  1. It is a simple matter to clean the pin. It all depends what caused the short in the first place. If it was bare wires from the ribbon cable then a new cable should fix it.
  2. Why do we have 2 threads on the same/similar subject ?
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS I don't have a Win2K machine so advice may not be quite correct - let me know if things are different. Start > Run ....type in ....cmd ......ENTER At the prompt type in ping 127.0.0.1 ( space after ping ) You should get 4 packets sent and 4 received - no losses. Do you ? I assume that you are using a wired connection. Have you tried a different ethernet cable ?
  4. Thanks for the feedback - good to hear that you solved your problem :)
  5. Hi Thanks for the extra pics - I can see your problem now. There has been a short on pin4 ( or in that area ) The cable is a 12-way ribbon cable part number E118077 I found this that may be of interest: click here This is 150mm long - you need to measure yours to check. 200mm long click here I did find a US location for 250mm long. It doesn't say Toshiba - but I guess that the cables used are fairly standard.
  6. Hi Have you sent the error report to Microsoft ? They will often reply with a suggested fix. The problem seems to be linked with MSVCR90.dll Try Start > Run ....type in .....regsvr32 msvcr90.dll ............ENTER ( there is a space after 32 ) This will re-register the dll.
  7. The two molex connections fit onto 2 spare female Molex connections from the Power Supply Unit. There is no guarantee that this will fix the problem - but for a few pounds it is worth a try if you don't have a spare PSU.
  8. I will need a closeup of it please. Also - what does the other end of the cable connect to.
  9. Sorry - I read your original post as 4 pin click here
  10. I suspect that this may be a PSU problem. You will have a spare molex connection. I suggest that you get a molex to 4 pin adapter click here And give this a try. Or If you have a spare 4 pin connection from the PSU try this Or If you have a spare PSU give this a try.
  11. The one on the right is a ribbon cable. Does the connector look like this ? http://www.mcmelectronics.com/content/productimages/s4/27-2745.jpg If it does - and you have spare cable - you can just replace the connector. You simply lie it across the cable and compress the end to make the connections. You would need to count the number of connections needed to make sure you got the right replacement.
  12. Hi You will only hear POST beeps if you have an internal speaker connected to the motherboard. If you DO have a speaker - and you are getting no beeps at this point then your system is not getting past the Power On Self Test process and there is a problem with either the m/board or PSU. If no internal speaker then we continue as follows: If your system is stable and not crashing / restarting then add just one component / connection at a time and switch on after each addition. If the system remains stable the add one more - testing after each addition. If the system crashes - remove the last added component/connection and try again. If it remains stable you have found the cause of your problem.
  13. Thanks BeeCeeBee - this is related to the other thread :) Bradleyg11 Please continue with the other thread.
  14. Hi, Nev is probably best able to help with this but take a look here first: Does this help?
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS This sounds like a motherboard or PSU problem. Take a look here and follow the steps: http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=246 I am assuming that you get no POST beeps. If you do - let me know the sequence ( e.g. 1 long 2 short ........)
  16. Is it possible to get a close-up of the damaged end and m/board connection ? I was assuming that the lose connection was at the switch. Your link was just to a general Google search. Does the connector look like this? http://www.diymybmw.com/e46/wp-content/uploads/HLIC/d183034bff17f8fc574bd360b54f1435.jpg
  17. It could.... To check it do the following: Start > type in ......cmd ......right click on cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the prompt type in ......chkdsk /f /r .......(there is a space after chkdsk and one after /f )You will probably get a prompt that tells you it will run at next re-boot. Re-boot the machine. chkdsk /f /r will find any errors and attempt to repair them.
  18. There are only 2 or 3 things that come to mind that may possibly cause that: 1 Driver software 2 The Video Card itself 3 RAM Try updating the drivers from here: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-5000/hd-5870/pages/ati-radeon-hd-5870-overview.aspx#4
  19. Sorry - the photo isn't detailed enough for me to make out the connections. Did you actually disconnect the wires from the switch itself ?
  20. Is your problem ONLY linked to web-based activity ?
  21. You are welcome - let us know how you get on :)
  22. To upload a pic Click on Reply to Thread > Go Advanced > Manage attachments > Add Files > Select Files
  23. Nice one J-B I will watch out for you on the M6 :)
  24. This is probably the cause of your problem. Can you use aluminium foil to tighten the connections or squash the female connection a bit with a pair of long-nose pliers? ( I am not totally sure what your specific connections look like )
  25. A voltmeter would tell you if the switch was working properly or not. I found this on Amazon for £2-89 and free postage click here
