"I have a new windows Vista machine". Exactly are you new to how to setup Vista? Have you setup file and printer sharing on the Vista machine? On Vista the workgroup is set as WORKGROUP in XP is is usaly set as MSHOME. You need to set XP workgroup to WORKGROUP. Tootech is correct if you are running Sky broadband the disk supplied is only to show you how to setup the router. Possibly a firewall blocking. Also possibly another network being picked up from somewere else can slow or drop a connection or to close to mobile phones or cordless phones etc.

Possibly needed a hardware driver or did you install a new CD/DVD software? Did you install the hardware driver for this hard drive during install? You appear to of made a few changes as in hardware put the internals back were they should be.Then enter BIOS and load defaults and see if that works. Check your boot order is correct in BIOS such as hard drive first then CD/DVD rom. When swopping and changing hard drives in this was often you need to reboot and repeatedly tap F8 and choose last known good config to make this work. You should test the hard drive via restart poping in the install disk and boot into recovery console with command prompt and run chkdsk. Did you remove any disks or floppies from the drives before attempting to boot? You need a full install disk not a boot CD or recovery CD. This appears normal to me,depending on processes you use and what software. You mention windows 98?Are you trying to create a dual boot? Do you have both SATA and IDE hard drive installed? Possibly if IDE is trying to act as a slave then its jumper should be set as slave or cable select. Is the CD/DVD (if rom drive is IDE)rom on same IDE cable as the hard drive?If yes then both being set as master causes a conflict. Are you sure the IDE hard drive is in the correct port on mainboard? Your answers are rather short of confusing if you could explain fuller the issues and all changes you have made then we could help you more. JB.

Hey there. I agree there is no way this will run. It appears your Vista and XP machines hardware will not run in a 16 bit mode as in 95. When I say hardware I mean your graphics card. Vista and XP were not designed for Direct X 5 but a later version such as 9 and 10.Vista and XP will not let you downgrade to 5. Direct X is associated with graphics cards. You have a combination of a very old game trying to run on newer hardware and software machines,it is just not going to go. It just boils down to incompatibility. JB.

Angel is your new laptop installed with a DVD rewriter or a CD rewriter? Are the disks the correct disks and what brand are they? What are the make and models of your CD/DVD drives? Have you tried updating hardware driver via device manager? Do both laptops have wireless cards as you can transfer over a network.

Mmmmm that laptop only has upto 3 hours of battery life not very good. The processor is 1.66 GHZ I would go for a little higher speed on that. I would not buy that brand Ant. Have you considered Dell,Toshiba and Samsung brands?

They have spoken to the owner of the dog today,need I say the neighbour denied his dog had got out more than once.That his dog was completely under control. BUT and I say a big BUT.
