  1. Often when you shut down your router so often it will reset to factory defaults. When it does it loses the WEP key that was given you when you signed up. Try re-entering it. The good signal is between your machine and the router and not the internet. Can you see your connection in your browser? There is, of course the possibility that the router is not functioning properly does it show physically as being connected to the internet? Have you checked with your ISP with regard to your account?

  3. I feel a reply is expected so here it is: Sleep is over rated. NiCads are annoying, better to just by cheap Tesco batteries. Has anyone heard of a laptop? Try them they are mobile. For that matter, has anyone heard of broadband? It stays on all the time and is great for making people think you are there. As for being committed they have already got me so that train has left the station. I do not require sleep and simply need to avoid direct sunlight and wooden stakes. And for Goku, my species can travel long distances in a very short time. Enjoy your sleep!!!:D
  4. Just a quick note here. You need to delete the temporary INTERNET files. Deleting temporary files will clear some space on your hard drive but has nothing to do with what you are experiencing. Last I looked 624 is higher than 250 but then that may not be true in a different time zone. :D If it is your quicken that becomes unresponsive and this does not resolve it, then Nev may well be right and you should try uninstalling it. I had forgotten about the previous infection.
  5. Jane you have sufficient RAM for your XP system and the cpu is certainly good enough for what you are doing and more. It looks like you are toggling a lot between several internet sites and your accounting software etc. I am guessing that you rarely delete your temporary internet files and your cache is probably set to quite a high number. Delete your temporary internet files (tools>internet options) click delete then select temporary internet files. Also on the general tab and right next to the delete button is settings, click on it and in the middle of the next small window you will see a number for Disk space to use. Make sure that number is under 250 and I would suggest significantly so. (100-150) Do all that and see if you get fewer non responsive programs
  6. I am not quite sure what you mean by running, Jane. A lot depends on the size of your cpu and the amount of memory in your system. If you do not know, just right click on "my computer" and then properties. What does it say on the bottom about your processor and RAM memory.
  7. Yes, your memory must be compatible with each other as well as your system. Somewhere along the line you have either mismatched them or mismatched both with your pc's requirements. It is also possible that something is wrong with the slot for the second ram. Your first step has to be to recheck to make sure that the new memory is the same as the old.

  11. The Speed of the memory ie measured in MHZ and should be easy to find on the label. I would guess that crucial got it right the first time. As for pagefile just right click on My computer and follow the arrows below. Minimum page size for 504 mb is 756 and the maximum is 1512. Of course if the memory is not compatible it will not be of any help. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/pagefile.png

  19. That is an almost impossible question to answer. From what I gather Asus is well known for its mobos and related hardware and a more recent entry into producing laptops. That can be both good and bad as they do not have a track record as long as Dell or HP, etc. But may also strive to produce a better than average system in order to build a reputation. One just does not know.

  23. Hi Fab, Take a look at the following and take the time to follow the instructions carefully. It is a highly effective disinfection program. Let us know how you make out. Your computer could be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup Steps Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/printer-selection.gif ____________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2) Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
