  1. Its all down to the MOBO drivers - if you replace the MOBO on any system, you need to do a fresh install - everything else CPU, GPU, RAM would be ok - its just as its a new MOBO - Slave the drive on another pc and get any data off it that you need and reinstall the OS on your new build Its a pain, but anything else is not worth the hassle.
  2. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :)
  3. If you boot the PC - there is a section on the post screen that says post count. If the CPU is overclocked then some PSU's and MOBO's can be fussy and boot on the second or third post count - you do not have to physically turn off the PC for this though. It sounds like the PC is unstable in supplying Voltages - check this is the BIOS as there is a section and it will show all the Voltages supplied and what they are meant to be eg 12V - post the results for us please
  4. Lol - I think he means a DXDIAG test
  5. TOOTECH made it there before me You may want to put it in some kind of sandwich bag first, the above mentioned idea makes the bearings in the arm stay in one place rather than moving, it only very rarely works
  6. It sounds more like you dropped a screw behind the back of the MOBO and the pop was the transfer of some electricity into the case. I know its a pain, but wiggle the case (gently as to not dislodge anything) if there is anything loose you will hear it wiggling about, you could take the MOBO out and check, but this is a pain if you have alot connected to it. The only other thing is if one of the PSU wires is frayed and shorting on something, either way its very dangerous and needs looking at  Wear rubber gloves, and huge wader wellies :D (If you choose to do this you must upload a picture)
  7. So the GPU is a little tempremental - what happens if you leave the GPU at the factory overclocked speed - does it not boot at all? I agree with Tootech - this is not likely to be a RAM issue and sounds GPU related
  8. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :)
  9. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :)
  10. I do agree in some respects that if its not broke why fix it, BUT if you are using an add in GPU you need to keep on top of the drivers for it - they do more than just boost frame rates they stop any unwanted crashes and bugs in the driver that previous people have had
  11. There are some issues with the fact that they are analog controllers. There are details to configuring a 360 controller
  12. Tootech is right - your board supports upto 16GB of RAM so no issues there and it supports the speed too. When you have more than 2GB of RAM - the MOBO needs to adjust the voltages and timings for them all to work. You say that only 2 work - do you know how to check which channel it is thats working? Take 2 of the RAM sticks out (RAM is matched on the board normally by different coloured DIMM slots normally 2 say red and 2 say yellow - remove both RED and see if it boots - then MOVE the 2 red to the 2 yellow if that makes sense and see if it boots - this Rules out that a set of RAM iss not faulty and that a set of DIMMS is not faulty and come back to us please and we will advise further
  13. As Barry has said the problem with USB mice is that they do not work until the Operating system is loaded and even then, drivers are needed for the Operating system to even make it work. Get a wired mouse as a back up they are literally £2-£3. Make sure that it has a PS2 lead and NOT a USB mouse with a PS2 adapter as that will not work. Hope this helps
  14. I did fail to mention the MAIN update of MS auto updates - everyday when the PC boots :) And I have to admit they are getting better with the optional hardware updates.
  15. If I am understanding right, you are referring to a DVD-RW - a dvd that you can put data on and if needed re write over the data. I think that you are confusing a DVD-R (single use) with a DVD-RW (multi use) other than that ALL disks will not burn right to the edge or they shouldnt as thats when issues arise a 4.7 GB DVD should only take around 4.4GB of DATA Hope this helps, and if I have misunderstood, please detail more precisely
  16. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :) We have plenty for you to read here if your son causes any major problems, you might want to have the malware sticky saved as a homepage :D
  17. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :) We all started somewhere............
  18. There are only a few places you actually need to update drivers:- MOBO manufacturer (ASUS,MSI etc) GPU maker (ATI or NVIDIA ONLY) SOUND CARD (manufacturer CREATIVE 99% of the time) Driver searchers are dangerous and a waste or time and normally cost money and dont update anything!
  19. Any loss of life is tragic - but the fact that it was caused purposefully makes it far worse
  20. He he - I use a special type of pen - cant remember what its called but it can write on Glass and allsorts - think it was abour £5 for 3 at staples or somewhere like that.
  21. You need to have a lightscribe drive and compatible disks too for that to work doug You can buy blank CD/DVD that are printable, you can also buy printers that have a special (template type mould) to put a disk into and the printer prints directly on top.
  22. I personally can't think of a worse way to die, I genuinely feel for the peoples families and loved ones. Such a waste of life, as Bob12a said words cannot explain.
  23. Which of the GPU's do you have the Monitor plugged into? If we say BLUE or ORANGE as per the MOBO layout for clarity
  24. Hi Shrimps, All good points - AMD chips are no where near as powerful for the money - Most AMD chips now are slower than there Intel counterparts and cost more - so its a no brainer really. ATI again are cheaper and faster than Nvidia at the moment Entry level laptops and towers are seperate things - you are very limited in with laptops unless money is no object, there are not really that many customisable parts, where as with a tower you get to choose the fastest parts and bang them all together for a reasonable amount - laptops are different as you cant really choose anything to be replaced other than the CPU and GPU and RAM.
