Hi, i hope you can help. I have been trying all day to suss this and i just cannot for the life of me get this to work. I work in a school and our students cannot/should not have access to search app's on the start menu. Firstly, can we disable apps from being searched on the start menu? (attached a screenshot below) https://imgur.com/9gaeBL3 So far i have Disabled the search 'box' on the task bar Disabled cortana via GPO - Even though this does nothing from what i can tell. Added a disallowed file rule in the path of cortana within c:\windows\systemapps - This works! However when a user logs in, the start menu is not clickable for the first time a user clicks the bottom left button. Although if the user closes the start menu and re-opens it. The start menu works totally fine. Another screenshot here to show the start menu greyed out: https://imgur.com/7MZZVmO In short, all i would like to do is remove APPS from the start menu! or un-grey out the screen when a user logs on. Thanks, Joe. More...

Dear all, as we deploy more and more workstations with Windows 10 Pro (Build 1803) I want the users to have the same SSO experience as they currently have with Windows 7. Unfortunately I can't get SSO to work with Edge. I already added several entries to the ADFSProperties like Edge/, Edge/17 and =~Windows\s*NT.*Edge but still Edge keeps asking for credentials. I also tried "Set-ADFSProperties -ExtendedProtectionTokenCheck None" (is this even necessary and secure?) but to no avail. I sure also restarted the ADFS services. Any hint what I could be missing? Where could I have a look at (logs or similar) to maybe find out why the SSO challenge seems to fail? Strangely we have one workstation with build 1703 where SSO works. More...

Hi Team, I need to uninstall MS office 2016(Windows store app) which is pre installed in the new PC. I did uninstall Microsoft Desktop applications from apps and features, which removed the ms office 2016. But When I login with other user profile again i am getting the same app visible again. Is there any possibility to remove this app completely from a machine? I already tried this script but its not helping. https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/deploymentguys/2013/10/21/removing-windows-8-1-built-in-applications/ More...

Hi, I use RDP for the most of my daily work to connect to four other PCs. My local PC is used for mail and RDP, that's it. I'm using Windows 10 version 10.0.17134.228 I can use RDP fine for maybe a few hours and then the local taskbar will plant itself over the RDP sessions, making it SO hard to use the RDP sessions that it becomes unusable. I've tried all the methods that other people have recommended, restarting explorer.exe etc. and making sure that the local machine has no notifications and NOTHING works. When we use RDP, surely we don't CARE what the local machine is up to, it's just a means to use other machines without interruption? Is there SERIOUSLY no way of stopping the taskbar in Windows 10 taking over the RDP taskbar? Can this be rectified in an update? I was praying that the Anniversary update would solve this but no :( Any help to resolve this would be appreciated as this drives me NUTS on a daily basis! Many thanks! More...

Hello, I am using the following registry settings on a Windows 10 Ent x64 LTSB 1607 system that are pushed via GPO. The policy applies fine, however the desired effect of automatically logging in does not work. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon DefaultUserName=xxxxx (reg_sz) DefaultPassword=XxXxX (reg_sz) DefaultDomainName=PleaseWork (reg_sz) AutoAdminLogon=1 (reg_sz) ForceAutoLogon=1 (reg_sz) Delete AutoLogonCount Restart Computer The computers are domain-joined. This method worked fine in Windows 7 Ent x64 but is not working in Windows 10. If I utilize the tool from Sysinternals (Autologon), I can get almost the same behavior that I had in Windows 7, with the exception that it only automatically logs in on a reboot. If I click "Sign Out" it just goes back to the login prompt. Additionally, if the computer is Wireless only and using user authentication to WiFi before login, neither of the autologin methods work, whereas they did with Windows 7. Any suggestions/solutions would be amazing More...

Hi, when i make new shortcut for download folder with *explorer* and *space* in front of the path name, right click on folder and pin to taskbar, when the download folder open, at the same time open another folder (separate) "this pc" and i don't know why. This happens on W8.1 not on W7. On W7 it's very simple (with the same method but on w7 it work well). I have try many methods, but none of them work. Have any idea of how? Image example: https://image.prntscr.com/image/aNHdMlXSQO_jRwhhDT1-aQ.png Image: left folder is the pinned folder, and the right folder icon opens when i click on the left folder (W8.1). Thank you. Ok, I'm probably not the first person to ask about this. Why on earth, can I not see any of my connected network printers under 'Devices and Printers' of Windows 8? The devices are without question, 100% connected and registered with the OS, as evidenced from their presence within the 'Print Queues' section of Device Manager, and various software packages, when accessing the 'Print' dialog. I can't even find any evidence of the printers within Print Management! What is going on? More...

I want to schedule a windows task to run when a secondary output device (e.g., VGA monitor or HDMI A/V receiver is turned on or off) but I'm not sure which event should be used for this. I found something related to network cable plug/unplug here How to launch a command on network connection/disconnection? basically, the event is Log: Microsoft-Windows-NetworkProfile/Operational Source: NetworkProfile Event ID: 10000 for connect and 10001 for disconnect but couldn't find anything for external audio/video devices. Any such event or events exist? If not, any other way to do this? Thanks More...

Hi I have a Windows 8 laptop and all of a sudden Internet Explorer has started opening the window really tiny. Not aware of any changes I've made and all other applications are fine. It seems that the packages of .Net Framework - Update KB4340558 - are damaged (wrong or missing hashes). Install fails with error 0x80092004 on Windows 8.1 clients and Windows Server 2012 R2. Also KB 4054566 (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2) seems affected. I've now round about 10-20 confirmations around the world. One user found a log entry: “Couldn’t find the hash of component: NetFx4-PenIMC” So I guess, the package is damaged/botched internally. I summed it up with the blog post .Net Framework: Update KB4340558 drops error 0x80092004?. Guess MS need to have a look into the package. Gru?/greetings G.
