I recently installed a new SATA Hard drive 320GB on my HP pavilion laptop because the original hard drive that came with the laptop lived it's life. I installed Windows vista home premium that came with the 4 CD's when I bought my laptop. So now I'm having problems with the windows update, I get a error code (80080005) every time I try getting updates. It seems like I have tried everything, I have tried looking the code up but I don't find any answers for windows vista, I tried a live chat and they finished offering me to buy a plan that cost $99 just to fix the problem, I tried downloading "Microsoft fix it" but that too can't download, it tells me "windows powershell failed to install". I'm even having problems with Windows Defender, it gives me an error code of (0xC8000222). I have ran out of options that's why I'm trying this Forum to see if any one of you great minds out there can help me out with this problem. Thanks in advance View this thread

I want to thank you for your help ! Turns out my computer is windows 7 compatible. I had to go on the Asus website and download all the drivers for my M.B. and windows 7 that are compatible for my computer, they were all there. I downloaded and save them on a CD, But the only thing I am wondering about is the downloads are in Zip Files. So do I unpack the Zip files first and move the actual drivers to a septarate created file, then save the actual drivers on a CD or Install windows 7 and use the CD with all the Zip folders? I know just enough to get my self in trouble and don't want to mess this computer up.One more question my hardrive shows 2 separate drives one C:winvista and D: data, do I direct windows 7 to C: if asked or will win7 just install over everything? I have Windows XP Op Sys. I have set up the "Default Actions" setting to quarantine threats so I can see what it captures. I have run two scans and no not seen anything even cookies. My old AVG always found cookies. I deleted AVG for Essentials. Why don't I see any history? Also if I get something quarentined do I have to manually delete it? View this thread

okay, so i was able to install the XP SP2. HOWEVER, upon doing so my mouse stopped working. I could not determine why this happened. I performed a system restore so the mouse is now working again. When I try to reinstall XP SP2 I get the following message: Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this computer. When I try to update my ViewSonic monitor with Windows Update it fails on all my computers. Installation FailureError Code: 0x80070103 I think the update itself is empty because recently I tried to install it by itself and it says 1 updates, 0 KB, 0 minutes, but it also says it is downloaded and ready to install so I I tried it on a friends computer where I had not ever tried to install it and it still says 1 updates, 0 KB, 0 minutes. I did not go any further with it on that computer because I'm sure the results will be the same as on mine. Am I correct in assuming it is empty? If so who do I email to get it fixed or should I call the support line and tell them. I have sent a note a couple times through different areas of this site but to no avail. I'd like to get the update if there is one but if there is not than I'd like for Update to quit offering it. View this thread

Hi All I have an Acer Aspire 1650 running Windows XP The kids have used it for a while and they started complaining that it was not shutting down properly and the keyboard was being really slow to type on etc. So, I played around with it for a while and made sure that the Accessibility settings were OFF for Sticky Keys and FilterKeys etc. Confirmed that these were unchecked. Even went into the registry to set the settings from posts I had found on the web. Still taking 3 seconds or so to register a key stroke. The other issue is that when you shut the thing down is has the following as Not Responding. Explorer.exeHiddenFaxWindow Sometimes SystemTray When I started the machine in Safemode all worked well and shut down correctly. After playing about a bit, I decided to take the machine back to it's factory settings. Alt and F10 on startup and reinstalled the OS - XP SP2 Did that and all was working well, shutting down correctly and keyboard working well. Then the Updates applied SP3 and now the exact same issues occur. Back to cant type and on shutdown the same Explorer.exe and HiddenFaxWindow not responding. What can I do? This is a fresh install of the OS from the Acer procedure, and applying the SP3 that causes the issue. Any help would be greatly appreatiated!! Cheers Safara View this thread

My old computer died and i desperately needed a reliable computer asap. I went out to buy one and found that Microsoft basically took all of the Windows 7 ones off the Market. So i dropped 400 dollars for a new computer that has everything i need in hardware. The problem. I hate Windows 8. I truly despise it. I need a functioning computer. Not a tablet. The user interface is an absolute mess. I am fully capable of working it, i have a tablet. But having to click three or four or five buttons just to get somewhere on my computer is utterly ridiculous. I do not need tiles, and i don't want them. I like windows. Believe it or not they do actually work better. I am aware that there is "classic looks" ways to get start buttons, etc. I do not however feel like i should have to put a band aid on that disaster just so it will work the way i need it too. Not to mention there are programs i need that will not operate in Windows 8. Thanks to that stupid mess i'm late on an important project for work. Why? Because i had to spend hours reformatting it to try to make it function like a computer instead of some touch screen nonsense tablet. I do not want Windows 8. Not only is the user interface a mess, but the drivers and programming is a total nightmare. Instead of easily being able to navigate and fix things i had to call in my experts. After hours of very tech savvy men attempting to give me Windows 7 so i could actually function in the corporate world, only to discover IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE. I spent 400 dollars to find out my brand new computer is not compatible for what i need it for. Worse yet, because of this ridiculous Windows 8 push it is virtually impossible to find a decent new computer that won't cost me another one to two hundred dollars just to get an operating system that is good. I really don't want to have to switch to mac, i think it's overpriced and overrated but at least on Macs i can actually get windows 7. I watched the tutorial videos. I customized it to wazoo. I tried to like it, but i'm done. I refuse to jump through any more hoops for an OS that in all honesty is ****. So. When is Windows 7 or something similar coming? Is Windows 7 or an os with actual windows and no more metro interface coming? View this thread
