  1. Ouch - the problem with that is that the MOBO or and the CPU could have popped aswell. unless you can test them in another machine first you wont know until you plug the new PSU in
  2. Right lets clear this up:- In order to fit an HDD into a case that only has optical drive spaces which are 5.25 inch seeing as though all HDD's other than lappy ones are 3.5 inch you need to use the brackets as said by spools, you attach them to the HDD to make it 5.25 inch and install the whole unit. You cannot just screw a HDD anywhere - you need to take into account the fact that it gets hot and that it vibrates. If you have bent all the caging on the optical (5.25 inch) slots then yes you will need a new case
  3. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  4. Ah a local - I was born in St Mary's so welcome :)
  5. You need to tell us the make and model of the PC - or is it a custom build? with the above we can find you the right drivers.
  6. I would go with the Arctic Freezer 7 Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 Processor Cooler - Ebuyer!! This will cool a quad core overclocked to 3.3Ghz - just ask DirtyPolo - ;)
  7. If you are not getting any power to them - open the case and check the molex cables are in tight - when you boot the PC the lights on the drive should at least flash - if not then there is no power from the PSU reaching the drives
  8. IE is not an intensive program at all and like you have mentioned as long as the actual fans are working which yours are ( and then some :D) it shouldnt be overheating - if the CPU temps seem ok - then just set the fan to kick in higer than it does at present Not too high though as you dont want to cook the CPU - if you have a small fan on the heatsink they are much noisier and whiney than the bigger fans
  9. For most games its RAW GPU power that counts, Guild Wars is a very low requirement game (funnily enough I am Dalo Harkin on there :D feel free to add me) the fact that the DELL is also widescreen will make the games look much better as its a higher res, which will be complemented by the GPU, have fun and I may see you around GW ;)
  10. Hmm, finding the missing files is one thing - recovering them is something else
  11. BeeCeeBee is along the right lines, you need to have a look in the BIOS and check the CPU temps as I am guessing they are sky high or your fan may be set to kick in lower than needed. Either way you really need to upgrade the fan and heatsink IMHO as you can then also put some new thermal compound on.
  12. Dependant on where the PC and the TV are in relation to your house - you can run an HDMI cable from your GPU to your TV and change the display within the driver software
  13. Hello and welcome to FPCH - When you say V-Tech I hope you refer to the B16 - best 1.6 engine ever made.
  14. I'm glad for your sake it was something simple - be VERY wary of tuneup utilities
  15. Hello and welcome - will have a look now at your thread :)
  16. I would think that when you removed the drivers for the GPU they were say NFORCE drivers and this is for the Ethernet too normally. Oh and get something better than AVG free as its not very good at all - AVAST is much better
  17. Hi Mark - GPU is what will make the games look better and be smoother looking. The GPU on the DELL the 3450 will blow the 8200M out of the water! Given that the DELL would be the best for gaming. NOTE it does not have as much storage, so you may need an external at some point ;)
  18. Seems to me like someone installed your windows 7 to your recovery partition and then when you 'got rid of it' you wiped the whole drive.
  19. Have a look here Using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in Windows XP
  20. what you are quoting on the old PSU of not exceeding 235 is what that PSU is capable of - you need to make sure that's not the reason your PSU popped. Can you do us a quick list of whats in the PC - failing that go for higher than you need say 300Watt -
  21. It all comes down to what you want to use the system for. Mirrored RAID is for backup/safety Striped RAID is for speed and faster transfer rates. and JBOD is what most used as its easy to set up and doesnt effectively lose you any space
  22. Can you please give us some insight as to what you were doing on the PC before this started happening as this can be vital. Failing that, you have a hardware issue, and its most probably linked to the HDD
  23. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  24. The biggest issue with media centre pcs is that as they are designed to be such compact units you pay a premium for the parts, a decent media pc case will not leave you much change from £100 The fact that you want to use it for artwork suggests to me that paint wont cut it and as such you need a good CPU and a good GPU and these coupled with the other costs are just well over £300
  25. Im not convinced the top of the CPU touches the picture listed. Banana pants - you need to help us out here - as you fitted it - can you remember if the CPU was resting against this plate? Those thermal pads as Scott mentioned are also used to make the distance between the top of the CPU and the heatsink smaller - desktop PC coolers always fit much better.
