Hello, I have a problem with my task-bar on windows 8 in which when I open a program on my computer the icon does not show up on my task-bar therefore I cannot reopen the program once it has been minimized. I can reopen it through task manager however it will still not show on the task-bar and still takes more time than it should. I am using start is back. For example if I opened Team speak it would not show on the task-bar. Therefore I cannot reopen it when want to. Here is a screenshot of what happens when I open teamspeak. http://gyazo.com/1dd0f2644da0747ceb43e45df2fe7950 When I restart my computer I always get this whitebar across my task-bar. It does not go away until I mess around with the task-bar settings. http://gyazo.com/a224bec9edb63a731ccf1aeb02f45378 If anyone has any ideas on what is wrong with my computer and how I can fix it then please let me know as I really can't use my efficiently computer at the moment. I look forward to your advice! Tom. PS I have copied this from my Tom's Hardware post as there is not been many reply's. I also did not know what topic to put this under so I just put it under performance and maintenance. View the full article

Apologies if this posting is in the wrong forum. We are using AD FS for authentication into our Office365 environment. All is working as expected. What I would like to do now is to allow my systems that are connected to my domain to pass the Windows authentication (UPN and password) information to the AD FS login screen so that my users on my domain don't have to re-authenticate to connect to Office365. I can pass the UPN information to the ADFS login screen but cannot pass the AD password. Does anyone know how to pass the password to the AD FS login screen or somehow tell ADFS to use the windows authentication to connect? Other applications seem to do this. For example, my vCenter web interface allows me to check a box that says 'Use Windows session authentication' that, when checked, auto-populates my user name and password. This must be possible for the AD FS login screen? Hopefully someone can help. Thank you. View this thread

I have and hp compaq and was previously able to connect to my router. I shut the computer down and moved it to a different room (closer to router) and now I don't even have a wireless network available in the network connections. Where did it go? I have connected it wirelessly before, so I know it has the capability. View this thread -
windows vista Windows Vista -> Windows Server
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
Hi, I have an old Windows Vista pc, and I was about to get rid of it as I use my Windows 7 laptop all the time - however I have started to teach myself Umbraco CMS, which is a .NET Content Management System. As a result I was thinking of turning my old Vista Desktop into a server of such connected straight to my router. I have had no problem with Vista, but it is no use at networks, and remembering network usernames and passwords etc. I do not want to spend a lot of money, but wondering what is the best way of getting this updated to Windows 7, 8 or to a version of Windows Server OR is there anything else you could recommend for me to be able to create website with Umbraco (.NET platform) and IIS (free enterprise is good enough) Old pc spec is more than enough and from memory is high enough spec for Windows 7 or 8...... Any ideas? View this thread -
Is it possible to mix Education plan E1 and E3? Let's say in a university, the students only needs the E1 plan, but the administration needs E3. Can E1 and E3 be purchased, and then the E1 licenses be assigned to the students, and the E3 licenses to the administration users? View this thread

Running Vista and using Hotmail. How can I view the "Blocked Senders" list? View this thread -
I have this installed on my PC since Oct 28, 2014. https://secure.driversupport.com/Account/home/about I don't remember downloading it, and my wife is sure that she didn't, but......! (She could have) Do I really need this on there? Was it installed as an update from Windows? Can I safely delete it? I have absolutely no idea was it does, and now, I'm worried since I reserved the Windows 10 to be downloaded. Can anyone help? View the thread

I have reserved for free update to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I have Avast free anti-virus on my computer (desktop). Will this interfere with automatic download of Windows 10? I have also read that Avast is not compatible with Windows 10. Will that remain true when Windows 10 is launched by July end? View the thread

For no apparent reason we receive the validation error message, even though the software is genuine and was activated several years ago. Plenty of posts here how to fix that, until Microsoft can figure out why the software has a bug. My concern is that a security conscious company like Microsoft, as demonstrated by the UEFI secure boot/driver/hardware initiative would present end users with an application that looks like it could be a potential virus. Why is the app legitcheck.hta unsigned, or am I looking at a possible Crypto-Locker attempt on my computer? I could go ahead and click it, but if its a virus, I could be looking at a 6 hour or more Ransom-Ware cleanup with the click of a button. To a trained IT professional, this is a "Red Wire - "Green Wire?" decision point. Perhaps an oversight at Microsoft or is this "by design" How can I tell if your legitcheck.hta is legit? http://extremetechsupport.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/065d44d51d4515b1be98fb38c525461d._.png View the thread

I re-imaged my PC today. I reinstalled Windows 7 from the original disc and did the Windows Updates. When I tried to install IE 10 or 11, the message was I need Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Updates show that this was installed but it doesn't show under Computer Properties. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still no change to the problem. View the thread

I want to clean install a better OS such as Windows 7 Pro 64 bit from Vista 64 bit but I'm not sure what the correct way to back up my files should be, windows easy transfer or back up and restore. I would like to keep MS Office and all the files associated with it, not just the files only and I would like to keep other programs such as Roxio burning software, hardware drivers like my ATI Radeon HD graphics card software, Dell system drivers for other hardware like the monitor, hard drive, keyboard, webcam, printer, etc. and Dell software like Dell media player including other Dell related software as well. Of course I want to keep music, documents, videos, etc. but the only problem is, I need to do a clean install, erasing everything; I thought one of these back up methods would keep all original programs, not just files, document, videos, etc. and transfer them to my new OS without having to reinstall software which is to old to find and download now a days... I'm confused. View the thread

The "Get Windows 10" App Says that my laptops mouse and keyboard might not work correctly after upgrade. I'm looking for a fix to this. I want everything to run smooth. Thanks in advanced for any help. I am currently running windows 7 Home Premium And I get this error on the "Get Windows 10" App That says my touchpad and keyboard might not work correctly after my upgrade (which I am dying to get, By the Way.).http://extremetechsupport.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/b0d7ffdbdca43b58fe0c584ecdc65545._.png I am eager to upgrade ASAP. My Keyboard and touchpad are attached to the laptop. My real question is, When I upgrade, will my hardware work, and is this alert nothing to worry about? and If this is a serious problem, How can I fix this to maximize performance and prevent any problems. P.S.: My touch-pad and Keyboard have never been removed or replaced. The only hardware I've ever had replaced was the screen and that was at least 6 months ago. Thanks! http://extremetechsupport.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/230678eaba7a1d5d495c139f58e04db3._.png View the thread

For the past while, my computer kept telling me I had two updates to install, but neither of them would install. They are Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 for Windows 7 x64-based Systems (KB2901983) and Update for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (KB2001652) I always get the same error message. "Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error." And when I've tried the Offline Updater for .NET Framework 4.5.2, it says ".NET Framework 4.5.2 has not been installed because: Fatal error during installation." Here is the log file it gives me... " (Elapsed time: 0 00:00:29). I tried a bunch of different things I found on the internet, and nothing has worked. I tried uninstalling the .NET Framework 4.5.1 I had to see if that would somehow help, but it didn't change anything. And now, I'm getting the same problems when I try to install .NET Framework 4.5.1, so I don't know what to do at this point. I don't really know a lot about doing this kind of stuff, so I'm really hoping I can get some advice put into simpler terms. Also, as a side question: Would all of this and not having that Framework be the reason I haven't gotten the "Get Windows 10" thing to show up in my system tray? View the thread

All of my USB's have stopped working, my Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter has a yellow exclamation mark next to it and I don't have Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the tunneling adapter and uninstalled and reinstalled all of the usb devices in device manager. When I look at the task bar and go to customize it says on windows explorer that there is a power surge on a hub port, but it isn't giving me a pop up like it has in the past, telling me to reset it. I have been looking for a fix for hours and I am really mad because my usb mouse can't work. I have a Dell Inspiron 15r 64bit home premium. Please help me as I am really sad because I use controllers to play certain games, and I can't even use my mouse now. Thanks. View the thread

The Default 'Dhivehi' (Maldivian language) font is currently 'mvboli.ttf' (When I choose the language - keyboard even the spelling of our language is wrong - it says 'Divehi (Maldives)' Everyone including All government offices use 'A_Faruma Regular' or 'Faruma Regular' The current default 'mvboli' is almost unbearable to read (I mean literally. Not exaggerating) Microsoft, just ask anyone from my country, no one would disagree with me. Thank you. View the thread

windows 8 Having Boot/Speed/Recovery issues
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
Hello, I have recently had an issue with my computer, and I was looking for some support. First, my computer started acting strangely, windows and processes would freeze. After rebooting my computer multiple times, at one point my computer's startup, login, and everything else became very slow, like it took things ten minutes to open then became slow after that. Turns out the disk was at 100% in the task manager, which I tried to fix using multiple remedies, but did not work. I thought this was a hard drive issue, maybe it got corrupted. I asked my dad for help, and he set it into automatic repair. After about 5 minutes of the dell load up screen, it starts repairing. Everything is smooth up until it says, Repairing Disk Errors. This may take over an hour to complete. I've left this on for a day at a time, retrying many times over. But, it does not work. I've tried setting a boot option to restore factory defaults in the bios, but it does the repair first, and doesn't restore. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 15, and did not come with a recovery disk or Windows 8 installation disk. Any help would be appreciated with at least skipping the automatic repair, then after that maybe everything else will be ok. If it isn't, then at least I can get into Windows again and try some other solutions. (Windows 8 by the way). View the full article -
I am trying to upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1. I try to download the app from the Windows store and instead of installing it says "This app wasn't installed - view details." When I click on details it says "Windows is getting your Windows 8.1 upgrade ready. You will automatically be prompted to install Windows 8.1 soon. You can continue to use your PC in the meantime." Windows 8 came pre-installed on my laptop. All Windows updates are up to date and I have temporarily turned off my anti-virus. Any help would be appreciated. View the full article

I see the questioned asked but not resolved. I can only do one thing and that is turn on the Asus Laptop and then press F2 setup Utility (Aptio) with the tabs MAIN, ADVANCED, BOOT, SECURITY, SAVE & EXIT, I can do Very little with those options, and in fact I am so unskilled I am unsure of what to do with those. Also I did get it brand new Windows 8 preloaded, no recovery disk and I don't recall seting the ADMIN password so it came with one or somehow even the one's I may use commonly don't get me in. Then NOTHING..I cannot change anyting and I repeatedly get the same message, Reboot and select proper Boot Device etc.. I can do nothing else, no "Foptions" not get into Bios, nothing at all, just hit enter and it repeats..I know I did something very wrong when this first happens and it is as if nothing exsists other than this error...can anyone help at all? It is * but I have a brand new, unused 7Pro disk and don't care about going from 7n to 8 but again it won't even allow that due to missing drivers which I have also researched..sorry so long and repetitive, new at this THANKS!!!! (enter in run). Further, the system will NOT process "system restore" for any date. HELP View this thread

windows vista vista upgrade to 7 before 10

I have Windows Vista Ultimate on my PC. Should I upgrade to 7 or 8.1 to get Windows 10 for free? View this thread -
This issue still is not solved - I had to step back and wait until I had the time. After a Windows Update (May 2014), my Dell Inspiron i660s computer rebooted to a black screen with the error "no SATA was found". The "you have updates" popped up, I said "OK" (not set to automatic). The Dell was running W8 - had not allowed the update to the 8.1 trial. When the updates completed, I was given the "must reboot" screen and allowed it - on reboot the screen was black and said that no SATA was found. Having run the diagnostics, the system is all good - except that there is no hard drive found. Dell does not provide a startup CD, but since the computer won't even boot - there is no option to restore. I removed the hard drive unit as suggested on the Dell site and then replaced it. Still nothing, same error. Meanwhile, I have a SATA enclosure for the hard drive I originally asked about and all of my files are there and the hard drive reads just fine (I am not yet willing to lose these files) - I was able to get the log of that fatal Windows update -- will it help? So the hard drive is not dead -- what must I do to get the computer to recognize it? View the full article
