Sims 3 is coming out soon! Help!
DirtyPolo replied to Cturner4's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Nvidia used to dominate the market, but now you can get an ATI card that runs just as well if not better than the Nvidia alternative, for a lot less $$ :) £100 is about $150 I believe and that is for the HD4850, the card I personally have, and it will run that game and any other of the lastest games perfectly :) and this will work in your machine fine :) -
Sims 3 is coming out soon! Help!
DirtyPolo replied to Cturner4's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I have just checked again and I must apologise, in my haste to reply I only scanned for figures on the link you gave me. If you will forgive my mistake, I would like to carry on with the fact that you are indeed correct that your processor WILL run the game. As for Graphics cards, I would opt for an ATI graphics card as you get better performance for your money compared with Nvidia. The ATI's verison of the Nvidia 9600 and the 9800 is the HD 4850 and the HD 4870. the HD 4850 can be found for about £100 and the HD 4870 for about £140. If you still wish to get an Nvidia card, please say so and I/We will do our best to advise which is the best one you should get according to performance against price :) Thankyou and sorry about the mistake I made earlier. One thing I will disagree about though, is that you cannot have 2GHz of RAM, as RAM is measured in capacity which is either in MB, or GB, and your machine contains 4GB of RAM :) -

I doubt it will be a CMOS battery issue as you have replaced the mobo with a new one, asusming that you did not keep the old CMOS battery and fit it to the new board when you swapped? Include that with the evidence that the machine worked for a few weeks before going again, shows that all is fine in the battery department.

One thing I will say, is that if you are intending to play newish games, then your processor isn't fast enough at 1.8 GHz, as with the lastest games needed over 2GHz, just as an example, on the back of my Fallout3 case it specifices a processor of 2.4GHz as minimum spec. Also your system only has 1GB of RAM, it may benifit more with gaming aswell as everyday tasks if you added in a second stick of 1GB to give you the boards maximum of 2GB RAM But if you intend on playing older, classic games then it should be okay but for those, you wont need such an expensive graphics card either.

Ahh yes, thankyou Nev, that just crosses my mind as I logged in just :P

Hey Nikki, Your motherboard will support a single PCI-E expansion card, if this is not already in use then you can add in a graphics card that uses this port. This is a Nvidia 9600GT, it is a slim card at only 19mm x 230mm, will this fit in your machine? [size-wise] Hopefully someone else can contribute to this as my strongest toic is not slim line cards or PCs :P

IP trouble or port trouble??
DirtyPolo replied to tharper's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
The different IP addresses will not be causing your problem Tanya so don't worry, as the 192.168.2.x is the IP between your PC and your router. and the other IP address, 24.215.x.y will be the range of IPs that can be assigned to your Pc when you connect to the internet. I, myself cannot offer much advice on this issue as I do not have the knowledge but we do have people who will able to get back to you with some ideas and/or solutions :) [Moved to Gaming] -
What "popups" do you mean? can you describe them? What are you doing when they come up?
-
Hello David and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help! When you took the system apart did you also take the CPU out? or leave it in the motherboard?

Okay well we know it's not a problem with you specifically, as I too get that same error. I believe that it has just been written to only view in IE, such as the Microsoft Windows Update website. Have you been able to view this site before in Firefox? -

I'm guessing you are using firefox when trying to view this site? what site is it may I ask? -
Sure, if you want to carry on this issue then create a new thread in the PC building section, but as a quick reply I can say; -Make sure you have good air circulation in your Case. -That you have a good cooling fan, as 3.3GHz is about the maximum you can OC this processor with air cooling. Your mobo seems perfectly capable of it as does your PSU so no need to worry, but as I said, create a new thread in PC Building if you want more details etc.

Yes that should be fine, if you swap the current EU lead for a UK lead then it should work fine, no problems
-
Hey JungleJme and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, It should be fine, Just need to check and make sure for you :)

Hey slitwrist, before you follow Beeceebee's advice, If you are not able to follow the instructions in normal boot mode then you may have to do it in Safe mode To do this; *Reboot your system and as it is loading, tap the f8 key continuously, this should give you a list of boot options; *Select Safe mode with networking. *Then continue and follow the advice in the above posts about antiMalware :) *It may be best to download or print out a copy of that now, before you reboot into safemode, to make things easier. -Take note, when you are in safemode, the screen will look weird, large and funny, but don't worry, that is how it is meant to be :) Please try this and get back to us with any results :D

Well if it does come to the situation of restoring the whole machine, you can save those valuable files and photos onto removable storage, such as CDs, USB Memory sticks, or an external hard drive. But first let us try and fix the problem :) When you say it runs slow on start up, do you mean BECAUSE of Avira? or that it just runs slow anyway? And Have you run a scan using Avira since you have installed it, and gotten rid of anything it found?

Sounds good Trevor! :P Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Forums! :)

Some monitors are programmed to turn off after a certain amount of time on their own, but if it has only just started doing this, then that obviously isnt the problem :P When it goes off, can you not just turn the monitor off and then on again to wake it up? And has changing th settings to "never" stopped the machine from going to sleep too?

Replaced Motherboard and No POST.
DirtyPolo replied to bindo245's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Glad you found the problem and hope the replacement works :D Hopefully when it's all up and running you can come on and let us know if the problems are fully fixed or not :) And to Dalo, Opps! :) But my PSU only has a 2x2 connector it fit in there! no such thing as a 2x4 on my PSU! Lol.. Am I at fault for only having the 2x2 then? -
Okay, well taking Dalo's advice and turning into a few steps to make it easier to follow :P Please do the following first: Open the device manager, by doing the following: Go to Start Then click on Run Then type in Devmgmt.msc This will open up Device Manager, Look down and expand [click the +] by Display Adapters and tell me if any of the items in the list has a yellow "!" beside them? If so, which ones? Also do you know what Graphics card your system has? if not, do you know how to find out?

Personally, I don't think that you should feel the need to future proof a system with 64-bit OS's yet as there is some time yet to go before they will be fully compatible and by then another, better more stable [hopefully] OS will be out such as Windows 7 being worked on at the moment :D Stick with 32-Bit as then yes, you can be fine with 2GB of RAM which would save you money too :) and you wouldn't loose any performance :) If anything you will gain because 64-bit is not compatible with everything 32-bit is :D And as Dalo said, Creative would be a much better choice for a sound card. Also if you don't intend to OC, you could get away with using the stock cooler on the CPU and saving £15, but if you don't mind spending the extra £15, then you will get a much better cooler which is a lot quiter and more efficient :P And you cna still stick with 8500 RAM if you want, even if you don't intend to OC you can still benefit from the 8500 as they are about the same price as 6400. But it's your choice :) we're just here to advise not decide :D
