  1. If you can start up in Safe Mode try running MBAM from here.
  2. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) As J-B says - remove external drive and give this a try. Also ..... I have seen this with a problem PSU.
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS We are not gamers here - so advice may well be limited. I have just checked the system specs for Max Payne 3 here: click here Your specs get max rating of 10 - so no problem there. Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc ..........ENTER Are there any yellow exclamation marks if you click the + next to the devices ? What is listed against Display Adapters ?
  4. Hi and welcome to ExTS You are right to be sceptical - they often do more harm than good. Have you tried the Windows Update Readiness Tool ? This may solve your updating problem. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-the-System-Update-Readiness-Tool Please ensure that you download the correct version - there are 32bit and 64bit options.
  5. What speed are you getting from your connection? http://www.zdnet.co.uk/broadband-speedtest/ Take an average of 3 checks
  6. Hi Nuucci and welcome to ExTS I will leave your post here to see if FLR responds. If not - please start a new thread and put a link to this one for reference :)
  7. Just to add my two pennyworth as well .............. I have been involved with athletics in the UK for many years. I was ( am ) an international standard timekeeper. I have not applied for ANY tickets to watch ANY event ! Athletics in the UK, along with most other sports, is run by volunteers who give their time and expertise freely. In most cases we do not even get expenses. I have 4 watches - various tops - blazer - whites etc etc all bought at full cost ............no subsidy! If I applied for tickets there would be no subsidy here too !!! A couple of years ago UKA decided in their wisdom that ALL Level 5 ( highest level ) officials needed re-training. They provided one venue 55 miles from my home and one free course ............that I couldn't make. Afterwards they wanted to charge me to attend the same course - which I had to get to at my own expence. This course was 96 miles from my home !! After numerous emails UKA would not back down. I suggested that they take my course fee out of their vast hospitality budget. This received no response. If it wasn't for me - and hundreds of others like me - the olympics would not be taking place at all. I refuse to have anything to do with UKA these days and will watch the events on TV - for free !!
  8. Hi This is strange behaviour. I didn't get this message at all - I will ask the other admins if they received it. I am not sure why "ipconfig" should be running in Task Manager. I have checked mine on a couple of occasions and I do not see it at all. I wonder if this is malware - along with the rogue "banned" message ??? Please d/l MBAM from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html Install and run it. It will produce a log when finished - please copy this and post it with your reply.
  9. That's good to hear John - hopefully you have deleted / removed anything that you felt necessary and your daughter now has a "new" machine that she can use :)
  10. Yes - that is a smiley. Which browser are you using ? ( IE / Firefox / other )
  11. I have just checked the banned IP Addresses and the IP Address used in your first post is not on that list. I find it strange that you should not be able to access the site without re-setting your router. You certainly have not been banned as this would show where FPCH Member is showing under your forum name. What message did you get when trying to log in ? Keep us informed of your progress :)
  12. Hi Until Starbuck gets back to you please do not use the internet as you have no AntiVirus :)
  13. I am sorry - I don't know enough about this to comment. You are right regarding the cost and availability of a replacement HDD. I tend to agree with you - it does, however, depend on your finances.
  14. Hi and welcome to ExTS If you post in the appropriate forum - in a bit more detail - we may be able to help :)
  15. Hi, When the HDD ( probably SMART technology ) finds errors on the drive it marks that sector as "reallocated" and transfers data from that sector to another section of the drive. You may be given an indication as to how many sectors have been identified and moved. The drive can normally still operate - but the more bad sectors there are the more difficult it gets and the system gets slower and slower. If you are getting this message then the drive is likely to fail completely at some point in the not too distant future. If chkdsk is failing to complete it looks as if the drive is well on the way to failing. I suggest before you go any further - that you get any data off the drive that you need.
  16. Just to confirm: Start > right click on Computer > Properties This will tell you how much RAM you have. This is usually used as a last resort. Do you have the original installation CD ( not recovery disks ) ? I will leave Starbuck to advise re. the MBAM log :)
  17. Hi Leanne and welcome to ExTS :) Nev is probably the best one to advise on sound issues - but until he picks this up please answer / try the following: 1. Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc ............ENTER Click the + next to Sound, Video, Game Controllers What is listed ? Are there any yellow exclamation marks ? 2. If you know how to access the RAM ( under a panel in the base of the laptop ) ...... Take the modules out > clean the connections with a pencil eraser > put just one back. Switch on and boot up. Run the machine and test the sound. If you are still getting the same problems - swap the RAM modules over and run on the other one.
  18. Hi, Try running chkdsk as follows: chkdsk /f This should fix any errors - if it is possible.
  19. Hi If you are not too happy disconnecting the second hard drive then leave it as it is. Raid drivers should be OK as this is a repair installation not a complete format / reinstall. You could try chkdsk from a command prompt before you attempt the repair install. Check which drive letter is allocated to each drive from My Computer. One will be C:\ Then Start > Run ....type in .....cmd .....ENTER At the prompt type in ...... chkdsk /r ( there is a space after chkdsk ) This will check C:\ drive for errors. If you want to check the other drive type chkdsk X:/r ( space after chkdsk and X = the drive letter of your second drive ) You may be prompted to restart before it will run chkdsk.
  20. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.witney/browniepoints/brownie_points.gif Well done Jim :)
  21. You can try a repair install of the OS See here: http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=23 If you have 2 drives installed I suggest that you disconnect the second whilst doing the repair install.
  22. Do you have a full XP installation disk ? If so - we can try a repair install which will keep your installed software / files / photos etc intact ( or should do ! )
  23. Keep us informed :)
  24. Your last post was yesterday afternoon !! I posted Monday - you answered Tuesday. We do have other things to do other than sit by a computer watching the screen. I have merged the two threads - for obvious reasons.
  25. Hi and welcome to ExTS Unless I am missing something - I see no red lines / dots on your screenshot - unless you are referring to the vertical and horizontal effect that looks like canvas ? You could have disturbed the Video Card ( if this machine has one ) - I doubt if it is the CPU. There are a couple of useful videos here:
