  1. Hi, I wanted to go into safe mode on windows 7 but it kept stopping at classpnp.sys . After reading a few threads I read about using Msconfig and checking the safe mode option under "Boot". It still keeps staying at classpnp.sys and when I hit F8 and hit "Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)" it seems to be able to get trough and it says it's actually loading up safe mode but then it changes to a black screen and does not change from that screen. I would appreciate and information you guys have that could solve this problem. If any of you know a command I could type in cmd to bring up the msconfig while in repair mode I could fix it because all I need to do is untick "Safe mode on startup" More...
  2. Hello. In any window if the view is set to Details there are columns in it of course. Almost all the time they are not as wide to see all the content in each of it. "Size all columns to fit" option is very handful in this situation, BUT it's too annoying to do it in each folder. Is there a way to set this option by default? When I open any window with Details view, or change a view in already opened windowed to Details view - all columns will be automatically set to fit their content. More...
  3. When renaming a file, changing the capitalization doesn't do anything e.g. if the file's name is "ABC.txt" and I change to to "abc.txt" it doesn't work, although if I hit F2 again is shows "abc.txt" not "ABC.txt". This is a subtle bug but it's annoying. Any Ideas how to report this bug to microsoft? I'm using Windows 7 Professional More...
  4. After lots of research on the Internet, I couldn’t find a straight-forward method of extracting files from a Windows 7 image backup (this is the full backup, not the file and folder backup). I finally got it working without any additional programs! Here are my instructions. Hopefully they can come in handy for when you don’t have any files in Previous Versions, or you don’t have another backup of the file you lost but you have it in the image backup. This procedure may not work with Vista as Windows 7 supports VHD disk mounting through Diskpart. I don’t think Vista does. You must be logged in as an administrator (such as the first account made on the computer when you installed Windows 7) Go to the Start menu > Computer, and go into the drive where you made the image backup Right-click the WindowsImageBackup folder and go to Properties Go to the Security tab > Advanced > Owner tab > Edit... Select your username, and check Replace owner on subcontainers and objects "OK" everything and close all windows Go back to the drive where you made the image backup, right-click the WindowsImageBackup folder and go to Properties > Security tab > Advanced In the Permissions tab click Change Permissions... Select your username, click Edit... Tick all the Allow boxes then OK Tick both bottom boxes then OK "OK" everything, close all windows UPDATE: And with credit to Proton2's reply below, we need to mount the backup image as a drive. To do this, open the Start? menu, right-click on Computer and select Manage In the left pane, under Storage, select Disk Management Go to the Action menu, then Attach VHD Click Browse..., go into the drive where you made the image backup. Go into to the WindowsImageBackup folder, then the [NAME OF PC] folder, then the Backup [DATE] folder. There should some .VHD files in there. Select the one with the largest file size and click Open, then OK. It will now have mounted in Computer as a hard drive. You can browse through it and retrieve your files! When finished, we need to dismount the VHD drive. Go back into Disk Management as before, find the drive from charts on the bottom pane (such as Disk 3), right click on where it says the disk name (such as Disk 3) and select Detach, then OK. All done. Make a new backup from scratch (delete the old one) if you like since we messed up its permissions. More...
  5. The PC installed the update, went to reboot. Upon reboot, system was stuck on "Please wait". After waiting a significant time, powered the PC on into safe mode. After safe mode booted correctly, restarted normally. PC booted up fine. At the assigned time the system tried to install rollup update KB4457144 and failed with the error code 0x80073701. I have tried other fixes such sfc /scannow and the error keeps occuring. I am at a loss. More...

  7. I have i7/HT processor and run resource-hungry simulations on it in Win 7 Pro environment. The problem is that while the simulations are multi-threaded they create threads by pairs and quads in a time. The software quickly create 2 threads that are usually dropped on the same physical core, on one virtual cpu after another. I've heard that in the past MS was changing HT enumeration order depending on OS and even OS subversion (i.e. 2000 and XP, XP and XP-server, they have different enumeration) Is it possible to change enumeration order via some tweaks in Windows 7? What are predefined CPU/HT enumeration orders in various Win7 versions? (e.g. Home, Pro, Ultimate, various Server subversions) ? Currently I have 1A,1B,2A,2B... enumeration on Windows 7 Pro. And I dramatically loose performance. It would have some reason Netburst architecture, but absolutely unreasonable on i7 with unified L3 cache. The optimal would be: 1A,2A,3A,4A-1B,2B,3B,4B, where A&B are for HT virtual cores. More...

  13. We have a few users experiencing graphical issues. Sometimes they have a white bar on top of their Windows Explorer and their browser apps. A temporary fix for the browser apps is pressing f11 twice. But is there a permanent fix? We are connected to a local domain. (No Azure or something) I am one of the IT guys here. Till now 4 of the 100 have that problem. They are running build 10.0.15063.1266. Al drivers are up to date. And it only happen on web browsers and sometimes the file explorer. More...
  14. Shortcuts copied to C:\Users\Public\Desktop only show up for standard users if "show hidden files and folders" is selected. We recently started a major push to get migrated to Windows 10. We're about a quarter of the way done, with about 750 machines now running 10. Unfortunately, I just uncovered an odd problem while trying to copy a simple web shortcut to the public desktop, which is that it won't show up on the user's desktop unless "show hidden files and folders" is selected in view options. It went out to Windows 7 and 10 users alike, and works just fine for Windows 7 users. In fact, in cases where people have both a 7 and a 10 workstation, it works on 7 and not on 10. I've poured over Group Policy, and don't see anything that seems to relate to this. Is there some change in how objects get redirected to the users desktop in Windows 10? More...
  15. Is there a way to image a Windows 10 OEM image (Dell in this case), to then restore it to the same OEM machine, just with a smaller hard drive? I'm replacing a mechanical drive (500GB) with an SSD (250GB), but want to restore the same image. The amount of used file space on the current 500GB drive is only 120 GB, so it would fit on a 250GB file system. More...
  16. Win10 Pro not on a domain. Just trying to unpin tiles for games, weather, xbox, etc. I have to set up a lot of these and usually just r-click and unpin works but sometimes it gets stubborn and the tiles I delete come back. Sometimes within seconds, sometimes just next time I pop-up the start menu or next time I boot. Not looking for anything tricky like a policy to change this, just want win to do what it should. Found lots of threads similar but not the same, about user pinned things or wanting a policy to push on a domain. Nope, these are just the built-in tiles that on a few random systems won't go away. It's an admin login. Win is activated. What can I do? Thanks. More...

  19. Good Everyone Group, I built up a new computer today to the latest Windows 10 Anniversary build. I want to transfer my old Microsoft Sticky Notes from my old computer to my new one. Previously all I needed to do was to copy the directory C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes StickyNotes.snt from the old computer to the new computer. I have tried this and this does not appear to work anymore. Now there seems to be a new folder for sticky notes C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe and for the life of me I do not know how to import this file. I was hoping someone might be able to help me in the right direction with this. Is there any way to import legacy sticky notes into the new Microsoft Sticky Notes. In addition, it seems like there is a limit on how many notes you can actually store. Is there any way to over come this. I have quite a few... Thanks in advance for any assistance. More...

  21. Dear Microsoft! In our company we use Secure printing to box with shared Develop printer. (Konica Minolta) The print server is Windows Server 2012 R2. The driver on every workstation is configured to print with this option, there is set up the User ID and box number to store the document. When I try to print jpg file the Quick Print option, the picture dont appers in box. The printer job log shows, that the Windows dont use the printer driver setting configured to my user and sends unknown user box code to printer. (Which user of course doesnt exist on the printer user list.) Searching the web the code is ([1000020150]: ID & Print box), which is the code of the function, not the user box code variable set up in driver. Printing docx, xlsx(Office 2016) , or pdf (Acrobat Reader) is working fine, only with the embedded jpg Quick Print function is the issue. Sometimes the print job crashes the print server queue too. It seems this is a bug in Win10. The workaround for users is to not use the Quick print option with jpg-s, but we cannot deny or configure the function. Please help! Thank You. More...
  22. All, is it possible to move a windows partition to the left (and then resize)? I tried gparted and then repair the boot loader as in boyans.net and neosmart (mostly bcdedit), but it failed to boot. The machine used MBR. The system reserved partition was C: and Windows in d:\windows. I used bcdboot d:\Windows /s c: first and later device partition D: and os partition D:. Chris More...
  23. I have a client who until a few days ago could scan a document, and have it automatically start Outlook and attach the scanned file to an email in Outlook This stopped working and began starting Windows Live Mail (WLM) instead. I checked thru the scanning software and it only calls MAIL and testing reveals when I right click a File and id="38">choose Send to Email it too starts Windows Live. I have undertaken Making sure the default mail client is Outlook in Win 10 > Settings > Application Defaults. Changing the above to WLM, restarting, then back to Outlook restarting and testing. Checked the registry that this is set as the default according to the above. Making sure the Send To Mail Recipient hasas its only command Checked in the registry that MAIL references Microsoft Outlook. Renamed the MSMAPI32.DLL and forced outlook to recreate it. Executed an app suggested in these forums from WinHelponline called fixmailrecipient.exe. More...
  24. Windows 10 Ltsb is the best version of Windows 10 to play games on, cause the frames in the games are much more smoother, compared to Windows 10 pro, it is actually quite an difference in smoothness! Also, i?ve noticed temperature drops on my gpu and cpu, when gaming, compared to windows 10 Pro. But alas, Windows 10 Ltsb does not contain Creators Update, So no Dolby Atmos for Headphones or Hdr, which is quietly really sad. So i would ask you, could you please add an update, which patches the Creator Update to Windows Ltsb? More...
  25. Dears, I need your help in a strange case with two of my domain accounts, were on the same day two of my users tried to log into windows using their accounts, but windows showed them a message that either username or password is incorrect. so I went to ADUC and changed their passwords, but the same message keeps on showing each time I use their accounts to log although I made sure I am using the right password and username. I also checked if the accounts were blocked but they were not blocked. I tried another user on the same device and it logged just fine.( I used a user other than administrator and never been using that device). I in joined the computer and joined it back to the domain after restarting for sure and it didn't work. I also tried to use their accounts on other devices, but the deivce gave the same message. I tried to reset the computer and didn't work too. can you please provide some suggestions to that problem. Regards, Haitham H. Sanber More...
