I'd agree, the PSU is practically silent. The only case fan is the one provided and I'd say it was making very little noise either. Been doing some more investigating and I think the main problem is the Graphics Card followed by the CPU fan, the two I can't easily do anything about. Never mind I'll live with it.

Thanks, I'll stop try to solve problems that don't exist. I'm running the native resolution which is 1680 x1050 I believe. Fans, umm I can still hear them, its not as quite as I'd like but after sorting the CPU fan in the bios its not as bad and I've come to the conclusion that its all three fans together that are the culprits and there's pretty much nothing I can do about it. When I mentioned I was unhappy with the noise to my dad he said that at least it was a constant noise and he's right, after I become used to it it will become habitual. OK, so I shouldn't worry about the excessive amount of drive space. I haven't transferred any files over, excluding my emails, but if its just backups then that's cool I''ll leave it as it is. Thanks again for all the help. Edit- one more question, my system seems to constantly use around 2GBs of ram, is 64-bit more resource hungry than 32-bit? As the average ram usage was always about 1GB of my 2GB on my old system.

Hi again, I'm still having a few difficulties. Despite having installed all the drivers I can find, motherboard and graphics card I'm still getting all the warnings I was on the previous post, its even telling me I need to install java and net framework, which I already have. Not sure what to do about these, the driver is the latest one offered and I presume it is certified. I can't get a refresh rate of 75Hz ( Samsung seem to suggest it should be 70Hz which I can't get either) This one concerns me as I have no idea what it means and there seem to be many warnings throughout the report. This one I can't find out how to assign an interrupt, system informtaion says it has "IRQ 4294967294" but this seems a bit strange and I'm not even sure its the right thing. I can't find out how to sort this, the help files say I need a driver from the hard drive manufacturer but Seagate don't offer one. I don't know what I need to do here, I can't find the device in the device manager and don't really understand what the device is. This concerns me, but I don't think there is anything I can do about it. Don't understand, there isn't a guest account and my account is password protected. As far as I can tell the driver is certified. Also this may be a daft question, but how in earth is 90GBs of my hard drive full. Ive only had an 80GB drive up till now and I've put hardly anything on the computer so I can't fathom out why there is only 370GB left of 465GB Thanks and sorry for the long post.

Well would you believe it No flying pigs, but our connection speed has just increased to around 2mb/s. Never heard back from orange though so I doubt they have anything to do with it. Randy, that's really interesting, I'd always thought the states were way ahead of us in terms of speed and costs, I guess not.
-
That certainly seems to be the case, which is a bit of a problem. My dad who pays the bill doesn't really use the internet, its just the rest of the family which has to suffer, and we could probably talk him into switching but if it costs an extra £10 or £20 a month he probably won't budge. All the good companies seem to offer a very small download limit for a comparative price to what we're getting now. I understand the reasons, but I still find it shocking that my dad has to pay £30 or £40 to get a decent service whereas I'm paying £7.34 a month for a great connection and speed and unlimited downloads in Edinburgh with proper customer service. Fingers crossed I get a phone call from orange in a short while and they sort the problem quickly and efficiently. And who knows if I look outside I might see flock of pigs flying past.

Thanks, well I've been in contact via email with orange, i took plenty of time explaining in my email the problems I was having and everything I had tried only to wait 48 hours only to receive a mostly automated email full of questions many of which were unrelated to my problem. And then further down telling me if I wanted any real help I'd have to call them on their 5p a minute number, so I basically told them that if they needed to talk to me about the problem they could call me as the fault was either with their connection or their equipment and if I had to phone them on their charged number it would be to request my MAC. Maybe I was a bit harsh but I'm getting fed up. As for other providers, I got all excited when I used you link, put in my postcode and BE came up, only to go to their site and find it wasn't available in my area. And my other thoughts were O2 home access but I've been reading they're not all that great ( least when you phone up to complain it don't cost you) My only other worry is the speed we'll get, BT say we can only get 1.5mb down the line. Orange say they are providing us with 5mbs and the actual speed is about 3mb. I'm worried that if we move to someone else we'll end up with a slower connection. But I think that if its an up to 8mb/s we shouldn't be any slower than orange are providing. Options seem to be very limited, I looked at Demon internet who offer a very good deal but can't find many reviews on them.

hi, trying to do this a bit at a time, still concentrating on the graphics card right now. I've downloaded the latest drivers from ATI but I'm unsure about the GPU bios update and how to go about it. I did a bit of searching and it seems to suggest I need a floppy disk drive, I don't think I even own a floppy disk. Also, I am betting this is a stupid question but when you say trawl for drivers what do you mean. Is there specific places I should look for all the ones I need etc. And don't apologise, I appreciate all the help I get and never expect an answer as quickly as you provide one.

Thinking of doing my first build
shrimply replied to cyberpedz's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Just thought I'd add a bit of input after just building my own. I don't think you'll save a lot of money, but you will probably end up with a better machine, getting help on here you know that every part is a quality component. Most of the parts I ordered came with 2 or 3 year warranty which is longer than the year you'll most likely get with a computer. Its also a very pleasing experience to actually turn on a computer you've put together and it actually work. And you can built the computer to the exact specifications you want and not have to do without something because it isn't included in a pre-built machine. It also will gain you plenty knowledge. A word of warning though, if your anything like me you'll never stick to your original budget, its just too tempting to spend an extra tenner to get a much better part and if you continue to do that you soon end up way off your budget. -
Thank you, I'll try and get all the latest drivers, its a slow process with the current internet issues. Only thing I'm slightly worried about is the bios update. Windows has been activated so some confusion there, and I was just waiting for windows to install the latest service pack through automatic updates, is this not the right thing to do? Anyway, I'll get the drivers I can and rescan and then see where i am. Thank you.

Jelly Bean, I finally got the Sisoftware Sandra software installed. I was wondering if you could let me know what I should do with it, it all seems very complicated. I ran the analysis and advice tool and it generated a number of errors and warnings, and tips. Most of which I don't think are important but if you'd mind looking over the log and seeing if there's anything I should act upon that would be great. Thank you. I'm hoping to get my windows 7 upgrade as I paid extra for an OEM that included it but it seems to suggest that I need a receipt for a purchased computer before I can get it which obviously I don't have. haven't looked into it yet but don't know how successful that will be.
-
Thanks. To be honest thee only reason we're with orange is that we took up they're £300 off a laptop offer ( the one that's just died) 2 years ago, so we are just out of contract with them. If they continue to provide a decent speed as they have done over the last 2 years I've advised my dad to stay with them due to not having any LLUs in our area there aren't really any offers that I can find that beat what we're paying £19.99 for up to 8meg and unlimited downloads. I have O2 at my flat and if it was possible to get that here i would as its great. I know what will happen though, I'll end up calling as my dad won't have the patience and they'll spend hours going through everything that could be wrong my end before I ever get them to see what they're doing wrong.

Thank you - Also a big thanks for your choice of components which I used for my new comp, its great. Anyway the info, hopefully this is what you need. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm67/D_Hunter315/Capture1.jpg And here's the other thing, this came from my computer which is sharing the internet from my netbook's wireless connection via ethenet. If you'd get better info from the computer wired directly to the livebox let me know. Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001] Copyright © 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Windows Live Mail Trensferring to New Computer
shrimply replied to shrimply's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Yeah its sorted, having found the correct folder with all the personal account settings and saved mail and placing it in the right place on the new computer when I opened Windows live mail for the first time all my accounts were set up and all my messages were in place. All I had to do was fill in the passwords for each account again before it downloaded new messages. Truth be told I actually I had to copy the folder to the new location twice as the first time I opened WLM I had all the accounts and some of the folders but no messages, which is a bit bizarre but it worked as hoped the second time around. -
Nerves, not really I have to say I was in my element, despite not knowing exactly what I was doing. I love that kind of thing. But I have to say I was slightly worried that the whole thing would go up in a bang and I am really grateful that you were here to guide me through the process. I'll get some pictures soon so you can see the final result.

I've complained about slow internet recently but its getting ridicules. I've always got between 1 amd 3mbs/s on the wireless connection, which while not great is adequate. As of recently both me (connected wirelessly) and my dad ( wired connection) have been getting stupid internet speeds 0.10mb/s. I was blaming orange as the speed coming in to the livebox was 224kps, but I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the speed has constantly been above 5000kps. I've factory reset the livebox and turned off the wireless then did a speed test on my dads PC, still 0.10mb/s. So somewhere between the livebox and my dads computer ( that's 1m of cable) we're losing 5mb/s. My only explanation is that the livebox is broken and needs replaced, but we can't afford to replace it really and getting a new one out of orange will be a nightmare. I'm already dreading long conversations to India. So if you've got any thoughts and solutions then that would be brilliant.

Cool, so no problems that's good. The wirless card is a cheap (£10) of ebuyer, they still sell it I think. It's a rebranded Marvell liberatas card. And I constantly get Error code 10. I'm not sure if its vista or the fact its 64 bit but I've scoured the internet and tried many suggested drivers and solutions and nothing works so it will need to be replaced.

Windows Live Mail Trensferring to New Computer
shrimply replied to shrimply's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Thanks, I have to say I hadn't even considered that. I want to transfer very little ( only my mail and firefox profile so far) and didn't realise that it was so customisable. However, there didn't seem to be an option for transferring "windows live mail" but it got me thinking that all I needed to do was find the right folder and copy it from computer A to the correct location on computer B. And amazingly it worked so I know have everything i need on the new computer with no hassle.:D -
Hi, again - sorry another question. My new computer is pretty much set-up, all that I need to do is transfer across my email accounts and messages. Now I know how to transfer my messages and accounts. My problem is that in the past after I've transferred my emails and accounts the client then downloads thousands of messages saved on the mail servers. So I end up with tons of duplicate mail. I'd rather not clear the mail servers but is there another way around this? Ideally I'd just like to transfer the entire set-up as it is from the old PC to the new one but I don't believe that's possible.

Here's the readings, though they seem to be identical to the other ones, including the mysterious AUX. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm67/D_Hunter315/Capture.jpg

The wireless card I've had for a while it works with XP, windows 7 and Ubuntu but apparently not vista. Presently I'm sharing my wireless connection from my netbook with it so I have a connection. I installed Everest so if you can let me know what to check I can do so, thanks.
-
Thanks will do And by the way, When I said this I missed spelled "knew", I wasn't using any borders slang, honest:D " Aye a kent that widnae work"
-
Thank you. Well a quick update, there are two main reasons that i haven't been back with an update quiker. The first is the cheap wireless card that I ken wouldn't work but prayed would, won't. No matter what drivers I throw at it. SO I will need to buy another adapter. At the minute its borrowing an internet connection off my netbook. Secondly our internet is ridiculously slow. Last night before I reset the router the download speed coming into the router was 224kps. SO everything is taking an age to download. The readings from Speed Fan are as follows System: 32C CPU: 31C AUX : 46C (umm don't know what this is) Core 0: 33C Core 1: 34C Maybe someone could let me know if this is OK. I haven't managed to get the other suggested software installed yet as I want to get the anti virus downloaded first. On the bright side I did post this message from the new computer, with the new monitor which is brilliant.

Hi, you were right it is the cpu fan, if you could five more exact instructions that would be great, I enabled "CPU quiet fan" but not sure if that's what you meant. Its seems to have made a slight difference
