It seems that the packages of .Net Framework - Update KB4340558 - are damaged (wrong or missing hashes). Install fails with error 0x80092004 on Windows 8.1 clients and Windows Server 2012 R2. Also KB 4054566 (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2) seems affected. I've now round about 10-20 confirmations around the world. One user found a log entry: “Couldn’t find the hash of component: NetFx4-PenIMC” So I guess, the package is damaged/botched internally. Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied. Hi all, I got me an Acer Iconica w3..... New little 8 inch tablet. Setup like any other machine. Connected to my Windows home server or Windows Server 2012 essentials. Tried to run a backup using the server connector. Backup failed with the subject VSS error in the application logs. I also tried the built in backup Windows 8 backup under control panel labeled Windows 7 File history system image. No dice with either. Investigating the error, I found some tests to confirm permission - all passed. Trusting the error message to be accurate (permissions problem) I see direction to make sure the VSS service is started (I started and changed to automatic) and to grant explicit access in the registry. I also see suggestions to grant the Network Service explicit rights to the computer using dcomcnfg. No dice. I've flattened and re-loaded. Actually on a second machine with a newer image from Acer (first machine had a bad microSD socket that would not eject). 2nd machine exhibits the same symptoms - failing to backup Compared settings to another Windows 8 machine - VSS service by default is manual and no explicit permission grants were in place. e.g. changes above were unnecessary but made just the same as part of trouble-shooting Clearly there is something more fundamental that I'm missing? All other machines are running Windows 8 Pro or Enterprise. Okay, we are now getting Windows 8 PCs and laptops. We are trying to do what should be simple: create a shortcut to an Access Database and have that shortcut pinned to the tak bar and be on the Start Screen.This does not work. 1) If we try to just right-click and select the "Pin to Takbar" option, it is not there. 2) If we open the database and right-click the access icon on the task bar, it will pin... HOWEVER... when the user actually tries to open the database with the now pinned icon, an error displays saying that the database cannot be found. 3) If we create a shortcut, there is no option to pin that either. So, how do we do this very rudimentary task: have an icon that will directly open a particular database both for (1) the task bar, and (2) the Windows 8 Start Menu? Okay, wait... we just discovered we can place the shortcut in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ Why is this not available on the context menu? This is a major bug IMO. More...

hello recently i have an issue with my windows 10 machine. everytime i start the pc net framework 3.5 ask for the pc to restart to install the software, but after rebooting the pc it asks the same question again like some kind of loop. i tried the offline installer and the network repair tool but it doesn't seem to fix the problem. so i was wondering if anyone has the sollution to this problem. thanks in advance. This is not necessarily a question but more of a statement. Microsoft, I installed fresh install of Win 10 pro. I ran Edge for a bit and it was pretty fast. I needed to look at video on youtube, oh... I'd say about 3 minutes after I installed windows 10 because that's what we do with freaking browsers!... And guess what I got... "NO SUPPORT FOR VIDEO FORMAT ERROR"... that is stupid Microsoft. I will not trouble shoot it, I will not look on a forum to figure out why it isn't working, I will not spend one ounce of my time trying to fix Edge browser not working with Youtube. I installed Google Chrome and guess what? It works fine. If you want to be accepted by the masses you need to support the masses out of the box. I need to be able to boot win7 directly. How do I do that. I can change the default between the 2, and I can reduce time to 0 to make it "look" like I'm going directly to 7, but it still is going through 10. Put another way, I want to be able to delete win10, which was not updated from win7 but was built from an 1803 iso.. I had win7. I added win10 as another partition and it set it up so that I could boot to either, but it has to go to win10 first. Need to eliminate that. We have found that since installing the fall creators update (1709) on our computer's on-screen touch keyboard is too small. Previously we were using the following reg keys to make the keyboard larger.... I have just changed from a machine with WIN8 and IE11 to a new machine with WIN10 and IE11. Using the old machine I was in the habit of starting up a video playback, but then pausing the video. The video would then continue to fully load, allowing me to come back later and watch the video, skipping rapidly through it as I wished as I played the video. However, taking the same steps with WIN10, after the video is paused it only continues to load for about 30 seconds, it does not load all the video, thus frustrating my wish to skip through the video later. I'm sure the intent is to save on downloads or battery life, but I want the old functionality. Are there settings I can change, or anything I can change, to return to the old functionality?? More...

Virtual desktops switches desktop automatically and unwantedly when opening/closing applications Hi! It's great that virtual desktops are a native feature in Windows 10. I have a problem with the desktops with certain applications which I describe in the following. I open e.g. a Microsoft Excel document in desktop 1 and then move focus to desktop 2 (which is empty). If I then open another Excel document in desktop 2, it switches automatically to desktop 1 where the other excel document is open and opens the document there. This behavior is infuriating. I work on many different projects during the day and may have to switch between them quickly. I would like to keep the documents of project A on desktop 1 and the documents of project B on desktop 2 and so on. Of course I can move the windows between the desktops to organize them, but this automatic switching is very annoying and sometimes causes confusion of which document belongs to which project. At least Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat behave this way. (Also File explorer behaves this way if I open the same folder in another desktop.) Is this automatic switching caused by the applications or is it a feature in the virtual desktops itself? More...
