  1. I love your humour H.B.E :) Good to hear that your daughter can access her files etc now. I am glad :) .......... Rudolph took this one of your roof last year after we had to call in the Fire Brigade !! http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/12/03/article-2517549-19CDF31100000578-946_634x649.jpg
  2. Hi Nick Android 4.2.2 Jellybean ................ I have no experience of this OS - sorry. This is diagnostic software ..........but no use on your system. Let's hope somebody here can help you more than I can :)
  3. Hi Nick I assume this is Windows OS ?? Please take a look here and follow the instructions - click here [ ONLY if your OS is Windows ] Post the MBAM and OTL logs in your next post. They will not fit on one post so use 2 or 3 if necessary. One of the security experts here will take a look and advise you further.
  4. Hi John Is the device recognised correctly if you plug it into another computer system ?
  5. Hi John Take a look in Disk Management and see if the drive is listed there This may help - Log on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group. Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK. In the console tree, click Disk Management. The Disk Management window appears. Your disks and volumes appear in a graphical view and list view. Try allocating a different drive letter to the drive if it is there.
  6. Yep - I think these machines have in inbuilt self-destruct too :) I put them on to make us all feel a little more festive :) Back to your question: Yes - you need an external enclosure [ caddy ] There are different types so be careful to order the right one. Your daughter's hard drive is a SATA ( older ones are IDE ........ different connections ) http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/pp118/kenbrabin/Hard%20drives/satadrive2.jpg You need a 2.5 inch SATA Hard Drive to USB enclosure click here If buying from Amazon check the reviews and also check where it is coming from - some of these sellers are not located where you think they should be. I bought a really cheap one some time back and it is still OK. Once you have everything off the drive that you need you can format the drive and your daughter will have extra portable storage for backing up photos files etc.
  7. Let's know how it goes :)
  8. Hi Craig Welcome to ExTS :) I have replied to your question re. Dell laptop.
  9. Hi and welcome to ExTS Remove the RAM modules. Clean the copper contacts with a pencil eraser and replace JUST ONE module. Try to boot up normally. [ With your particular machine the keyboard needs to be removed. Take a look here - click here ] If you get the same problem - shut down and swap the installed RAM for the other one and try booting up with just this one in place. Let us know how you get on.
  10. Hi and welcome to ExTS This should ALWAYS be a last resort ......... after all other options have been tried. Take a look at Device Manager - you are looking for yellow exclamation marks or red Xs. Start .....type in .....devmgmt.msc ..... hit ENTER. Click the > next to each device. Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
  11. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) Nev is our resident expert. I am sure he will be able to help when he logs in later. Please be patient until then.
  12. That's good to hear Steve. Merry Christmas to you and yours too :)
  13. Hi 5teve You can do this from the keyboard. Hold down the blue Fn key and press F7 ( this is what it is on mine ) There will be an "F" key with a square and a hand If you want to alter the sensitivity you can do this from Start > Control Panel You should be able to alter the settings here.
  14. That is probably the way to go :) There is another option: You can use the house ring main to extend the wireless signal. click here ( example only - not a recommendation :) )
  15. A point well made Ray :)
  16. It doesn't tell us much does it ? :) If the LAN connection is actually a card and not integrated into the motherboard you could get the information off the card itself. Failing that - it is always possible to buy one ( cheap enough ) and pop it in to an available slot.
  17. This is not a guarantee that the PSU is OK - there are 3 different voltages 12v - 5v - 3.3v If one of them is low you get problems. The D-Sub port is what we often refer to as the VGA port. Are you using this type of connection from the computer end ? http://www.eizo.com/global/library/basics/displayport_to_d-sub/03.jpg If you are using an adapter from a different type of output - it could be that that is at fault.
  18. Hi and welcome to ExTS You have tried the monitor on the Card and the On-Board and you get nothing at all ?? Is that absolutely nothing ? No writing as it goes through the POST check .....? Nothing at all ? This eliminates the monitor from the equation. Has this system ever worked since you bought it? If not - I suggest you contact the seller as it looks like it may be a PSU or motherboard problem. ( The fact that LEDs light up inside the case does not mean that the PSU is OK )
  19. Hi I have moved your thread to the Win 7 forum - it is more appropriate here :) ( Changed Win 8 to Win 7 too ) Download Speccy and run it. It may give specific details of your LAN card and we may be able to get Win 7 drivers from the manufacturer's site. If it does - post the details here. click here You want the free version. As Nev says - Win 7 comes with a host of drivers pre-installed. It may sort itself out.
  20. Nice one Nev http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/13828/thumbs_up_smiley.gif
  21. In that case - yes - you have done the right thing if you are trying to improve the gaming capability :)
  22. Hi You have me confused. You have posted this in the Win 8 forum and your thread title says "Windows 8 / acer lan driver" BUT - the text says that you originally had Vista - then put on XP - removed this and put on Win 7 ( or are thinking about it ) Which is it ? Win 7 or Win 8 ?
  23. I have been getting some on one of my email accounts. Reminder to others reading this ..... Remember: Banks etc will NEVER ask you to input secure details from an email.
  24. It is I who should be apologising - I asked you to run that check in my very first post http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/angry/bang-head-on-wall.gif
  25. Hi Louise You are welcome. Good luck - hope you get a result :)
