[Solved] Motherboard dead?? Beeeeep - beep-beep
Armageddon replied to Richard_T's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Richard just to to add to this I ordered a barebones unit from Novatech this morning I'll let you know how i get on with the build etc , it arrives tomorrow -
Hello Michael your best way would be wipe the drive and start afresh , as long as your windows 7 is a full version , boot up with the dvd in wait till it get pasts the windows is loading files etc it will then arrive at the upgrade or custom install , select custom install it will then show your drives if you click delete on both drives it will create 1 drive you can then proceed with a fresh windows 7 install on the one drive , on a 80 gig drive after updates etc and the service pack have installed you will be left with 60 to 65 gig of free space

Hi I dont know if Avast should remove itself even if a new version is out maybe one of our security guys could confirm/deny that in the meantime could you run the following scans so our guys can have a closer look. Step 1 Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. Make sure you are connected to the Internet. Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked: Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware [*]Then click Finish. [*]MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. [*]On the Scanner tab: Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. [*]If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. [*]The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. [*]When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found". [*]Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process. [*]Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found. [*]Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. [*]When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below) [*]The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM. [*]Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM. Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Step 2 Download OTL to your desktop. right click on the link and select 'Save Link/Target As'. if you have problems, try this download link: OTL Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output. Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/new/Otllatest.png Now copy the lines in bold below. netsvcs msconfig %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.* %systemroot%\system32\Spool\prtprocs\w32x86\*.dll %systemroot%\*. /mp /s %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles %systemroot%\system32\*.exe /lockedfiles %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav %PROGRAMFILES%\* %USERPROFILE%\..|smtmp;true;true;true /FP HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\WindowsUpdate\AU hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /rs hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /64 /rs CREATERESTOREPOINT right click in the Custom Scans/Fixes window (under the blue bar) and choose Paste. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/new%20forum/scan-fix.png . Click the Run Scan button. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/runscan.png Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long. When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them with your next reply. Note: Running the above script with OTL will : turn on your system restore and set a new restore point (XP only) set a new restore point (if system restore is turned on) Vista & Win7. In your next reply, please submit: MBAM scan report Both reports from OTL Whilst we are helping you, please don't run other programs/scans without our knowledge .... it only confuses things. Thanks. how to sort your sound out [h=2]http://digiex.net/images/icons/icon1.png Enable Audio Over DVI and HDMI in Windows XP or Windows Vista[/h] If you have a new graphics card such as the Radion HD 3450 your graphics card most likely has an audio controller onboard, this means you can output video and sound when your computer is connected to a TV with a HDMI port. If you are using a DVI to HDMI adaptor you will need to use one that supports audio from the graphics card’s DVI connection as well as video. If your graphics card doesn’t come with a DVI to HDMI adaptor that supports audio have a look on Ebay and search for “ATI DVI to HDMI” all the official ATI adaptors should be fine for this. I can’t really provide a list of graphics cards that have an audio controller onboard but it should be listed on the graphics cards manufactures website if your particular card supports this or not. Most cards in the Radion 2600, 3000 and 4000 series by Sapphire support this. In my media centre pc I’m using a Sapphire Radeon HD 3450 If you know you’re hooked up with the correct cables and adaptors lets begin! Vista Users: Click the Vista orb in the bottom left of the screen, then select control panel (select classic view in the top left if needed) Now find sound and click on it http://users.digiex.net/insanenutter/guides/hdmi-audio/hdmi1.jpg You should now see a list of playback devices, select Digital Output Device (HDMI) and right click on it. (depending on your graphics card and manufacturer the name could be slightly different) On the right click menu select Set as Default Device. http://users.digiex.net/insanenutter/guides/hdmi-audio/hdmi2.jpg That’s it, simple as that! The audio controller on your graphics card will be the default sound device. http://users.digiex.net/insanenutter/guides/hdmi-audio/hdmi3.jpg You might have to select the volume control in to the system tray and ensure the volume is fully turned up. http://users.digiex.net/insanenutter/guides/hdmi-audio/hdmi4.jpg Your sound will now be going through the HDMI cable to your TV or Receiver as well as the picture. If you ever want your sound to play though your computers sound card just set it as the default device again. Windows XP: For Windows XP it’s the exact same process the menu’s are just set out slightly different. Unfortunately I don’t have a computer running Windows XP to provide screenshots of the process. Click the start button, go to control panel and click switch to classic view in the top left if needed, then click on Sound and Audio Devices. You will then be presented with the Sound and Audio options for your computer, click on the Audio tab and select ATI HD Audio as the default device and click ok. There you go, your sound will now be going through the HDMI cable to your TV or Receiver as well as the picture.

replacement harddrive question
Armageddon replied to kai21's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
hello Kai basically the answer is no for using a external drive as a replacement for your internal unless you plan on taking the external out of its housing and using it as a internal then it depends if the fittings are correct. Replacing a drive isn't such a hard job on a desktop am sure myself or many of the folks here would be willing to help having said all this you can use a external drive as your main drive for a linux based operating system just not a windows one. Hope this helps Dave -
