  1. It was stated in the first post that the fans and lights all appear on. Naz, insert the old RAM and then pull the CMOS battery (the small watch battery) out for 30 seconds (while the PC is off) and then re insert the battery and then power on.
  2. Hi Sue, Are you launching the game from a shortcut or the disk? Are you leaving the disk in the drive when you try and launch the game?
  3. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  4. The MOBO having power at the time is not an issue, as long as the PC is off then its fine, if the PC was on as in CPU running etc, you would have heard some sizzling as you put the RAM in and then a sharp tingling feeling  When you insert new RAM it is best to clear the CMOS (But if the system is overclocked or you have any specific setup take note of the changes as these will be lost) Are you 100% sure that you purchased RAM that is compatible with the MOBO as in the speed and size (GB)
  5. Replacing a fan would not cause any kind of issue unless it has disturbed something, does the fan use the standard 3 pin header that goes into the MOBO or a MOLEX? If its a Molex then it will be a passthrouh which means that it needs to be connected between a PSU cable and a device (use an optical or similar as opposed to an HDD as this can cause issues) Hope this helps :)
  6. An 'unmountable boot error' is picked up after the POST, if no HDD was detected it wouldnt pass POST :p
  7. It should be able to be deleted if you restart :)
  8. Glad we could help and that its all sorted out :)
  9. Have you checked in the BIOS to see if the HDD is visible? Have you tried continuosuly tapping F10 to see if you get the safe mode/safe mode with networking etc to come up?
  10. Ok where the + is next to error, click that and it should expand and show you exactly what the errors consist of. It will be software RAID (It's easier to configure)
  11. There should be a EXT button on your remote that has all the External channels, these normally include:- PC HDMI (however many there are 1,2,3 etc) SCART (again, however many there are) etc etc
  12. You will be missing the Crystal Oscillator Crystal oscillator - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, they can be resoldered easily http://www.premiumusb.com/images/blog/inside_USB_BIG.jpg
  13. Are the Keyboard and mouse USB or PS/2 ? You need to be using PS/2 and an adpater will not work.
  14. What software are you referring to that cannot be used on any other OS other than 2000? As for the MOBO drivers etc, they can be downloaded/ should be able to be downloaded from the MOBO manufacturer such as BIOS updates, sound, ethernet, chipset, GPU (if it is onboard etc) When you replaced the PSU, did you have a look around where the 20 pin ATX attaches to the MOBO, if it has blown something it is normally visible by scorch marks, or by the capacitors bulging/leaking. Worst comes to worst I would just try and purchase an exact replacement of the MOBO you have.... all the drivers etc will be the exact same, you would just need to configure the BIOS
  15. An error would show as a Red X with and when you click it give additional info. Are both the drives just plugged into the MOBO and then accessed via the BIOS ? or are they plugged into a PCI card?
  16. Does it give any additional info on the error? have you looked in event viewer? The problem with RAID 0 (striped) is that it takes a chunk of data and splits it across the 2 drives. so if you had 10 'chunks' of a file 1,3,5,7,9 would go on one disk and 2,4,6,8,10 on another (this is meant to speed up performance, but in reality its not much) are you using hardware or software RAID?
  17. I would say that the HDD is dead then, if you have it set in the BIOS correctly and havent moved any of the cables in the case. Its not uncommon, how old is the HDD?
  18. Hi and welcome to FPCH :) A mod will move your post later as it shouldnt really be in intros, but that error is related to RAM, run Memtest or something similar, or if you have more than one stick take all out except one, run windows and your game if you get the same thing repeat the process with another RAM until you get the error that is your 'bad' RAM stick. It 'could' be the RAM on the GPU if the stick RAM passes :)
  19. I personally would not buy half of that kit even in a bundle - the MOBO is very poor by some of the i5 boards around. I cant do this now as I am not at home, but I will post a decent spec later around the what you have looked at, also remember that you are going to have to set aside some money for an OS unless you have one already? Also if there are any parts from your older PC that you can re use that would be good such as the HDD, Optical etc
  20. WOW is a very non demanding game in terms of GPU power needed. What size is your monitor and at what resolution do you want to play it? At the very most you are looking around the £100 mark
  21. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  22. So you go into the BIOS and under the BOOT section, there are listed:- first boot device CD/DVD ROM second, third, fourth etc are all disabled then you SAVE and EXIT the BIOS and it doesnt even try to load the disk?
  23. Looking at the pictures of the back of the drives no, they both look like standard 40 pin IDE (or EIDE as 40 pin are known)
  24. This normally happens because you have the boot devices set as the MOBO (standard) would see them:- Floppy (hardly anyone uses these anymore anyway) CD-ROM HDD USB or other what you need to do is set the first one to CD/DVDROM if you are trying to boot any OS disk If you have an OS on a HDD, you 'ideally' need the HDD set as the first boot device and then disable the others... Always remember to SAVE and EXIT the BIOS The windows response for 'unmountable boot error' is here Unmountable Boot Volume
