional OS on a Thinkpad w520. Avast is my security program. I have several problems updating 1. Windows 7 updating program tells me there are updates, shows a list, then runs but fails to install updates 2. I am notified regularly by other programs that there are updates and when I select “update” they fail do do anything. These include Java, Avast, and Thinkvantage programs. When I try to update Java I get a message: “The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable” and reports error 1714. I have read the document at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997[/color] titled “Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows I 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2” and have worked through Methods. In recent weeks, I've had a rash of customers, who've all had problems with Microsoft Windows Update across various versions of Windows. Presently, this particular customer is running Windows XP with MSE installed. Windows Update presents MSE update KB2804527 as an important update, but it fails. I've tried the recommendations I've found in the community, and I've tried to run the recommended "Fix It" tool on it, all without success. I will try to get a live support chat or phone support session going with Microsoft, but am posting this to the community to be a "good citizen", so to speak. :) Anyone solve this yet? What's going on with MSE updates? Why are they jamming so frequently across various platforms? Thanks, in advance. MJS View this thread

I continue to get error and failed reports on installing this from windows update. Error code 80070103, and I click to find answers but nothing allows me to actually download this. Is there a link or site to get this download? I use Windows 7. I probably messed it up when I installed windows 8 without properly saving data prior to installing. I reverted back to 7 because my pc was so messed up. Thanks if anyone can help!!! View this thread

Had to do a complete system recovery on my Laptop, windows home premium. After clean up went to get the updates, there are 2 issues trying to resolve. First is there are updates that failed for Net Framawork 3.5.1, Checked and Framework 4.0 is on the PC, so is there really a need for these updates, may be the reason they failed ? Error code was 800F0902. Then some earlier updates on 3/30 failed, and later updates on 3/31 failed, some of these were security updates, others updates for Windows7, one ex. is KB2491683. I know the updates were recommended, none optional, but concern is putting them in after later updates and if they are actually required. The error codes were 800242016,800F0816 and 800F0902, none of which were listed in error help. I just uninstalled one of the failed updates figuring, I could do this with all the failed updates, it would then re-appear as a update to install but does not appear. So then is it a correct assumption that it is not needed, if needed then how do I get the update back in ?? View this thread

This is always included in automatic downloads but will not install. I previously had my updater set to automatically download but to allow me to manually install. That never worked. Today I tried the solution in MS's FAQ's to turn auto install back on. That didn't work either. (Other updates do install -- both manually and automatically.) View this thread

Hello, Windows 7 Update Suggests to install Microsoft Filter Pack 2.0 (KB2553501) 32-Bit Edition, but this Windows 7 is a 64 BIT Operating System, so do I actually need a 64 BIT version of Microsoft Filter Pack 2.0 (KB2553501) rather than a 32 bit version? If so, is it easy to find a 64BIT version?Help Please, dragondaveWR View this thread

For KB2742597 I've attempted multiple times to go through the usual update process. Each time it will download but not allow the install. I've restarted and tried to install it again...and same result. I manually tried to install it (yes I installed the prerequisite as well) and a prompt came up saying: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'netfix.msi' in the box below." ...I tried clicking OK to attempt it again and got no effect. I selected both of the options(individually of course) that automatically appeared in the box (one was a temporary file and the other was Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 (Disk 1)) and neither worked. I then tried to Browse through the entire disk drive for some component containing the 'netfix.msi' and could not find a thing. For KB940157 I've gone through the same process of trying multiple times with a restart as well and I tried manual update for this too, but this also will not allow me to install it. I realize this is not a High Priority update so perhaps if someone knows how much of a benefit this update really is or if I can just disregard it, that would be helpful too. View this thread
