  1. Just butting in here ( as Blues is not on line ) :) Start > type in ....cmd .....> right click the cmd.exe that shows top left > Run as administrator This is the elevated command prompt.
  2. You are under no obligation. Sounds as if you have decided - anyway.
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS Posting this twice will not get it answered any quicker - I have deleted the other. I assume that you are using a router ? If so - try switching it off > leave for 30 seconds > switch on again. Which router ( make and model ) are you using ?
  4. If you are happy to use the ethernet cable this will not be a problem.
  5. Hi, I have not come across this before. Try this: During the afternoon when the problem exists right click on the time ( bottom right of screen ) and adjust the time to show 8-00 am or a time that you know has worked in the past. If it works now you probably have malware on your system and we will need to take a look at that.
  6. Hi Anna and welcome to ExTS :) I hope we can help.
  7. Let us know how you get on :)
  8. Let me know how it goes. There is rarely a problem using cable. The problems arise with the wireless connection - hence my previous question.
  9. Hi I don't think so. You have 512 MB installed and Win98 will run on 16MB Take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/134399 I will ask Bluesplayer to take another look here as he is better with Win98 than I am :)
  10. Hi If you used this - there is a spelling mistake "realease" should be release. ================ If this is the case then it looks as if i has sorted itself out :) Can you connect both wirelessly and using the cable ? If the cable connection is dropping out then there can only be a couple of explanations: 1. The Network Interface Card in the pc is having problems. 2. The router is the problem It could possibly be the cable - but this is unlikely to be intermittent.
  11. No not really :) Try this: Go back to the command prompt ( Start > cmd etc ) Type in .... ipconfig /release then type .... ipconfig /renew (There is a space after ipconfig ) Try connecting by cable again. ================= You have 2 computers. Does the old one give you any problem at all with the router ? Are you still having problems with the new one ?
  12. Hi and welcome to ExTS I am afraid that our policy doesn't allow us to assist with by-passing passwords. We have no way of checking that the computer is yours ( no implication here at all ). If the O/S is Linux this is available free.
  13. Please be aware that if the m/board is not exactly the same you will invariably have to re-install the operating system onto the hard drive. This will result in loss of data. If it comes to this we can advise on removing data from the drive first if necessary.
  14. Hi Try this: (It works for Win2K and should for Win98) Click Start, click Run, type System.ini, and then click OK. Find the EmmExclude or NoEMSDriver statement in the [386enh] section, and then type a semicolon ( ; at the beginning of the line. Save the file and then restart your computer. If this doesn't work it is a simple task to take the ; out again :)
  15. I assume that the hub is listed in Device Manager and there are no yellow exclamation marks ? ============ Start > type in ......cmd .......Right click on cmd.exe that shows top left > Run as Administrator At the prompt type in ... ping 127.0.0.1 (there is a space after ping ) This checks the communication to the adapter in your machine. You should get 4 packets sent and 4 received - no losses. Let me know the results. ============ Do you have another machine that you can use with this router and is it OK ?
  16. Now I understand. Whilst I can see your need to have access to your pc 24/7 I can also understand why your parents have imposed a few rules. I had rules in our household too when my lads were at home and I would have been more than angry with anybody who helped them break them. It is not our intention to come between parents and their offspring. We are not prepared to assist any further - sorry.
  17. This thread is also linked with this one: http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/13610-Bt-home-hub-woes?p=88158#post88158 Suggest we continue with the Home Hub thread.
  18. Should this read "Extended memory ..... ? How much RAM do you have in this machine ?
  19. Hi, The connection is OK if you use a wired connection - is this correct ? ============ Is there an icon bottom right of screen that looks like a monitor ? If so - if you right click on this > Connect to a network Does your network show here? Do any networks show - (neighbours ) ? =============== Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters. What is listed ? Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
  20. ??? The driver should be it. What error message are you getting ?
  21. Yes - that's the "card" ( it is actually a chip ) Drivers are here: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel852gm/sb/cs-009059.htm Win98 SE is supported so you are in luck :) EDIT: Just realised that you are working with Win 95 !!
  22. If you use a router - how do you connect to it ? If by cable then you need to look inside for the make and model number of the Network Card.
  23. Good to hear that the "Fix" worked for you - even though it is a strange set-up :)
  24. Hi and welcome to ExTS If you are still getting "no POST" then I suggest that you follow the tutorial I wrote on the subject. see here: http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=246 No POST usually indicates a PSU or m/board problem.
  25. On early machines they came with an inbuilt modem - this was for connecting via "Dialup". If you use a router then you should have an Ethernet Card http://www.topbits.com/wp-content/uploads/images/change-mac-address.JPEG or a Wireless Adapter How do you connect to the internet from this machine ? EDIT.... Sorry J-B I didn't see you on-line :)
