  1. So are you now running the new MOBO with all the other components? have you reset the MOBO yet? - pop the CMOS battery out for around 30 seconds and put it back in. Are there no beeps at all when the PC is booted? and welcome to FPCH :-)
  2. How sure are you that the network you are accessing is yours? if you want to completely stop NORTON on a temporary basis then you can untick anything in the msconfig area that is labelled symantec.
  3. Steve, why are you wanting to run Linux in the first place? dependant on your reasons for wanting Linux - I would upgrade to XP rather than Linux
  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY :D
  5. Geoff, be very careful with registry programs 9/10 they cause more harm than good.
  6. Have you looked in the control panel and then the device manager and seen if there are any yellow exclamations next to the sound devices. It's better that you have Vista - try doing an updates update - start - all programs - windows update - there should be some updates in there under 'optional' updates. Download them and then restart, let us know how you get on. and as Wolfey says DO NOT TAKE it to PC WORLD as they will charge you a fortune!
  7. When you first input the code there should be 2 tick boxes asking:- 1 - if you want to save the network. 2 - if you want the password remembering
  8. It is recommended that you get Graphics card drivers for laptops from the manufacturers website as they are 'problematic' at best
  9. Hi Donna, Welcome to FPCH :)

  12. Hi Snooky, and welcome to FPCH :)
  13. Have you checked that the alignment of the drive itself is ok - whip the side panels off and make sure that there are at least 2 screws in each side of the drive - it may be sitting slightly to one side.
  14. As a last resort you could flash the drives firmware - to expand on this you need to go to the maker of the drives site and there will be a section called firmware, you then run the exe within windows and it wipes the firmware on the drive and then it creates a newer one that basicaklly makes the drive able to detect newer disks. (as it overwrites the previous firmware it can help fix many problems. **If this is not performed properly and the pc is turned off half way through etc it can render the drive inoperable** This is an example of the Pioneer firmware page Software Downloads - Pioneer UK
  15. We have seen this before on laptops - the 2 partitions are normally the C drive with the OS and programs on and the D is a partition for storing larger files - On most laptops now its more common to have a recovery partition than a set of disks to recover from.
  16. I would recommend acronis it's about £15 from scan.co.uk
  17. not really no - more for diagnostic purposes

  21. Hi Keith, there are so many sites and so many variations of the Satellite laptop that I would use EBAY, BUT buy from a seller that is a company. You may also find it cheaper to order from the states as we get a higher rate on the £ and the shipping is normally only about £5 ;)
