  6. Hi Ray, I have has a few that have failed as well and have looked further down the list and saw that they were installed successfully. Also check the update list (I believe you can in Windows 8) and see if the update in question is still listed there. They may have removed and or replaced it with a different update.

  8. What software are you using to burn to the disk? Does it display any error message if so what? Has the software ever worked using the disk and have you tried using different disk? How old is the DVD drive? If you have a head cleaner use it there may be a film on the lens that may be preventing it from writing. Do you have any re-writable CD and or DVD? When I am testing different setting to burn disk I use them so I can erase the disk and try different things. This way I am not wasting to many write once disk. To use Windows 10 to burn disk (Not as easy as using software) Open File Manager and locate the files you wish to select to Burn to the Disk Select the file and Right click and Hover over Send To From there select the DVD drive and the following screen may come up if it does then Title the disk if you want to and I usually select the CD/DVD option. Then Next. Now if you have more files to select then all you have to do is Select the file and or files Then Select the file and right click and Hover over Send To From there select the DVD drive and the following screen may come up if it does then The Burn a Disk should no longer pop up. Once done selecting files Select the DVD Drive Make sure that all the files are there. From the top menu bar select Finish Burning.
  9. Have you tried to write with a small amount of Data to a disk to test with? What is the total amount of Data that you are attempting to write to the DVD most software will not allow you to burn more that what the disk can handle. Have you tried burning through windows?
  10. When you get new hard drives they are blank and you will have to install the operating system for that computer plus the drives in the proper order and any other software you have had installed.
  11. I fully understand the frustration as well. Windows USB/DVD Download Tool are the instructions and program that will be needed to create the USB drive to install Windows 8.1.
  12. In the system do you know if it is a SSD or HDD? How did you move the files Start Windows Adminstrative Tools Disk Cleanup Bottom left select Clean Up System Files Select the More Options Tab Under System Restore and Shadow Copies click Clean Up... Click Delete Go back to the Disk Cleanup Tab Put Checks in all the boxes Click OK May take several minutes depending on the amount of data it needs to go through.
  13. Have you already downloaded the Linux that you can to use? Linux Mint might as well get the file and create the disk (USB) so we are step ahead
  14. Not a problem glad to help.
  15. See if this helps this way if you want you can reinstall Windows 8 OS and you will need to goto the system manufacture site to get the drives. Download Windows 8.1 Disc Image (ISO File)
  16. Depending on what we are planning to do with Mint there may be no need for an install just create the USB and use the live version. FYI when you are booting into the Live version of Linux it will take a a bit longer to load unlike it would if on a main drive.
  17. No issues no complaints.
  18. Sorry been away for a while. Will be in and out for a while. @KenB You may also want to try the Robocopy command The only way I can think of that it may have happen is 1. Command not put in correctly. 2. Did you use the Admin Command prompt? If you run the bootrec on C: use the bootrec /ScanOs this way nothing gets changed.
  19. Sorry about the confusion there then the same question is the reason that the command may not work since it is not ran under the proper version of the OS that is installed on the affected drive?
  20. Is this command being ran under Windows seven or Windows ten?
  21. When you shut down are you still running anything or have just gotten to the desktop and not given the system a few minutes to completely shut off the programs that were running.
  22. A format will wipe the data from the drive hold off on that. Select a file to start from. Scroll 6 six to eight files down. Hold the shift key and then select the sixth or eight file. Release the Shift key and use the keyboard and press Ctrl+C (copy selected files). Now open the folder that you created on the other for the files to go into and press Ctrl+V (paste the selected copied files). I usually do six to eight since some systems have issues transferring more than that (sometimes). Now select the file just below the last file selected and select the next set of files to transfer. Yes you can get the same battery. That is a good sign.
  23. Yes it is a combined unit. Let us know if you need any help setting up the new modem.
