  1. Nope, you cant just add in faster rated RAM. You would need to OC the system aswell as the RAM, you wont physically notice any oomph from increased RAM speed anyway (not in the speeds you are talking of anyway)
  2. Are you using onboard graphics or an add in card? if you are using an add in card try the onboard. As you cannot see if the BIOS is posting (which would indicate life in the MOBO) you would need to eliminate the GPU as a faulty part
  3. it wont knock you socks off until you come to overclocking :D you wont visibly notice the difference
  4. It used to be the case that consoles were not liked because of the pricing on the games - games now for PS3 and 360 can be on offer from £5 - £10 :D
  5. Why is it impossible - the first post I put was under the presumption you have an AM2+ socket - use that spec and get an AM2+ socket I dont normally recommend AMD as people know, but for what you initially required budget wise - go with that
  6. Well - nice arguments for :D No one starts out now with an AMD board - we always advise Intel, AMD sockets and Intel soclets do not move as fast as they used to. AMD around the time of socket 754 could not be shifted, untill the 775 from Intel - which BLEW everything AMD had to offer at it out of the water and it still does anyone have an AM3 they want to Benchmark against my Quad? And Intel now have the 1366 (i7 for anyone baffled with the numbers :D) Well lets be honest there are always 'fanboys' for both Manufacturers - I used to be with AMD and they lost me at socket 939 when I went over to the darkside of the 775. Anyone looking to build a budget system or a full blown gaming rig need look no further than socket 775 can you say the same for AMD :D In cost and performance - you have no argument Intel 1 AMD 0 Until AMD build GPU sockets onto a MOBO (this will happen people) I will not be moving - AMD have to concentrate on CPU and GPU Intel only on CPU I have said it from the beginning AMD buying ATI was a bad idea, the only time it will become a good idea is when GPU sockets on a MOBO happens and they will blow everyone away - BUT the technology is not there yet!
  7. Have you now gone from looking for a basic system - to something a bit more? Give me your budget and I will get you something together
  8. What 2 OS are you planning on running XP and then VISTA has to be done in a specific order and setup correctly or you can end up in a huge mess
  9. when you removed the old drivers for the Audio - did you re configure the software as windows doesnt normally do it - its got to be something simple even like the frequency being too high for your speakers
  10. In all honesty the hardware 'supposedly needed' for Windows 7 is not really needed for windows 7 if you get what I mean, hardware develops much faster than software and by the time Windows 7 is actually at a stage Vista is now - they will be working on something else! Save your money and get an awesome Vista Quad rig :)
  11. It used to be the case that AMD were better for gaming - but no longer - Intel wipes the floor with AMD at every corner! If you are just going to pick basic parts and want it as cheap as humanly possible, I will do this in the morning for you ok.
  12. Also - are you plugging the Mic into the front ports or the back of the Motherboard? If the PC was built for you (most people, myself included dont hook them up unless asked to)
  13. Hi and Welcome to FPCH :)
  14. I doubt the MOBO will be causing any lag Lags are normally created by software and not hardware, hardware that can effect lags are RAM, CPU and HDD There have been lots of issues in the past with Quads being used on certain MOBO - but these resulted in hard crashes, not lock ups. I would say the next thing to have a look at would be the RAM voltages and timings - adding an additional 2GB of RAM normally requires this anyway
  15. Where to start lol I sometimes (normally OS) get heavily involved in the BETA testing and in all fairness its not as good as I expected. It has far too many errors and underlying issues, as you mentioned its just a slightly different version of Vista with some additions. Vista Beta was a disaster, Vista RC1 was shocking - RC2 was just a totally transformed version of the Beta and RC1, that impressed me as they had a lot of time to make changes and get it right. Windows 7 Hmm not convinced Beta stages were only 2 months ago and as you say its being released (if on time) in the 3rd quarter And the Windows i7 Hardware is more of a debate for me. My mate has an i7 setup and mine wipes the floor with it at a fraction of the cost :D
  16. Ok let us know how the BIOS backdate goes, but I would guess that wont make a difference either - Sound drivers and BIOS updates are meticulously tested before being released. You issues must lie elsewhere - have you run a dxdiag report?
  17. Right - forget the above as you have a 939 chip Scan and Microdirect dont do 939 boards anymore MOBO Asrock 939N68PV-GLAN/M/ASR nForce 630A Socket 939 Motherboard - Aria Technology The Ram for this seems stupidly expensive and has gone up lots. I would recommend using the spec above this post and buying a newer CPU in all honesty or you are throwing money away
  18. Sorry I missed this post - Right lets assume you have an AM2 socket chip MOBO 52020-01-40R - Sapphire Pure Element, AMD 690V, Sok AM2+, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 800, Micro ATX, On Board Graphics - Scan.co.uk RAM 2GB Infinion DDR2, PC2-6400 (800MHz), 240 Pins, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, CAS 6 Retail - Scan.co.uk DVD-RW Samsung SH-S222A/BEBE 22x DVD±R, 12x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, IDE Black OEM - Scan.co.uk PSU OCZ PSU 500SXS StealthXStream 500W (3 year Direct Manufacturer's PowerSwap warranty)- microdirect.co.uk Cracking offer on the PSU - All for £113.69 not including Delivery I have just double checked the CPU codes and its socket 939 DOH
  19. You dont need to change the BIOS back - just download and update the audio drivers from the ASUS website
  20. Dear God - havent we had this convo - its rubbish mate
  21. The BIOS flash can indeed disrupt the audio - you will have to reinstall the audio driver and then reinstall either an updated version or the most up to date. If you are unsure how to do this please ask
  22. Hi and Welcome to FPCH :)
