  1. And if you can upgrade to IE8 it would be a good time to look for malware issues considering your posts. That's what I suspect. At least now it may be possible to deal with it since you can boot again.
  2. Hi Nev and Isaiah. A very good point Nev. LOL I see my grandson Isaiah made some posts while I was sleeping. At least he kept his posts out of the serious sections of the forum.
  3. It could be any number of things. Possibly the hard drive. Run a test on it. It could also be malware. I wouldn't trust AVG to find anything though.
  4. Thanks DSTM. I couldn't have said it better. deadkennedy86 it is as DSTM said. Let us know how it goes please.
  5. Hi danny. I'm sure we can help you with this. Yes there are ways so don't worry. In order for you to get the best possible advice I'm going to let our security team advise you. The first thing they might want you to do is read this. Before posting for Malware Removal help. They will also probably move your thread to the Malware Infection Removal section of our forum. Just post here for now.
  6. Try this. Uninstall or remove the device from Device Manager. Restart the computer and Windows should reinstall the drivers for it. If it still doesn't work try the fix from Goku.
  7. Have a look at this link for System Restore. http://bertk.mvps.org/html/restoresysv.html Keep in mind that you cannot undo a System Restore that is performed in safemode.
  8. Jim are the images you're having trouble printing from scans? If so it may be that you are not scanning at a high enough resolution. Also some pictures don't have as many dpi's as others. Although scanned pictures may look fine on a monitor to get good print quality they need more dpi's. Also have a look at Epson Support for your model. There is quite a bit there that may help. Also make sure you have up to date drivers.
  9. Hi. When you view a page the width is determined by the source code that was written to display it. The only thing you can do personally is adjust your resolution or use your browser settings while on that page to increase or decrease the viewing size. In IE look to the lower right of your screen and increase or decrease the 100% setting. In Firefox click View>Zoom on the toolbar. If you are talking about pages you create then in the source code don't use absolutes for the sizes. Instead use percentages when you set widths.
  10. Hi Frank. This issue was was resolved in another thread. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/windows-2000-and-xp/10831-message-logging.html
  11. clucky I think you made a mistake with your last post. Can you post again please?
  12. Hi. I can't seem to determine your exact model of computer or router. Can you be more specific please? A whole lot more information on what happens or what you see when you try to connect would also be helpful. Without more information it's doubtful anyone can help. That could be why there are no replies yet.
  13. Happy Birthday Bob. :):):)
  14. In addition to Franks warning about P2P and torrents I see a couple other possibilities that include his warning. P2P is dangerous and some poker software is too even if the initial download is safe they are sometimes vulnerable to attacks. Also figure that AVG is not a good defense in my opinion. You should try uninstalling the poker program then check for malware considering your weak defense. Also uninstall any programs you may have obtained via torrents before the check. It's also problematic to run more than one AV or firewall at the same time. Sometimes just disabling is not enough. I don't think you are going to get an easy solution considering several wrong moves but if it is malware we have a forum section for that and some great people to deal with it. Read the sticky before posting there.
  15. You're welcome Doug. Was it msconfig or renaming the file that did the trick?
  16. It could be a server issue on their end. Try again later. Have you disconnected all external devices before installing? Do you have just the one disk? What type of disk is it? You have a reply on another forum you posted this. Forums - problem upgrading from vista home prem to 7 home - PC Advisor
  17. What country are you in? It's because Windows was installed in that language. The only way around it is to reinstall Windows. Do you have the DVD's?
  18. Hi. There might be something in msconfig that you can uncheck. Type msconfig in the Run box then click on the Startup tab. Another possibility is to rename the registration file. Go to Programs and locate the HP folder. Find the product registration file and right click. Select Properties. Open File Location. It should take you directly to that file. Right click and rename it. On mine the file is named hpqwrg and can be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\hp\Digital Imaging\bin Don't rename any hpqwrg files with a dat, dll or rsc extension. The one you want is an application or exe file.
  19. Cool. Interesting thread. Thanks for the read.
  20. Hi. If I understand you correctly the games worked prior to installing the memory. Check Crucial to see if you have the right memory. Also confirm that the games work ok if you put the old memory back in. It might also help if we knew the model number of the Packard Bell I-Media and the exact memory you put in. I believe you meant spybot not spyboy.
  21. Hi everyone. I'm thinking this might be one really messed up system. If you look really close you will see part of the Limewire icon at the left of this screenshot just below the error. You might have to magnify it to 150%. ImageShack: Host and Share your Photos and Videos - img00001201010302105.jpg God only knows what else is on this system or what may have been done to ATTEMPT to fix it. I'm moving this thread to the Malware section just in case there might be any possibility of fixing it. In the mean time file sharing or P2P is one of the best ways of getting into this situation. Uninstall all such programs and never use them again.
  22. phil this should be in the network section. If you don't see your thread here it's because we moved it to Networking. Good luck; RandyL
  23. KenB explains it well and even has a link to a picture of both in this thread. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/hard-drives-pen-flash-and-usb/10560-new-hard-drive-packard-bell-easynote-mz35-216-a.html#post70239 Once you determine if you have a IDE or a SATA any model will work. Since you have a laptop you will need a laptop size not a desktop size. And since it is a laptop you might not be comfortable replacing it yourself. Some are easier than others on laptops. What is the exact make, model and number of your laptop? Someone might be familiar with it. Do you have your installation disks? Also keep in mind that I am not positive this is a drive issue. Either way is there data on the computer you need to save? If so that will be the first thing to consider. Jump in people please.
  24. Replacing a hard drive is very simple. After putting it in you will need to install Windows again so you will need your Windows DVD's.
  25. It sounds like it can't find the Windows Operating System (OS) on the hard drive disk so it attempts to repair the OS but can't. Repair Action- Partition table repair Almost sounds like there was more than one OS installed but I could be wrong. Even if the BIOS were set to boot from a cd/dvd first if there was no disk in the drive it would go straight to the hard drive-Windows to load. My first guess would be that the hard drive has failed as no OS was found. If so you could attempt to connect the drive to another computer to recover data.
