If this is the case I think you may need to add a line to the Boot.ini of the XP installation to give you the option of selecting the Win 7 installation. This is a typical XP Boot.ini file. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect Try adding the following line underneath the original Boot.ini ...... multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows 7" /fastdetect To edit the Boot.ini file ..... 1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. 2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings 3. Under Startup and Recovery - click EDIT Don't forget to save the changes. The timeout=30 causes the system to wait 30 secs before loading You can change this if you want. DO NOT alter any other part of the Boot.ini file.

I assume that you are referring to the 2 6 pin PCIe power connectors needed for this card ? You need to sort out the power issues and this may resolve itself.

This is handy to have as a backup and it will tell us if you can connect wirelessly or not. You certainly had a connection earlier with that first log that you posted :)

Hi, If Safe Mode is working - this could be a driver problem - however I am a bit confused. ?? You say .... This seems to contradict. A black screen or it boots up but nothing works. ?? 1. Please confirm the precise details of the problem you are having. 2. Have you installed any new hardware or software just before the start of your problem ?

Hi These ICs do not die very often - it is unlikely that it will need replacing I am assuming that this is the CPU cooling fan ? If you have taken the heatsink and fan off the CPU it is not a simple case of putting it back. There is thermal paste between the heatsink and the surface of the Processor. This is there to ensure that the contact between the two surfaces is good enough to dissipate the heat generated. If it isn't it will overheat very quickly and shut down. I suggest that you take the heatsink off again and clean both surfaces with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) from a pharmacy. Then get some thermal paste ( Arctic Silver or similar ) and you need a very thin layer spread evenly over one surface. Replace the heatsink and fan.

Can you give us some more details as to what the exact problem is please ?

Hi Are you sure the clicking is coming from the PSU ? Clicking often comes from a dying hard drive. Just to confirm ..... Take the power connection off the hard drive then try to switch on again. If the clicking is coming from the PSU you can assume that it needs replacing. This is a relatively easy job.

With the first log you definitely had a wireless connection. With the second log ( your last post ) there definitely isn't a wireless connection. The connection seems to be intermittent. I wonder if the wireless adapter is at fault. Try this: With the ethernet cable connected to the router from the computer Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters Right click on the wireless adapter WiFi Link 5100 > Update drivers Let Windows do this automatically. Let me know the results ( if it updated or if the present drivers were OK ) Do you have / can you borrow / buy .................a USB wireless adapter ? click here This would isolate the internal wireless adapter from the problem and if this connects we can assume that the internal adapter is at fault.

Thanks for confirming your OS :) I suggest that you try burning some photos and see if the software works with this format. (photos are usually .jpg ) Can you try this please? If it works with this - then it is the file type it cannot cope with. Sorry - I missed this. Open MSE[click on the green icon bottom right of screen ] > click Settings and under real-time protection > uncheck the option Turn ON real-time protection If you try this - don't forget to turn real time protection on again :)

You have your OS listed as "Starter" Is this Vista starter ? If so - where did you get it ? ( It was introduced to developing countries as a cheaper option ...........with limitations ) Your IP Address puts you in Germany. Are the disks you are using exactly the same ? How long between trying to burn the disks ? What is the file extension of the videos you are trying to burn ? ( after the file name .mpg / .wmv )

Download the orange Network Test from my signature below to a memory stick. If it ends up in your downloads folder it will be there as "ipcon". Transfer the file to the problem computer and run it. ( you may get warning re. the software - accept these ) Copy the log produced and post it here please - it may shed some light on the problem.

Not good. How long has it been "closing" for? This process should only take a minute or so. Which Anti Virus are you using? Can you dis-able it when trying to burn a CD and see if that makes a difference.

Hi You can get this error if you try registering the .dll without admin permissions. Try the following : Start .....type in .....cmd.......right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left > now click on "Run as Administrator" Try the regsvr32 wuaueng.dll..... etc​from here.

You won't be able to delete it - it is an integral part of the Windows Operating System. Run chkdsk /f then sun sfc /scannow See if this makes a difference.

Try downloading this free software and see if you can burn the disk with it. click here Make sure it is BurnAware that you are downloading :)

WinDFT would have been a more intensive test than chkdsk. I wouldn't trust the drive :(

Hi, You may find this useful: click here If you copy the CBS log to the desktop - can you open it from there ? This is a cause for concern. It sounds as if something is corrupting. Let's check the condition of the hard drive ....... Start > type in ....cmd ......right click on the cmd.exe ......click on Run as Administrator At the prompt type ... chkdsk /f .......ENTER [ space before /f ] You will need to re-boot for the scan to be initiated.

Yes - it would at least confirm that the drive is OK. Hitachi have their own software ...WinDFT ( Drive Fitness Test ) click here It will not do any harm - you can use WinDFT on it too even if the drive is not Hitachi. We actually enjoy it :) Let us know the results of running DFT.

Hi and welcome to ExTS It would seem so - we can investigate that after you try the following: Take the RAM modules out and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser. Put just one back ( leave the other out ) Try the system now. If no change put the other one back in and take the first out. Try again. The system ( XP ) will run well with 1GB RAM.

Hi chkdsk looks OK To install Win 7 make sure that the CDROM is first in the boot order in the BIOS ( easy to do ) Switch in and it will be either DEL or F2 key ( normally ). You will see something like ....Press DEL to enter Setup in the bottom left of screen. You have a very short time to hit the right key. Alternatively tap DEL after switching on ( about once per second ) If this fails .....F2 Keep an eye open for the prompt about entering Setup to confirm you have the correct key. Once in the BIOS move around with the arrow keys. Look for Boot Sequence / Boot Options or similar ( lots of different BIOS options ) If you need to move the CDROM up the order click on it and it is usually the up-arrow or + key ( It will say on screen ) Once you have it as the first boot device Save and Exit ( usually F10 ......again it will say on screen ) ========== Regarding Partitions: If you find it confusing during installation just use one big partition. It is easy to alter afterwards to 2 or 3 partitions from within Windows.

Hi again It probably explains why you are not connected - but it doesn't tell us why. :) With the machine connected to the router via cable: Run the blue Wireless Test in my signature at the bottom. (Hoping it will work this way around :) ) You may get a message saying that this is not certified or similar ..... allow it. It will take a little time to complete. Copy the results ( there will be a lot ) and post them here please.

I assume that the wireless is not switched off ? There is often a switch on the front or just under the screen.
