  1. right - lets clear something up :D Norton is one of the most used and most targeted FW/AV suites, thats reason enough to stay away from it, but lets not forget they own Sygate (one of the best firewall programs around IMHO :)) The ghost program is also a good one - have a look and see what you think, you may be surprised
  2. If you found us - I am guessing that you are not having a happy time computing :D Welcome :)
  3. It still draws off the USB mate :)
  4. Here you go - Drivers & Downloads
  5. Your PSU may not be able to cope with all the USB devices you are using - it uses a specific rail within the PSU to give it power, and I doubt that the EHD is getting enough juice. Unplug all the other USBs that are not needed - printer etc. and then try the EHD - Hubs are not a good thing to use - especially for EHD as they require a lot of power.
  6. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  7. When the 'repair' took place - what did they actually do - did they run a recovery colsole if there were any? it sounds to me like they have removed the chipset drivers for the MOBO - you will have a CD that came with the laptop like 'tools and utilities' or 'drivers' the problem you will have is that if the drive is not recognised it will not read CD/DVD's - what is the make and model of the laptop?
  8. as the others have said someone has put the password there either the manufacturer or the person that had the system before you. There are ways around the ''password'' issue but we cannot tell you here due to our policies. It sounds to me like something in the BIOS is preventing the use of your HDD, I am right in saying this is just a USB drive yes? and that you are not connecting it any other way?
  9. You may also want to look at Norton Ghost I hate Norton with a passion ok, but this is a good program
  10. Also I would not recommend 'storing' the details.
  11. Hey, The card you suggested is fine, if you are not planning on playing games etc -
  12. Unless your CPU was being underclocked, it would make no difference OCing the CPU - So your issue was the CPU and not the GPU which is uncommon. are you sure it didnt overclock the GPU and not CPU?
  13. Please can you tell us the MOBO as previously asked for
  14. There are so many different things going on here - did you make sure the RAM installed is all the same speed?
  15. Sorry - just re-read this - right use the USB port as Maynard suggests - make sure you put it in the right way.
  16. Right - if it crashes try pressing Ctrl,Alt and delete to get the tak manager and then close the game process. Are you 100% sure that the disks are clean and not scratched Also you wrote ''Insert dvd , browse it using windows explorer ; then I use the set-up exe icon ; then there is the option of using the CFS3 disc to get the CAB files So you have one DVD - yet the game developers used more than 1 disk - how many disks do you have? Its not working as I suspect its not genuine
  17. Ha ha - read Intel Vs Nvidia war mate :)
  18. I agree with Match - surges in power can take any part of the MOBO out, try a USB keyboard and see if it works - failing that you MOBO may be damaged
  19. What MOBO are you using as Q6600 chips do not really like many of them.
  20. To be honest shrimps the normal 'faulty' part of a lappy power supply is actually the pin at the back where you plug the PSU lead into - they get all wibbly and dont make proper contact with the MOBO. some PC shops will replace them - but most just say its goosed to avoid having to do it. you can check if its that if you want to remove the cover and see if any of the soldering is loose on the legs :) And you are right - loss of time is the BIOS -
  21. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  22. Have you checked windows update? and have you been disabling anything in startup or disabling processes?
  23. HDD's are easy to replace on a lappy - you will be fine, and we are onhand to help out :)
  24. If you are looking to overclock the CPU - which from the RAM I guess you are :D I would go for the P5Q pro. The Q6600 will still set you back £140 ish though and make sure you get the GO Stepping one ;) or you wont get a decent OC And I would use the Freezer 7 pro as it will keep the OC stable to 3.3Ghz
  25. Also dont keep using a defrag as that wont solve the issue, but make it worse - defraggs stress your HDD So let me get this right - the 'company' you took it to said your HDD was corrupt, so you bought a new one - took it back after the SAME issue started happening and they said it was the Soundcard that took the MOBO out - so you bought a new one and they fitted it. Did you or they reinstall the OS after the MOBO went in as they should have and if they DIDNT - dont ever go there again!
