I think Microsoft could learn a lot from this company. With all the talk of "the cloud" at the moment, and Microsoft's two overlapping products (FolderShare and SkyDrive) that they seem reluctant to merge this provides a great example of what a SkyDrive desktop client could be. Up the storage from 2 to SkyDrive's 5 and integrate FolderShare features and you have yourself a killer cloud storage service. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

IE7 Vista SP1 insane memory usage
NewsBot posted a topic in Microsoft Products Support & Discussions
Lately I've noticed that my PC really seems to slow down over time, more than usual. I've found the culprit, IE7. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii240/trix_1520/wtf.png This is with 2 tabs open, Channel9, and my online OSU course page, which uses no fancy ajax or anything. I did browse neowin.net, live.com and digg.com. I just do not get how the result can be such a high memory usage. I tried this with no extentions and a similar result happens. I do have Flash, Silverlight, and a Live Writer Extention listed. I haven't really noticed this until about a month and a half ago. Did SP1 change some IE7 code? Did some hotfix? What happened? I hate the web browser. I can't continue to use IE7 if I have to restart it in the middle of my homework. I like Firefox 3 Beta, but since it is new and had some major rendering changes, sometimes it doesn't work with all webpages, plus it is ugly. Opera...well it doesn't work with my school pages. Does anyone else expirence this, I have one friend who seems to, but everyone else uses firefox so I really have no comparison. If no one else does expirence this, then wtf is wrong with my computers (my desktop and my laptop). If it is an addon, it is either Microsoft's fault or Adobes fault still (though it still does this with "no addons" mode). In anycase this is driving me nuts. Additional Evidence with no CPU usage http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii240/trix_1520/wtf2-1.png More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds -

I've got a sharepoint 3.0 site running and have gone through all of the usual steps to get annonymous access running, with no luck.* W2k3 Ent, sql 2005 stand db I'm using windows authentication, on a domain/AD.* WSS is in a farm (one web, one db server at this point, both member servers). App pool is running under network service, but same issue if run under a domain account that is admin on all farm servers. Intranet zone users pass through/authenticate fine (url as machine name), but if using the ip, or the FQDN, users get prompted. Regardless of zone, kerbos, ntlm etc, I can not get annonymous access. I'm not an AD guy - is there an AD/Policy setting that would be preventing me from allowing Annonymous access? No problems allowing it for a standard website, just under WSS. I will eventually need to create a registration page and use a mssql db, but for now I'm simply trying to grant read/view. Thanks for the help - EZ More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

A little over a month ago, Mary Jo blogged*about a rumoured spherical Surface Machine that may or may not have been shown behind closed doors at TechFest. If I'm not mistaken, that's visible for two seconds at 3:57 in this video from Microsoft Research: (Courtesy of Long who goes on about some new kind of desktop search.) Is this a first glimpse of the consumer version of Surface? The sphere looks kind of... desk-sized. Apparrently, the device itself is a Magic Planet display from Global Imagination, but I don't see any mention of touch capabilities on that site... Early prototype? More... I am using Visual Studio 2008 Professional on Windows and G++ on Unix. My program compiles in both of them. I have the following class definition in my header file: template class SearchableList: public list { public: *** int count(_Ty needle, int start = 0); *** bool inList(_Ty needle, int start = 0); *** void cycle(); *** void rcycle(); }; I wrote the SearchableList class to extend the C++ list class because I needed more functionality than it provided and I wanted to familiarize myself with the C++ list class. This is the first time I have ever used inheritance, so it took a few hours of googling stuff and trial and error to create external member functions for the class that would compile. I have the member functions in a searchableList.cpp file, which has the following code: #include "header.h" template int SearchableList::count(_Ty needle, int start) { *** int answer = 0, i; *** //Make sure that starting variable is within range of list *** start %= this->size(); *** for ( i = 0 ; i < start ; i++ ) *** { *** *** this->cycle(); *** } *** for (* ; i < this->size() ; i++ ) *** { *** *** // Check to see if we have a match *** *** if (this->front() == needle) answer++; *** *** // Cycle List *** *** this->cycle(); *** } *** return answer; } template bool SearchableList::inList(_Ty needle, int start) { *** return (this->count(needle, start) > 0); } template void SearchableList::cycle() { *** this->push_back(this->front()); *** this->pop_front(); *** } template void SearchableList::rcycle() { *** this->push_front(this->back()); *** this->pop_back(); *** } My program relies on (most) of this classes' member functions. It compiles without a problem, whenever the linker is run, I get a linker error. I have been using workarounds that rely on the parent classes' methods, but it is getting to the point where I cannot do this anymore and I must to be able to use this classes' member functions. Here is an example of a linker error that comes from using one of the member functions: 1>recordArray.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol "public: bool __thiscall SearchableList::inList(int,int)" (?inList@?$SearchableList@HV?$allocator@H@std@@@@QAE_NHH@Z) referenced in function "public: class SearchableList __thiscall RecordArray::getSemesterList(class std::basic_string const &)const " (?getSemesterList@RecordArray@@QBE?AV?$SearchableList@V?$ basic_string@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@std@ @V?$allocator@V?$basic_string@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$ allocator@D@2@@std@@@2@@@ABV?$basic_string@DU?$char_traits @D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@std@@@Z) 1>C:\Documents and Settings\Richard\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\hw4\Debug\hw4.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals Note: I added a few newlines to the above text to make it fit in channel9's post area. I also get a similar linker error from G++ on Unix: g++ -o hw4.out main.o read.o record.o recordArray.o recordList.o searchableList.o Undefined********************** first referenced *symbol**************************** in file SearchableList::inList(int, int)recordArray.o ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to hw4.out collect2: ld returned 1 exit status *** Error code 1 make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `project' Would someone please tell me what is wrong? More... Hello all. I have a WPF UniformGrid, and I want to add buttons to it. However I want each button to fill to the size of its container, so that for example if I have 4 buttons, then the 4 buttons will fill the entire area of the unifromgrid, with just a small gap between them. At the moment, I cannot get the buttons to stretch. I have tried the Margin setting, but it does not help Many thanks More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Recently i have been trying all kinds of fun stuff, for instance yesterday i spent a few math classes and most of my spare time, playing with C++. But i have always wanted to master a technology for building websites. Sadly, asp.net web forms is a black art which is just not trivial, as i see it. So i have surfed the internet and found RoR and ASP.net MVC/Monorails. I like VB.net, but Ruby does seem kinda cool. It could be cool to learn. Im already fluent in VB.net and C#, som im thinking it would be good to learn ruby, so i learn a dynamic language too. But the power of the .NET framework would be tough to live without. So im wondering, should i learn Ruby(On rails) or should i do ASP.net MVC OR Monorails? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

New here but I can't find this... I'm watched the first video of Zoe and the interview process at Microsoft. I want to see the rest of the videos in the series. I've used the search tool, but all I see with keywords "Zoe" and "interview" are text replies to said videos. Is there an easy mechanism to find the rest of the videos in the series? Thanks. More...
