  1. I cant see the pictures at my current location, but if what I think you are referring to - if you navigate to C:/Nvidia there will be a folder in there that store the errors.
  2. Pioneer devices are known to need firmware updates - how old is the drive? here is the link for firmware Pioneer PC & Pro Blu-ray, DVD/CD Writers for PC if you do need an upgrade make sure that you follow the instructions completely as they can render your drive inoperable
  3. The HDD light staying on is not a good sign at all - please recheck the HDD cables - power and IDE - do you have any splitters on the HDD power lead?
  4. Welcome to FPCH :) I would suspect RAM over CPU - will look at your spec when you post and advise further.
  5. There is also an option in the BIOS that is called initialise display type - and the options are VGA, PCI and PCI-E. as Seth has said if you have an add in GPU - would say it's PCI-E - make sure it's set to PCI-E and if that doesn't work then change to VGA mode if you have onboard graphics.
  6. Bonnie - I thought you were the quiet, reserved type :D
  7. Most parental control software is easy to get around if a child has a modicum of intelligence - I personally would set up another user account and restrict all the options that way - through your (administrator account)
  8. scrambled eggs with ham - so essentially an omelet :D
  9. Very good Doug- sadly I will never try this technique as I hate hard boiled eggs - scrambled or poached only for me :D
  10. I agree with Wolfey on this one - if you can get into the BIOS then 'load optimised defaults' and then set the first boot device to HDD and 'save and exit'
  11. IMHO - in terms of safety for backup purposes - RAID (Mirrored) is by far the best way. I know it is not suitable for everyone as you need to buy an addition drive (of the same size and make and model number) but if one goes bang, it's just a simple case as boot the other in the BIOS.
  12. Right - have not been online for a while - but I had a feeling this thread would be shifted :D The bottom line for me is that you are better off with a SUITE/STANDALONE AV that has REAL TIME PROTECTION - and AVAST is an excellent example of this. Knowledge is key and yes it is true that you only get knowledge by either being burnt or by research. People do not have the background knowledge of AV programs and normally just pick one thats either pre-installed or a FREE version - it's not a secret that FREE versions are not as good as paid versions are they are mostly behind the times. As Maynard knows I did an experiment the other day on my PC - I have windows live one care - I downloaded MB and SAS and ran both on my system and they came back with Sweet FA. And on that note - MY SUITE coupled with my knowledge (not bigging myself here) - is just as good as a standalone AV and Firewall with MB and SAS :D
  13. Hi Mara - Welcome to FPCH :) No question is too silly - as we have all been there.................at some point :D
  14. Also you mentioned that you cleared the CMOS - did you go back into the BIOS and set the options again ?.
  15. Have you updated your graphics card/onboard driver? Also what is the size of the pc monitor?
  16. Belated happy birthday ;)
  17. Welcome to FPCH :)
  18. Yes, it should be off by default but some of the routers that I have had to have a look at they were set to ON as defualt  and thats the only reason that they were unable to connect to the internet and kept getting a drop in connection after 20-30 seconds and then the ''page cannot be displayed error'' Just thought that this may eliminate a problem - especially on Netgear routers.
  19. Go Here and run the registry fix Restore Winlogon\Userinit and see if it will solve the problem. Restore Winlogon\Userinit Line #263 right side http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
  20. you know this is not always the case - every system is different, as are the Viruses and the damage they cause.
  21. Seth, Once she has installed NOD32 if the problems remain, then she can at SAS and MB. there is no point in doing it before you install NOD32 as there is a high probability that NOD32 will clear them upon installation.
  22. Right - there have been a few people experiencing Netgear routers dropping in connection - by far the most common reason for this I have seen is settings within the routers home page, I taken some screen shots of my Netgear router and where the settings are to add MAC codes for the PC's/Laptops that are trying to access the router - If you are unsure what they do there is also an explanation on the page on the right in blue that explains in detail what each one does... http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/net1.png http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/net2.png http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/net3.png
  23. Seth, Since you wrote that sticky, I am sure you are aware that Malware and Spyware is advancing - Nod32 has also advanced since that time and I am sure will be more than capable of removing what Bess needs it to.
  24. No problem, and if none of the fixes work then you will have to do a fresh install of XP rather than a repair - one of the 2 suggestions offered should fix the problem - as they are both linked in terms of the problem you describe.
