  1. Have you reset the BIOS boot order? HDD. CD/DVD. Floppy. Turn off boot from network. Unplug all external items not required for booting then try restarting the computer....
  2. Well leave things alone for now, once you have replaced the battery and reapplied thermal paste we will look at the tempratures again and see if they have improved.... If after that no shut downs then your computer is possibly back to healthy.... You may just have a tempramental computer.....I had a Compaq PC that if you sneezed the HDD appeared to disconnect.Slight movement of the desk the computer did not boot....Yes something maybe loose or faulty in the Compaq PC but I never did find out what if anything was causing the none boots..... Fiddling inside your computer may of inadvertantly fixed the error,it may of been a cable a little loose and now its ok..... Ok,so leave the internals alone and lets just see if we can sort the battery and heat issues.....Once you have received them both and done the job at hand maybe the problems will be gone.....
  3. Do not unplug the fans at the moment.... Its possible vibrations or movement inside the PC is upsetting some hardware or cable.....Hence shut down.... I would of sugested unplug the DVD/CD rom drive then play witha a game or surf the internet..... If all appears well then replug it in and unplug the floppy.. Try didffrent cables on hardware that may rule in or out an issue.... As its not my computer I would not sugest wiggling any cables while the computer is powered on..... Hopefully the thermal paste will bring the temps down..... We cannot pin point what the issue is at the moment it is a process of elimination.... However heat appears to play a part.... Update hardware drivers, this may help to....
  4. Hello and welcome... If you have not installed internet explorer 8 please do so..... You need to fully update XP..... Open Internet Explorer (only) to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com | Select CUSTOM and scan | Install any Critical Security Updates offered (e.g., KB982381). If a Root Certificates update is listed in the Optional Software updates category on the left-hand side of the scan results window, install it to take full advantage of IE8's enhanced security & to correct the problem. NB: Automatic Updates offers Root Certificate updates to Vista & Win7
  5. Im sure if this is not fixed we can help further..... Let us know how it goes....
  6. Your very welcome.... A reapplication of thermal paste may help your CPU also... I would rather tell you to test hardware rather than just to say this IS the problem.... Hopefully we will get to the root of the problem...
  7. Sorry I had to pop off to restart my computer.... Fingers crossed for you....
  8. Are you able to even open command prompt either in normal or safe mode? If you can type in sfc /scannow and hit enter and let it run? Have you tried last known good config? Do you have recovery disks or full install disks or recovery partition? Just a thought, are you prepared to backup your data and run a recovery or a reinstall of the OS?
  9. Hey Pete... A virus can stop your AV picking up the virus if one is lurking.... Check for any update or hardware driver that may of installed just before this issue started... Have you tried a repair? Did you install any software yourself that may of caused this issue? Did you download lets say a MP3 that may of caused this issue?
  10. Hello and welcome.... Are you getting the popup Windows Explorer has stopped working? Could you possibly have a virus? Could be a driver issue..... Have you installed the latest service pack? I cannot find a Windows 7 link but the commands in this one are the same: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937093
  11. Going back to the PSU,let me explain something.... I was tired last night and could not write another word... When a PSU developes a fault of some kind it can still light up the mainboard. An example of this was a few months agao with my PSU,it lit my mainboard, however my monitor did not power on and my CD/DVD rom drives lit up but did not open.... A PSU wich is faulty or failing can still power parts of your computer..... Have you tested other hardware? Disconnect CD/DVD rom drives, card reader, floppy disk then run the computer for a while and see if you get a shut down....It could be a peice of faulty hardware or a cable from one of these itrems....Just discconecting and switching the computer on is not a test, run the computer for a while and see what happens.... You may of wiggled the main power cable BUT near this is the RAM slots, have you individualy tested the RAM? http://extremetech.support/threads/7172-Memtest86-How-to-Run. I would not like to point the finger at one peice of hardware or another until you have checked everything fully..... Again you wiggled the main power cable, this wiggle could of upset a fault somewere else inside the computer and the main power is not the issue.....The tinyest of faults can shut down a computer....
  12. Ok,can you borrow a PSU to test your system? If your CPU is getting overly warm at stock I would hate to think what it gets to when it is over clocked....When over clocking the cooler needs to either be replaced for a better one,was the cooler built to allow for overclocking? You cannot just OC your CPU without adjusting the cooler or replacing it regaurdless if its water cooled or not.... If it has been running hot when OCed then damage may of been done.... I wonder what your temps are when it is OCed? The power connection may of been damaged for some time and has degraded over time OR the issue is not the power supply but the mainboard connection......Hence get a compatable PSU to test the system.... I would go with Boomer on the BIOS battery and get it replaced as soon as..... A BIOS battery should be replaced every two years regaurdless, however if the computer was built a year ago and I asume the battery is one year old to.Power outages of some kind can cause the BIOS battery to loose power and die eventualy, this shows in the BIOS clock needing resetting.... If you replace the battery with a brand NEW one not one taken from another computer and still have issues then we would look at that to.....
  13. So I asume at some point you overclocked your CPU>? If this is the case did you fit a better cooler or stick with the stock cooler that was supplied with the CPU?
  14. On the last picture oh and thankyou, the GPU is a little hotter than it should be,your CPU if it gets any hotter than its game temp then its going to crash the system.....
  15. We are also taking about water cooling...... Have you tried to check all seals etc for the tinyest of leaks?
  16. It could be a combination it could be seprate issues.... Reset the time and date in BIOS..... Download and install and run: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php I know you are saying its not a temp issue but sounds like it could be.... Please give the computer a few minutes to warm up then post me idle temps, temp of normal process such as web surfing then a set of temps while playing game please.... EDIT:I hope you are NOT wiggling internal hardware and cables while the computer is powered on?
  17. Click start on your task bar then right click on "Computer" and choose properties.... Under were its listed Syetem does it say 64 bit system or 32 bit?
  18. Hello and welcome.... Ok lets answer your questions.... 1.You need a FULL Windows Operating System install disk if you fit a new blank hard drive.... 2.You can buy online at such places as Amazon,Play.com,Ebay,Fujitsu or at a Computer Store.... 3.Yes a beginner can install an OS.Depending on what OS you plan to install full instructions can be found online, with or without pictures you can even find video how to.... 4.Belarc can tall you exact make and model but some times it may fail to,Astra32 can do the same job....
  19. Ahhh ok....I hope you bought a good one....
  20. Vista is not bad you just need to learn how to use it.....
  21. To get windows 7 back you cannot use windows upgrade anytime ... You need to contact your machines makers website and buy an install disk..... That was your origonal question.....
  22. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/274/1 Above link expalins how to correctly apply thermal paste....
  23. Hello and welcome Peter... Please do not take offence on this reply.... But there are many diffrent type of books out there and they are titled such things like computers for dummies, internet for dummies.....Not a polite title I know and they are a rather large book.... Being a little lazy as you appear you could realy surf the internet and of course find out all the updated information for free..... I have several pocket books by Peter Buckley and Duncan Clarke....I dont read them much these days but they are great cheap pocket sized books.....They do XP,iTunes, internet, links,MACS n OS X and a few others.... As you live in the UK,WHSmiths is a good starter for buying books....I usaly only buy from them when they have a sale though... DK do a good computer book on XP,Vista and Microsoft Office older and latest versions.....Purchased from WHSmith.... You will even find an array of hardware books,Windows 7,Internet,etc all in Smiths.... Most of the books can be bought online via,Play.com with free delivery,Amazon and other online stores.... These books can only learn you so much, online help would deffinantly boost your knowledge..... If you wish to learn more technical details of hardware then you would be better reading INTEL,AMD,NVIDIA,ATI Radeon,Seagate hard drives, these sites not only advertise the latest hardware but also software and under there support tab you can learn how to fix things with there written instructions.....
  24. If your hard drive button shows no activity then recovery console and startup will not begin..... If you had answered the questions posted for you earlier in this thread we may of got answers and a fix earlier on and helped you earlier.... Failure to answer questions have now wasted your time and ours.... You need to take the laptop to a shop or send it back to Sony as it appears your hard drive is dead hard drive and it needs replacing.....This will also mean windows will have to be reinstalled....
  25. If you have used the same Windows install disk on two computers and this is illegal.....If you have performed illegal actions then I can no longer help you due to forum rules.... You need to purchase a legal windows operating system disk either from the computer manufacturer or a store.....
