Establishing Net Connection Automatically
BeeCeeBee replied to swagatopablo's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Did you check that the network is set properly to connect? -
Hi Mara, It looks like Goku has you pretty well sorted out with your driver issues and I hope that all goes well.:) The fact that you put this into a hardware forum points out a misconceptions that many people have regarding the word "drivers." A far better word for drivers would have been "interpreters" or "translators," all they are, are software programs designed to understand the individual components of your PC and translate your commands into a language that the component can understand and act upon. I hope that is helpful. I am going to put this thread into our software forum so that others with a similar problem can reference it. :)

Cannot load anti-virus software
BeeCeeBee replied to D_Joey's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
We have a very effective process That should clean things up for you, D-Joey! Please follow the steps below and get back to us with the results. Your computer is probably infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup Steps Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/printer-selection.gif ____________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2) Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode" On the left hand side, Click on Tools Then click on the Resident Icon in the List Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts. Restart your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 2 Follow these instructions carefully. Download ATF-Cleaner from SCANWITH.com to remove un-needed temporary files from your computer that may contain malware. When you run ATF-Cleaner, check the items as shown below for Main. For FireFox, be sure to click on the FireFox tab on top and check the items as shown below for FireFox NOTE: If you don't have FireFox or Opera installed then they will be grayed out and can be ignored Then click on "Empty Selected". http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner01.gif . http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner02.gif __________________________________________________ STEP 3 Install and run the free version (not the Professional version) of SUPERAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com Accept any prompts to allow SUPERAntiSpyware to install the latest rules and infection definition files. You do not have to send them your e-mail address, just click next. You can leave the automated check for updates on. You can uncheck "Send a diagnostic report to research center" if you don't want to send the information. DO NOT allow SUPERAntiSpyware to protect your Home Page settings. On the Top Left select the Scan your computer button. Make sure there is a CHECK MARK on all Fixed Drives. Click "Perform a Complete Scan". Click "Next" to Repair issues found and reboot the computer when prompted to do so. __________________________________________________ STEP 4 Install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Malwarebytes - (direct download) Accept all defaults for the installer Allow the program to update the definitions Click on the Quick Scan and click Next. If any items are found allow it to clean them and then Reboot your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 5 Run an online scan with ESET from Free Virus Scan: Use ESET's Online Antivirus Scanner You must use Internet Explorer for this online scan. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan. If your computer is running Window's Vista, then you must first start Internet Explorer as an Administrator. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select "Run as administrator" from the popup context menu. Accept the terms and click "Start". Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications". Click "Start" to begin the scan. When completed restart your computer __________________________________________________ Make sure your internet firewall security is enabled, and then please return to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. At that time, you will receive instructions to assist you in removing malicious programs from your Add/Remove program list if warranted. If required this is the download link for TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Unless instructed to by the Technician helping you then do not download this tool. Once you and the Technician agree that your system appears to be clean then you should delete all your System Restore points and recreate a new one. Please follow the instructions here How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows XP How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows Vista -

Well Mara the way he is looking up at you, he is yours to keep. Might make a nice avatar if you want to be seen that way. In any event consider him a gift no need for ebay. Barry -
is it possible to share files, virus protection
BeeCeeBee replied to bill strong's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi bill, In order to do any sort of file sharing you need to create a home (or local network) being connected to the same router does not count. Creating a network with XP and Vista can be done but it is not quite the same as just following the wizard for one or the other operating system. I do not have vista but am sure that the method will be posted here at some point soon. Antivirus and other malware protection has to be installed on each PC. -
Is the XP that you reinstalled the original OS for the Dell? Not just XP home but the same XP home.

mgb if you think you have an honest beef with Microsoft you are going to have to call them and explain. If they accept your explanation and get you activated that is between you and them. All the signposts point to a futile battle but only you know how the software was acquired. If you come to us looking for cracks (and I am not suggesting your are at all) I'm afraid we neither can nor will help.

Welcome j........!:) too many letters to remember. We may need to know a bit more about what you are experiencing and a bit more about your system as well. However some of what you say seems to indicate that you may be having malware problems. (Browsing issues in particular) I suggest you follow the procedure set forth below and get back to us with the results. If the problem remains we can then look into other causes, etc. Your computer could be infected with Malware. The 'mouse' is actually very odd ...
BeeCeeBee replied to Mara's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
See Mara this is where you go wrong. The mouse I suggested is not a typing mouse he is only trained to run around the screen and click on things. If you want a typing mouse you have to send it to secretarial school which is a fairly expensive.:D Seriously though, I use a wireless mouse and as a result received a Christmas gift from the chairman of Duracell. BUT I have a laptop and can always rely on the touchpad as much as i detest it. If you are going to use a wireless on a PC best have a spare wired one around. -
Welcome to FPCH arctic! Good discussion is as welcome as you are, very welcome!!:)

I voted for sleep but I am on a lappy where I can close the cover and go into hibernate. Sleep is not an option as such and when I was using a PC would always either leave it running or shut down.

Establishing Net Connection Automatically
BeeCeeBee replied to swagatopablo's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
If you have a router and you are using either an ethernet or wireless connection it should connect automatically without third party software. Just go to the network connections and make certain that your network is listed to connect automatically. Otherwise, what it that you use to connect? Is there a reason you have not installed service pack 3? -
Go to your control panel and open "sound and audio devices." There will be a box to tick on the page for display in the system tray or task bar.

formatting external drive
BeeCeeBee replied to ajackson269's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Sorry aJ I seem to have a sense of humor only I understand. What i meant was to simply delete the software in order to use the drive for data storage and backup. You need do nothing more. No link needed and no formatting. You can also do the same thing if you keep the software on the drive (maybe move it into a single new folder if you want. ) There is something in there that keeps wanting to autorun so I finally just deleted it. -
formatting external drive
BeeCeeBee replied to ajackson269's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I think what I did is put it all into a single folder and ignored it. Finally I realised that I had no use for it and just deleted the folder. I use it only for backup and have no problems at all. -
The issue King is not whether this particular piece of software is safe or not. You are a good member, post all the time and I am sure would never consider steering any other members wrong. My concern, actually, is for you. I would hate to see a post from you warning members against a bit of software and relating a horror story. The web is filled with this kind of software, it looks harmless and kind of cool. Screensavers, desktops etc. are known to be trouble.

Clipper even if we were willing to help you restore your system without cleaning and reformatting the drive, you would be more then likely faced with even more problems. Get it clean and new again and start over it will be worth the wait. In the meantime look at these recommendations make your choices and get them on board first thing. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/malware-removal-av-firewalls-etc/3597-free-pc-help-recommended-security-products.html This thread is now closed with the understanding that you are free and welcome to post a new thread if you need help with the reformatting.
-
Well that accounts for about everything. You downloaded the program or got it from a dodgy disk and it all looked good. The you applied the crack and everything went pear shaped from there. Dump the software and clean up your pc using the suggestions contained in your other thread otherwise we cannot help you. This thread is closed!
-
Did you not get any disks with this system? If not you are going to have to contact HP and get the proper disks from them. You need to wipe the hard drive clean and start over.
-
Sorry Clipper but you are your own worst enemy. We post recommendations that include excellent free antivirus programs yet you chose to use the least safe method available to get a program that many if not most people work hard to remove. That being said, you downloaded a torrent that you hoped would protect you from bad torrents and did so, apparently while the pc was totally unprotected. My only suggestion to you is to start over reformat and reinstall windows an do not install any further p2p software. If you don't want to pay for antivirus protection get Avira or Avast. This thread is being left open for the sole purpose of giving you direction, if needed, on how to perform the reformat. Any posts regarding how to solve your p2p created problems will be deleted. Sorry if that is not what you wanted to hear.

Hello Squeak, I admit that I know nothing about being a music producer but we really need to know what it has to do with wanting to overclock for additional speed. You have 2 threads running at the moment and that is fine. However I am beginning to sense that they are inter-related and that there is more to this. You seem to be unable to run some commercial software after a reformat that was made necessary by some unidentified problems. You have plenty of Ram and, while we don't know what the cpu speed is, it cannot be so slow as to need overclocking to run music software. You really need to tell us how you use your pc if you want meaningful help instead of piecemeal suggestions.
