We have a number of people who may be able to help you with overclocking but I know that they will want a lot more system information than you have supplied. I suggest you gather up info on your mobo, graphics card etc. If it is a store bought system the manufacturer and model number would be helpful. What are the specs for the AMD?

It must be me getting old, but I fail to understand the point of programs like these. I understand wanting to customize a desktop and do it myself. But a log in page? Why install an entire program in order to change the appearance of something that you see for a few seconds. This one may be safe, I don't know, but are you aware of the many screensaver downloads that come packed with malware?

The fact that your profile indicates XP - Home seems to suggest that your RAM is probably insufficient as noted above both by Dalo and Nev. I do not believe that there is any provision for ready boost built into XP but I would think long and hard before using it as a permant solution for not having enough RAM. There was a good reason for screwing down our old non usb peripherals "back in nhe day" and it has already been pointed out that removing RAM while your system is running is dangerous at best. It would be helppful if you would actually tell us about your system and avoid further speculation.

Not being a UK resident I may not be on the right track, but over here (Ireland) Vodaphone,O2, 3, etc. all seem to have cheap contracts that include the hardware for mobile.

OK Alan, I have the same HD. Now this is going to be complicated so get a pen and paper. Here it comes. Dump the software. That is the entire process that I used. It is now just one big file cabinet. Sort of reminds me of Windows 3.01

Is the data on a sim card or in the phone's memory nick? There are sim card usb readers available at a pretty low price, If you stored everything on the phone itself you clearly have a problem. Is it only the screen that is broken?

While Mobile Broadband is generally used in laptops for the obvious reasons, the mobile actually refers to the network rather than its portability. I have met people in rural Ireland who use mobile broadband in areas where dsl based broadband is not available and it works fine. Be aware that the bandwidth is usually quite low.

Personally, I think he is not a bad guy at all, just out of his depth. I don't know what is in his (Cheney's) heart but I do know that I have lived now through 13 presidents (including Obama) and have never been more frightened by anyone as I was by this one Vice President.) I live mainly in Europe and in a country that was always been overwhelmingly pro American. It was sad how that has changed and heartening to see it return. Not being perfect is not an excuse for what has occurred over the last eight years. My rant is over now!

It is what he does, Jane, he comes here scares people and leaves. One guy got so angry (well you see the shape of his head) Just don't uninstall the old drivers and make sure they are included in your backup.

.Net Frameworks is somewhat similar to Java only a Microsoft creation. You only need it when you need it.:) Like Java it gets upgraded but does not replace previous versions already on your computer. I believe that you only need the latest version but please do not run to your "Add an Remove Programs" based on that. I am not at all sure that older web pages etc. do not rely on the version available when they are created.

According to the MS link below there are 3 versions all of which can be run on the same computer. Installing Multiple Versions of the .NET Framework

I may be the security settings in IE8. Which begs the question of why you are using a beta browser and not IE7. I would suggest uninstalling 8 and reverting back to 7 as a start and see if that helps. It would also be useful if you are able to install firefox. Particularly if IE7 doesn't help. If ff works for you we will know it is a browser issue and not related to your hardware.

Hello obtc, Unless I am missing something we have a problem here. You are using a friends computer. You are now looking for a work around mainly because ordinary methods are unavailable to you because you lack a password. Your friend's password. You see where I am going here? Unless you can provide some basis to refute my conclusion I am afraid we will have to discontinue support on this issue. I will leave this thread open for now to afford you that opportunity.
